  1. I'd have to say it's between cold stone and ben & Jerrys... thats pretty true though, this isnt a true 'wholemade' ice cream shop in the area... at least not that i've found
  2. Maybe a better program put together with ConEd and the Fire Service... not really sure how/what can be done. I personally never understood why coned hasn't outfitted some of its trucks with red lights and such for emergency situations... they just have the "emergency Unit"
  3. People just think they're going to grow a 3rd head by having a radio antenna near their houses... they don't understand the implications and risk of not having this... what would you really expect though - something else for them to bicker about when radio communications fail and there's a fire at their house... then they might wake up. (First they'll bicker that the county didn't do enough to prevent an incident though)
  4. Yeah, I think the community is up in arms over putting it on the water tower so they need to look somewhere else
  5. MCI

Trying not to sound cocky... I've noticed a lot of people talking about "MCI"'s involving multiple patients (no this isnt directed to one person either) - I feel like there's a misconception of what the term means... MCI = Mass CASULTY incident.. people should not be declaring an MCI or using the term if everyone's alive... multiple patients would be the correct term. Just my rant, not meant to offend anyone.
  6. MCI

    gotcha. my bad
  7. Wow, interesting. I agree with everything you say. Why is the barracks unmanned? I don't really know much about the area... was it previously? Is it a substation, or a small PSAP? There's no contractual agreement to provide X resources to the town at any given time? Seems like the town should have at least done that then they disbanded their on PD
  8. MCI

hmm, ok... I guess I've just always considered it by its literal sense becuase what happens when you have an incident when there ARE mutliple casulities... when you say "MCI" over the radio, how can you distinguish 4 DOA's vs 4 Injured? shrug
  9. Almafi's is a great restaurant (across the street from the FD/PD in the little strip mall thing) there's also a good japaneese restaurant across 9A next to the A&P (or whatever supermarket it is now)
  10. I can't find a real list of the protocols online anywhere - so tomorrow afternoon I'll go downstairs and get my binder of the printed policies and let you know
  11. Actually it shouldn't be so they "don't touch" - one pad should be on the child's chest while the other should be on the child's back (front + back)... which would probably happen anyway with adult pads even if you didn't try to do that since the pads are so oversized for the child.
  12. Were they really locked (key access)? I know most boxes are "locked" and if opened set off an alarm of some sort
  13. I'd have to say Katonah is the best atmosphere... the streets are just LINED with people (though not as much this year for some reason) and Kisco is 2nd best, best party after in my book.
  14. what did everyone think? I liked that there was actually fire footage in it... not sure about the commentary though
  15. Does the family have a copy of the living will to prove that statment? They provide the DNR according to the senario which I'm guessing is proven legit... but the pt isnt in arrest which a DNR would come into play for... I was always taught to lean on the side of caution and treat if you don't know - just as if you can't confirm a DNR then you start the compressions. Just as said: DNR != Do not treat. I'd go ahead and start treatment as with any other pt.
  16. KFC and chinese restaurants? wait everyone... we're talking about CHICKENS, not rats!
  17. just saw it again with someone who missed it - what's the signifigance of sully saying "Crap" as the very last thing... just random?
  18. I have to say, that episode probably had the most action ive seen all season - it was nice to see teh FD get back into it. Overall, I thought it tied up a lot of things... I liked the very very end with sully was telling "where is everyone now" - before that though it started getting a little like "wah ill miss you" but... a lot of it was well thoguhtout - like them taking down the "welcome to camlot" thing as sully walked out... oooh yeah, symbolic stuff.
  19. ebay has some good deals. I got my classic for just over $70 bucks with shipping, brand new in the box.
  20. A&E was playing reruns everyday... not sure if they still are - but there's not going to be any more new shows.
  21. Third Watch was definitely one of my all time favorite TV shows. I personally feel the show took a downturn once it went away from FDNY Fire "Action" and went more towards Police/EMS - I guess trying to go along with the rest of the TV "era/success" of police shows. Still stuck through watching it and enjoyed it all. I kinda feel like this is another one of those attitude things in which people have no care for emergency services - therefore don't watch the show as much... kind of the like "wow the show spoke about 9/11 and we got to learn about FDNY/NYPD" and now it's "well its a few years later... who cares about EMS, I want my law and order!" I personally am very sad to see the show go - though I feel like the past few episodes the show was falling apart anyway (and those episodes were made prior to the cancellation)
  22. Simple... in Onondaga County... (mainly ems, but sometimes fire too) Going lights/sirens to a call: "XXX is RESPONDING *repeat address*" Going to a call non-emergency (low priority for EMS/10-20 for fire): "XXX IS EN ROUTE *REPEAT ADDRESS*" en route - you're moving somewhere responding... utilizing an emergency response. KISS. it works here.
  23. I personally have never heard 10-8, 10-17... but I guess someone could say the logic behind someone saying it would be thinking "we're responding... and you can reach us by radio" - I understand that... needed? no... but you can lead a horse to water, but can't make it drink
  24. The playboy station?? I've never really pictured myself as the type to drive to work listening to p***? ? ?
  25. Not just NYC EMD... the future versions of all EMD cards are going to only recommend compressions - I believe mainly for the reason that it's easier for phone insturctions and allows the process to move faster.
