  1. I think the practicality of this idea depends on the district. In my town, all of the police cars carry AEDs and in most cases the PD would arrive on the scene of an arrest before a POV could. I imagine that this is similar in Long Island. I can see this as a much more practical solution in upstate NY where a police car or ambulance could be over 20 minutes away.
  2. I took the exam at Laguardia CC in March. Just so you know what to expect: the test was given in an auditorium with little fold out desks. It was a little uncomfortable but it wasn't too bad. The on site grading is a bit slow as theres only one scantron reader and the amount of time the grading takes will depend on how many people are in front of you. Let me know if you have any questions.
  3. It doesn't look like this bill was ever passed.
  4. Why was he written a ticket?
  5. I believe ~$400 is the maximum amount Medicare will reimburse for a ambulance transport, so that is what most agencies charge as a flat rate.
  6. $1 fares from NY to DC as well through Bolt Bus. I was actually able to find a few $1 fairs. Also pretty neat: they offer free wifi on the bus.
  7. I'm doing on site scoring for my EMT-B exam tomorrow at Laguardia Community College in Queeens and I am trying to figure out what time to get down there. Could anyone advise me of how difficult it will be for me to find a parking spot?
  8. In my corps, the fire department is not automatically dispatched to medical calls on the highway. Although I am sure they would be glad to assist if requested, we would only be able to request the FD once in the ambulance. Thus, we would have to significantly delay our response, which makes this unfeasible.
  9. Does anyone have any tips for my EMT practical exam tomorrow?
  10. Passed without missing a single point! Now I just have to get through the written exam.
  11. Is 60 control their primary dispatch now? I know I've heard both 60 control and the local PD dispatch them over the years, but PD has always been primary.
  12. A study in 1978 found overall underage drinking as well as bindge drinking to have decreased after the increased drinking age. I know this study was done a long time ago, but I would think that not much has changed.
  13. When people talk about lowering the drinking age, I think it is important to keep in mind that raising the drinking age to 21 effectively reduced the rate of drunk driving fatalities by 13%. Thats a lot of lives.
  14. Verizon was actually responding to Sprint's announcement of an unlimited plan. Sprint's plan will be $119/month. Source: http://consumerist.com/357594/sprint-testi...ted-minute-plan
  15. On the topic of reciprocity, if one wanted to maintain certification in 2 states, would they be allowed to just request reciprocity every 3 years?
  16. You had to pay and you signed up in class? I called the 800 number on the state site to sign up and they didn't say anything about a fee. I also wasn't offered anything in class to sign up.
  17. Box 78 please.
  18. Can individuals attend without their agency?
  19. In my EMT class tonight, the instructor received the results from the December test.
  20. This is why I am doing on site scoring come March.
  21. Do they hire per diem EMTs?
  22. How exactly does an EMT-I compare to a medic?
  23. This question has been posted before, but it seems like people aren't too quick to post their salaries. I know an EMT-B in Westchester who makes $12/hr. I found FDNY EMS salaries on their website: Starting EMT-B salary: $27,295 Starting medic salary: $37,346 The salary seems to increase a bit each year of employment.
