  1. Ted Kennedy for better or worse is quite a controversial public figure...I can imagine there are quite a few posters on this board who offer no condolences to this man or his family. I am usually against locking threads but I can see this getting out of hand.
  2. Stay in Texas we have enough of you hillbilly buffs moving here already...j/k. Seriously are you sure you want to trade hot Texas summers for freezing New York winters???? If you do decide to make the move be a union man and go FDNY EMS, you will definitely be full time and the benefits are good. apply here http://www.nyc.gov/html/fdny/html/communit...ew_042607.shtml
  3. The entrance to go north on the TSP from 117 and the exit ramp are located right next to each other at the same stoplight. I could see how someone who is uncomfortable driving and not familiar with the area could make this mistake of going south in the northbound lane. The article stated the driver of the southbound minivan was from Long Island so this could easily be the case. I cant figure out how to add the Google Maps link to this post but if you type in "883 Bedford Road Pleasantville NY" you can see both the aerial and street view of what I am talking about.
  4. You guys can keep your cardboard New England pizza, I dont care what some History Channel documentary tells me is the "Worlds Best". Bronx pizza will always rule.
  5. Listen to CPAGE...you dont know sh*t. I went through it back in 05 and since have become a FF. Academically speaking at least for me the TOPS program was harder than Proby School. Good luck my friend and study hard for those scenarios!
  6. Hey JFlynn you forgot about racing! Cause you know we do this all the time at fires, you know jump from a hot rod at 50 mph with only a hockey helmet and kneepads while simultaneously throwing a ladder and climbing it!
  7. I think its because the chiefs and commisioners dont want to give up their fifedoms and $60K tahoes. I have three firehouses from 3 different vfd's within walking distance of my home. Each of these dept.'s does 300-400 runs a year.
  8. From what I understand they are a buff group comprising of former members from the now defunct(inactive?) Aviation Volunteer Fire Dept. in the Bronx. I dont know much about them but what little I hear is not good, maybe some Bronx FDNY brothers could fill us in. Please refrain from thinking these clowns have anything to do with FDNY or the New York Fire Patrol.
  9. No wonder my last 24 was unusually busy, with alot of full assignments on BS boxes. Guys were wondering what was going on. Hey JBE is there anything different in the way the text on the tickets are worded. It seems alot of guys were having difficulties reading the tickets, I even overheard someone ask what a UCT was? I think it would have been nice for the city to let the guys in the field know about his. I never heard anything about this program until now.
  10. I am not so worried about it being a japanese make as it is being a "hybrid". It seems like another part of the liberal agenda to emasculate the police specifically the NYPD. Dont get me wrong I am somewhat a supporter of the green movement and I think civilians should purchase alternative fuel vehicles if it suits there needs, but I feel law enforcement should be outfitted in more intimidating big block vehicles like crown vics, chargers and SUV's. They are the NYPD not the hug police...a 4 cylinder hybrid rolling up just doesnt have the same deterrent effect on the mopes hanging out on the corner as an 8 cylinder Charger. The 4'8" female and the guy with dreadlocks who can barely speak English getting out of the RMP are also part of the problem, but thats a discussion for another day.
  11. Why have chargers as RMP's when you could have these... http://www.nypost.com/seven/02152009/news/...reen_155273.htm ??? What happened to this country?
  12. FDR park is beautiful on a weekday, but on summer weekends it becomes an extension of the South Bronx. Croton Point also gets crowded on weekends. Ridge Park in Greenburgh might be a good spot, my Dad had a lot of company picnics there growing up, was always a good time.
  13. Suffolk County, Im guessing the VFA has/had numerous radio and print ads over the past year or so advertising for volunteers. I have seen them on the sides of bus shelters and busses and also on LIRR platforms. I have also seen a semi professional ad on TV for the Brentwood LI FD.
  14. No, because 2 of the officers killed in Oakland were SWAT/ESU anyway, the officers in Pittsburgh were responding to a simple domestic...no need to send ESU to that and Binghamtom is to small/poor of a city to have 24/7 SWAT/ESU.
  15. Just Google Map street view Mount Vernon and you will understand. You're not in Vails Gate anymore partner...Yee Haw!!!
  16. Not much of a fan of overseas rigs, at least aesthetically, but that thing is a beast! I love it!
  17. Some great photos, must have been a wild time to be riding the backstep!
  18. Cougars on the other hand are quite common in the 914!
  19. A guy my Dad worked with struck and killed a Bobcat on the TSP in Yorktown a few years back. It was a pretty big deal with the DEC at the time. It seems they are more or less extinct in the Westchester area, but are quite common upstate and in other parts of the country.
  20. While I love DKM, been a fan since 1999 and been in the pit at many shows, I dont think you are gonna hear their music on any mainstream radio station anytime soon. While they have managed to get their music into two major movies(Fever Pitch/Departed) for the average person out there they are just a gimmicky St Paddys Day bar band. I for one think they have gone way overboad on their last few albums with the bagpipes and tin whistles. They were alot better back in the "Do or Die" and The Gangs All Here" when they had that unpolished Hardcore sound. The few celtic influenced tracks just gave those albums a refreshing feel from everything else out there. Now they just over do it with the wannabe Irish folk band stuff.

  22. Not necessarily, I remember about 10-15 years ago a small meteorite struck a parked car in some guys driveway in Peekskill. I was young but I remember it being fairly notable strange but true news at the time.
  23. I say let it burn, looks like a 3rd world shack. Was this pic even taken in America? Maybe the Mississippi Delta or New Orleans? In a lifesaving op, I'd say quick horizontal ventilation then charge in with the 1.75"!
