  1. Seth;

Go with the Edge if you can find one.

    I have a 2011 Ford Edge and I get 9.2 l/100kms which equal 25.6 mpgs in Canada.

I have no problem going from my home to Halifax and back a distance of 610 kms on one tank of ful and have some left over.

The only thing it doesn't have is the nav system, roof rack and leather.

  2. Other than in the arctic circle or in antarctica, why choose an interior pump panel? Rosenbauer offers this costomized interior wrap-a-round pump panel on the T-Rex chassis...

I see some serious issues with this setup. I've seen plenty or top-mount enclosed pump panels but non like this. What are your thoughts on interior pump panels?

If you live in Canada or the Midwest in the winter, it would keep the operator dry and warm to do his work. You don't have to live in the Arctic or Antarctic to have snow and cold weather.

  3. Why do they use garbage trucks to plow streets when they have snow plows? Why an aerial? Depends on the agency. For many its because no other units available. If you really think that fuel costs are why they are shutting down stations and cutting staffing...your sadly mistaken. Runs save jobs in most cases. Not even that is working right now. Sure..."they" can use a SUV or half ton utility...but then what? Depending on staffing your dropping one of 2 guys and again to some that means no staffing at the aerial.

You buy apparatus to respond to calls....its an investment and again...is the person with chest pain or SOB more or less as important then the AFA, outside gas..blah blah blah. To me...yes it is. They are paying for SERVICE.

What business are we in anyway? I thought it was public safety.

I agree with you to a certain extent. But what if that pumper or TDA was on a medical run and then a call for a high rise came in. How would you handle it and what would the insurance company say.

  4. I see alot of departments are sending Aerial Platforms & TDA's on medical calls. What is the justification there. In the sense that a lot of fire departments in the US of A are closing fire houses and staions because of budget cuts.

Can they not use a half ton utility or Explorer type vehicle for those type calls to save on fuel to stop the closing of buildings and cutting staff.

  5. "But I got GPS on my phone, I thought you people could see where I am!"

That is only as good as the satellite picking up the signal. That also only works if you have a CAD/CAM system which I don't have. I have been on both ends of the phone. I work in a dispatcher center that looks after 25 fire departments and the mile markers come in handy on the highways especially when someone does not know the area or sees a good landmark.

  7. Time call is dispatched via 911 center.

Time first radio unit signs off at scene - could be an engine, ambulance or senior officer.

    Time IC terminates command.

It all depends on the situation.

    1. If it is a DNR call - it is from the time dispatch gets the call from 911.

    2. It is a DUI MVA it is from the time 911 gets the call.

    3. Regular fires & alarms from the time first unit radios dispatch and leaves the station.

  8. Or how about just being happy with the fact that your hockey teams are better than ours???:P

Thats why making a membership appreciation care package would work out OK, give us gift cards or EMTBravo shirts. The gift cards nowadays can be used online which is good for those of you with better hockey teams and better bacon... B)

    Stay Safe.

  9. Wow - that's really got to suck

How do you expect them to go to work and not eat?? If you work an 8 hour day like you propose, the crew from 8 AM - 4 PM is entitlied to lunch around noon. The same for the 4 PM - midnight crew is entitled to supper around 6 PM.Lets see you go 8 hours without eating. Also that would be 8-4 Monday to Friday 4-12 Monday to Friday 12 - 8 Monday to Friday which gives you 3 platoons of workers from 8 AM Monday to 8 AM Saturday morning. Now who is going to fill in from 8 AM Saturday to 8 AM Monday over that 48 hour period. without staggering the shifts.

Are you going to have parttime crews to cover the weekends. That would be two platoons working 12 hour shifts. That would be 8 AM - 8 PM & 8 PM to 8AM. Now the day crew would be working 12 hours without eating but should be entitled to lunch & supper according to regular Department of Labour rules.

  10. Horrible senerio you would be faced with. I wonder if the high winds and the large amount of rain would supress the fire enough that it would not spread or would it be the reverse and the wind helps it jump. With those high winds I would think you would be limited in some of your resourses. I would think that you would not put a stick or a bucket up in the exteme high winds. Also, would your water stream be hampered by the wind and a good percentage if it just blow away? Another thing I think of if it's an interior attack would the wind put the crews at a greater danger in that a window could blow out at any moment thus possibly pushing the fire back on them? It would be an incredibly hard job and the IC would need to think outside the box.

I have a good question. What is the insurance companies take on this if you don't respond??

  11. Thank you! Yea, I totally agree… it is a great place to vacation. Yes, EFD finished the first part of their master plan for the new museum. It looks great! And thank you, I had a great time!

Well actually no, I spent most of my time down island on the beaches. However I did spend a chunk of time up island. And no, I didn’t run into Zeke. I was only in Oak Bluffs one day and when I drove by the station, all of the apparatus were in their bays. The best photos I could get are below. The Bronto was high on my list but I couldn’t find it. It was suppose to be located at the DPW facility in a storage garage but I did not see it.
