Hey heres a novel idea!! look into consolidiating the School districts in Greenburgh--ohh wait that aint going to happen either. i can see the bus now headed down Central Ave to Edgemont H.S. I dont think so.
Another approach-- stop spending money for fire protection to unincorported Greenburgh. If Greenburgh police protect it, Greenburgh fire should protect it. hmm lets see how fast the towns and villages are willing to give up that money.
Although I do agree on some aspects, there might be room for central dispatching-- put the firefighter where he can do the most good and thats on the aparatus, responding to emergency calls.
The right thing is to make sure that the proper number of firefighters and Officers are responding and that they are responding safely, and that they have training to do the job correctly, and get home to their loved ones.

1-will my firefighters get here safely.
2-will my firefighters do the job they were trained to do in a safe and efficient manner.
3-Will my firefighters return to their loved ones safely.
keep thoses things in the front of your mind.

Congratulations on a well run, very informative web site. At times it can be frustrating to listen to some of the rants on here-- some even by me . But a whole lot of very important information to the fire service has passed through here. The wealth of firefighting knowledge that some of you have is absoultly amazing... and some need to have a thicker skin.
Every firefighter should make EMTBravo part of their daily firefighter reading, if they do they will become better firefighters for their community and the people that they have sworn to protect.
    again Congratulation

JM15-- some departments are way ahead of the curve--some are a little behind the 8 ball--some departments try and are inhibited by elected personel, some departments are inhibited by their own officers and chiefs. The fire world is not like it used to be--you need intelligent capable fire officers with an eye to the future not an eye looking over their shoulder to view the past. Just because you did it one way for 50 years dosent make it right. "Times they are a changing", Laws are there to protect us, elected officials in all towns and villages should be taking note as to what happened in Tarrytown and what is going to happen in Tarrytown.
Bad decisions just might end up in tragic events.

Great point bad box--- where is he? he stood toe to toe with fdny swore he never would forget!! Said the world will hear us, now when its time to pony up and protect us...hes gone--in texas-- writing a book about how well he did. Tell that to the thousands that are sick and dying. The ones that lost insurance and are now facing the lose of unemployment. Where is he now... like the old game we use to play when we were kids "COME OUT COME OUT WHERE EVER YOU ARE"
Cant help the rant but this being held hostage by the rebublicans has just got to me. Tax breaks for the rich or no benifits for the thousands who helped clean up the biggest terriost attack on our Country.
Its just not right please remeber
I have sent my e mails to all of them whats the chances of a reply?? hmmm I will tell you slim and none.

They may have voted it down--it was the verbage "nothing passes until we get the Bush Tax passes for ALL" that my friends is being held hostage. Remember this 700billion to the debt--- its ok now to do that BUT when social security and medicare and medicade areon the table lets see how they react.
And will someone please tell John Bainer to stop crying--he got his holiday wish he will be Speaker of the House.
    There I go ranting again
Everyone please have a safe and Happy Holiday

The fact of the matter is the Rebublicans want the tax cut for the wealthy and arent afraid to hold us hostage--yes hostage. Nothing will get done untill the tax package is passed. it seems like it dosent matter to them that the increase of 700 billion to the debt is ok. Wait just wait till next year when they start with we have to cut Social security or priviatize it, have to cut health benifits, cut unemployment because it will drive up the debt. Is that coming?? as sure as the sun rising inthe east.
We all say REMEMBER 9/11 NEVER FORGET ----ALL GAVE SOME SOME GAVE ALL. We must remember too
    I am done ranting.
Scott Brown a fake---what a mistake and I am not so sure the Tea party isnt either. We can see whos standing strong in our cornor. see I had more rant in me done now.

have a training "geek"fest at the fire house have some refreshments and invite firefighters to come and share their vids with you. That might work

2353--the Woking Lt did an excellent job-- limited manpowwer on the initial call--16 stores with common cockloft, tough for any department, mutual aid was the right call form the very begining, manpower was needed in a hurry. You can always say why they were there but hard to explain why they arent.
With no IC-- no village manager, only the police--and they were very helpful. All involved should be commended. All the mutual aid companies worked hard to contain this to the store of orgin. 60 control handled this properly and efficently.

Billy thats an easy question to answer---I have seen it many times over my firefighting/union career. They get first bite and have sharp teeth. We have to scramble--like WPFD is doing now to counter them. Someone told me long ago, that there are smart people on the other side and someone tells them---just do it we can litigate it later hmmm lawyers I believe. No matter what municipalities have deep pockets and we donot.

This one is just too good to pass up. We were vertualy across the street from an A&P at one time the Chief decided that we should send one man to the store for lunch. ok not a bad idea(maybe) so he made an order that the "light duty" man would go. hmmm can you see the problems coming cant you, It seemed that the "light duty" firefighter was having a "problem" with the department with his status, haveing said that the Chief ordered him to go to the store. did I mention that he was ordred to WALK to the store?? he was on light duty because of a back injury, so he called the police and asked about crossing the street in the middle of the block---we all know what the response was. So the firefighter in question walked all the way up to the cornor crossed the street did the shopping walked allthe way back but because the lunch was "kinda" heavy he took a shopping cart out of the store area. walked all the way back up to the cornor then all the way to the station. got the lunch back to the station around 1:30 in the afternoon. it gets better he left the shopping cart on the ramp and then called the police to report it!!! The look on the chief face was pricless when the officer came to take statements.
    cant fool fighters for long
I should write a book but no one would believe it--except maybe you guys
and dont for get we get to park on departmental property for free!!

Dep Raftery _I do like the 20 min rule. You are hitting the nail right on the head-- IC's should look around at their manpower or lack there of and make rapid decisions to the handleing of the situation. Take a look at how many "interior firefighters" are there and how long it took them to get there. If you dont see enough hmmm time to call more manpower. How do you figure that out?? Simple- well not so simple-but here something to think about- 2story house fire- flames showing. basic FF says one line to the fire one line backs up the first or at least protects the means of egress. How many FF's?? 3 on each line?? ok that 6 and officer that 7, IC thats 8, pump operator up to 9 now ,opps lets not forget search and rescue hmm at least 2 more ,seems like 11 to me. Lets protect our own men with a RIT 2-3 more thats 14 and we havent laddered the building yet. Well you get the idea ,if you cant produce these numbers you better be on the lookout for mutual aid. Can lines be stretched and operated witih les the three?? Can you get away with only one line?? Can things wait?? That my firefighting friends is up to the Incident Commanders and they had better be up to the task of Commanding.
Just my thoughts on the situation

Congratulation Chris--- your training and dedication has paid off. Not to mention being in the right place at the right time. You say any one would have done the same BUT you did it. A family is safe tonight because of your actions. I am sure your whole family is proud of the actions that you took today.
