  1. Switch to Verizon you will be much happier. Its also a lot easier not hearing the annoying beep beep at the worst time.
  2. Most of the hospitals in mid lower Westchester give you a real bad attitude when you dont call ahead even for the most basic transport. It has changed from a courtsey to a requirement in the ER staffs eyes. But as far as they are concerned it seems like over the past few years they have become overwhelemed with patients. Many times now you have to wait for a bed in the ER where as a few years ago there was always one availble right away. BTW I usually have no broblem reaching the hospital with a HEAR radio as long as I am within a few miles. But you are right that traffic in the background is really annoying.
  3. Is Hastings FD and Ambulance on the FD Frequency? How does the VAC get dispached?
  4. How about folding down the rear seat....it even work in cars w/o this option...dont over look the obvious.
  5. I did a bunch or rotations at Mary Imaculate Hospital. They always brought in patients from JFK in a PAPD ambulance with PAPD police officers and a medic from an other private agency. St Vincents did not have the medic contract at that time ..2001 02
  6. Did anybody catch the article in the NYT Westchester Section regarding the paid ALS and BLS services in Westchester. I thiught it was a pretty lame article not too many statistics or facts.
  7. jl008h, I think every program has high achievers and those who just get by. You cant judge a whole program just by a few students.
  8. How about security....when their are no patients in the trauma rooms (the trauma ER is isolated) their is no staff in that area period including security officers. The doors are wide open for anybody to enter. x635...I saw that cheesy computer printed sign over the "EMS Room" sign....what a joke.
  9. I believe this is used in house. WCMC has a list of criteria to be met for level 1 & 2. It was podted on the doors of the two trauma rooms in the old ER. Mike
  10. At some large fires I have seen the county bring in a beeline bus for the firefighters to sit in and cool down. The only problem is that most of them dont want to, guess it must be the adreniline rush but they seem to want to go and go...from what I have seen.
  11. Not sure about the WCC program, If you are interested in a medic program look into some of the classes run by city hospitals. St Vincents offers a day and evening class plus a lot of clinical sites.
  12. For uniforms etc check out Pauls on E Tremont Ave. They are a lot more helpful than brothers. Mike
  13. The Town of Greenburgh Department of Parks and Recreation will be hosting its 2nd Annual Truck Extravagenza on Saturday September 18, 2004 from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm at Webb Field, 200 N. Central Park Ave Hartsdale. This event is free and will have al sorts of heavy equipment on display.
  14. Our EMS system is overburdened. Even large municipal agencies FDNY will dispatch busses from Queens to Manattan if they dont have units availble.
  15. Hudson, Unfortunatly they are not the only culprits who abuse lights and sirens.
  16. Ever notice hoe the N12 anchors and field reporters dramatize everything? Very annoying.
  17. Politics Just wondering what are your opinions regarding County Executive Andy Spano. His preaching on the news is starting to rub me wrong. He is too gung ho on reopening the Kensico Dam Roadway. I believe we should be overly cautious a keep the roadway closed. Mike
  18. I too believe the EMT class is being dumbed down. Very little A&P is taught now and many Westchester EMTs become medic dependant. Mike
  19. Blue also travels through snow and heavy rain better than red. Not sure about vs. clear & amber Mike
  20. What was the outcome of the trial with that defense? Mike
  21. HFD that is a great idea by having individual departments specially trained in certain functions. If I was in need of assistance Id rather have to wait an extra five minutes to have a Proficiently trained unit respond then have a department arrive and not be familiar with technical equipment because they dont practice often enough. Mike
  22. Recently there has been a lot of public debate regarding the recently built 9/11 Memorial Wall along Central Park Ave in Greeburgh on Webb Field. This wall has been a hot topic locally and now has made the press, See this Journal News Article 07/19/04 http://www.thejournalnews.com/newsroom/071...tcmonument.html My oppinion, The idea of the wall is a GREAT idea, however the location is horrible aswell as the basic architecture of it. The wall itself is located on the North side of the park aprox 10 feet from Central Park AVE, a major N/S roadway in the town. There is no parking within 150 yards of the wall it is extremly close to Central AVE, it blocks views of a landmark building in the town. It is also not symetrical, it appears as if the wall was quickly built without proper planning. I would propose that the wall be moved towards the parking lot of Webb Field and be set away from Central AVE, to give a more peaceful ambiance. Mike
  23. News 12 had a story as well: http://www.news12.com/WC/topstories/article?id=115234 I will try to take photoa of the whole story and not just the wall which is depicted in the clip. Mike
  24. What was the STATFLIGHT staffing like before they were disbanded. How big a crew? One copter was located at WCMC where was the other one? Mike
  25. Just on a side note..because I have seen this before. Using DPW workers to respond to aided cases can also have its negative affects on the patient. Would you want a DPW worker who was in the middle of weedwacking or paving a road to drop everything and be in the back of an ambulance with say a asthmatic ...the fumes of the asphalt or all of the debris from the grass weeds etc. on there clothes will only worsen the situation. Mike
