  1. Did Elmsford DPW make the change along with the fd? (They shared freqs)
  2. I 2nd Stew's in Yonkers. If you have a tank it is almost half of an exchange program at the gas station.
  3. The original WMC EMScrew room became an office for the staff a few weeks after the new ED / Trauma area opened up. Phelps EMS office has suffered the same fait. White Plains still has a good office for EMS to take care of business.
  4. http://www.searchsleeve.com/ Amazing, a simple idea from a responder can make millions! Makes you say why didint I think of that!
  5. Why is the county trunked radio on PD Dispatch rather than EMS 14?
  6. Lojack is also commonly put in high price construction equipment from roadside light generators larger earth movers. Believe it or not these items are commonly stolen and shipped to other parts of the country or overseas. Lojack recievers may quite possibly be installed near shipping terminals.
  7. In regards to using tranquilizing darts, or sedating the animal it is not as easy as it sounds. As Chris said earlier their are different dosages for different animals and they are all weight dependant, so it is necessary to be accurate on your estimate of the animals weight. The darts are also very slow due to being in most cases air propelled and heavy, so even if you are a "great shot" hitting the animal in the right spot (a large muscle ie. thigh or shoulder)is difficult when the animal is moving , especially as you get farther away. Once you dart an animal you own it. That means that you are responsible for its well being and sustaining its life, if you are not able to get to the animal after it is darted, it could lose its airway and die. Depending on the drug used, many animals are still conscience and just their muscles are disabled so this would be considered cruel should the animal be conscience and drown due to being darted. You would have been better off shooting it and putting it down immediately.
  8. So true, I hate when people treat then drive the ambulance while weraing the same gloves.
  9. I really think that we should stop bashing these guys without knowing all the facts. They instructed the staff to call 911 to activate the system. If they did not have gloves would you really expect them to touch a patient and perform cpr or any other assesment? All that they really could have done was call 911 and keep the scene clear.
  10. Im sure there is a lot more to the story, let remember who comes first? Providers and scene saftey, the whole scene could have been chaotic with people yelling and threatening the EMS providers. Lets not jump to conclusions.
  11. Does anybody have a listing of the departments in central Westcchester that use single horns or sirens for alarms. I always hear various horns sounding, but I am unsure what department they are comming from. Thanks Mike
  12. What are the reasons behind the closures? Didnt they just build a new ER at MIH?
  13. Did Methodist hospital start a program? I also thought that a program was starting up in the Bronx.
  14. I went there in 2002. Was a good program with about 6 participating hospitals (catholic medical centers) lots of options as far as ambulance rotations and er rotations. I believe they took a hit when their governing body closed some hospitals. I think that there is another program competing with then now. Ill try to find out.
  15. Dont wait, you will kick yourself in the rear 20 years later when you say to yourself I could have been retired by now. The NYPD will alo give you the best training and experience for your future career if you plan on getting hired by another department. Answer all questions truthfully, they will fnd out!
  16. Does this mean that the taxpayers of the Fairview Fire District have to pay for My. Vernons shortcommings?
  17. Just wondering if all of the new hires are residents of the district?
  18. The truth is nowadays their is no reason why departments should pay for cell phone use. Cell phones are no longer a luxuary but a part of most peoples life.
  19. The agency I work for provides ALS for multiple ambulance corps. For the ones that use the radio it works out great. However some agencies still use thier own radio and not the trunked one so, I contact my dispatcher who telephones another dispatcher to relay a message. It is also nice for mutual aide, being able to dial in to where ever you are going. 60 Control Dispatchers have also been helpfull on the radio. The hospital comms are also crystal clear compared to the old HEAR radio!
  20. I have a problem. This evening I had a hard time entering a parking lot in a southern Westchester village. The problem was that their was a chiefs suburban parked at the entrance of a small lot infront of a hydrant. He was not just picking up a slice of pizza, he was there for over 30 minutes. If you are gonna block an entrance dont do it in a chiefs car, it gives all members a bad name.
  21. Truckers are about it. It is very helpfull while traveling on the highways.
  22. I was looking at the IA was Scarsdale FD involved in this incident?
  23. I have to join the band wagon on the county purchasing too much equipment. Yes these are great trucks but how about those dozen or so chevy colorados they just got as well as all the other large suv/s?
  24. Just curious. Does drafting from sources like the Hudson river require any extra maintinence to the engines due to the salt water?
  25. So you are saying that bringing everybody who is sleeping or intox to the ER is CYA? Dont you think that you are over burdening the hospitals just to "CYA?"
