I think it may have been used by the vac as well for a short period of time I'll have to ask one of the older members. I know that besides the station we're at now on garrett place we've also been on fowler ave.

Yup original firehouse still owned by district it's the commissioner building.It's also the cpd sub station.

I see in the picture that there is an ambulance parked there with all the lettering off of it did somers get a new ambulance as well ?

It is a video camera that transmits back to the hospital command center so the administrative staff can see what is going on at the scene. The unit is mounted on our special operations communication vehicle. This unit is parked at the NYP Weill Cornell campus

If it's a TBTA pd rule like you said than I can see how he may have been confused. It also makes sense that there is no place for a car to go on a bridge so why bother even using it.

Neither have I that's why I'm asking the question. This was the first time I've heard this.

While at work the other day I was having a discussion with my partner about responding to calls. He had told me that it is illegal to use your siren on a bridge. Can anyone shed some light on this is this a true statement?

18 to get a class b 21 to get a class a and you can't get your hazmat endorsement or cross state lines.

I won't tell you that a 75 year old is still fit to drive and the fact that it does happen doesn't make it a good idea and certainly has very little relevancy to whether or not someone under 21 is fit to drive.

I think my question was relevant if we're going to talk about driving age why not talk about how old is too old as well. Obviously in a department with the ideal driver training program you're going to have to be re certified on every vehicle you're qualified on at least once a year and if you can't pump it or drive it properly than you're unqualified. But for departments that don't have elaborate driver training programs how would you determine the cut off age if any?

Okay so if under 21 is too young to drive than what's too old ? You're gonna tell me that the guy who's 75 and been driving for 40 years is still fit to drive your first due piece of apparatus to a working fire. And don't tell me it doesn't happen because I know of a few departments where it does.

I have to respectfully disagree. I drive an ambulance 4 days a week 10 hours a day at my job in New York City and am 19. Prior to driving ambulances I drove pick up trucks/dump trucks with landscaping trailers attatched.I've been driving since I was 16 when I got my permit. I feel that if you can handle the vehicle properly and respect what you're driving than you'll be fine. You have to exercise care when operating bigger vehicles.

In my opinion once this is final. It's only a matter of time before either the county takes over ems and gives the contract to a commercial agency or all of the other vacs/fd go to some type of paid system for ems at least during the day if not 24/7. Weather it be through a commercial agency or they take it upon themselves to hire their own outside people to come in and staff.
