  1. If it is true that WCDES is appropriating another "Large Response Vehicle" one would wonder whether or not "Regionalization" of services throughout Westchester County is on the horizon? Thus, all of these pieces of apparatus and equipment, that "could" be better utilized (in the eyes of some) and "might" be better distributed, in cases of large emergency situations. Again, look at Balitmore County (MD) and Gwinnett County (GA) and how they have successfully managed a "Regional Fire/EMS Service" with Cities, Townships and Villages similiar in sizes to Yonkers, Elmsford, Valhalla, Eastchester, New Rochelle, Irvington, etc, etc). Allot of obsticles to overcome (both Logistical and Political), but it "could" be possible.
  2. I see from the reports and photos that both Larchmont and White Plains each had a Ladder/Tower Truck at this site working. Question regarding Mutual Aide? I can understand Larchmont, Pelham, Pelham Manor, Mamaroneck, all being a close neighboring locations being requested to send in Engine and Ladder/Tower trucks and that makes sense and Mount Vernon, with their current limited resources, not being called into NewRo for this job, but why not bring in a Ladder Company and Engine Company from Yonkers FD to work this job, say vs. having White Plains come in with their Ladder Truck and Greenville FD with their Engine Company? Wouldn't the response time to this job from Yonkers be faster than say White Plains and Greenville? (or possibly Yonkers had a job or jobs going on at the same time that prevented any mutual aid request?)
  3. Now those are some Classic Trucks indeed. They don't make trucks like that anymore. (Got to love the Gold Leaf Design on the ALF's)
  4. If you thought that Ladder 16 Siren was loud, try remembering what the Old EFD Rescue 5 (Brockway) was like when it would respond up on Midland Avenue. That rig was a "BEAST" and between the Air Horn and Siren, it was an "adventure" being just in front of that rig coming towards you.
  5. Does anyone know if Tommy Gorman was from the same "Gorman Family" who once owned the Gorman Gulf Station in Bronxville (Next door to McGrath's Funeral Home)?
  6. You've got to love that Squirt Truck !!! Classic Mack !
  7. Interesting in reading the updated Apparatus Plate Assignments for Westchester County. For Yonkers FD, the Ladder Company list reflects Spare Ladders in Yonkers as having Spare Ladder 69 and Spare Ladder 77, but no reflection of Spare Ladder 81? Now I understood that Spare Ladder (Tower) 81 is one of the Spare ALF/LTI's (Old TL 71) and 77 had been used for the Old Mack/Baker CF (that had been on loan to Pelham, but I don't believe is being used anymore and might be out for auction). Did Yonkers change over their Spare Ladder Apparatus Numbering to reflect Spare Ladder 69 and Spare Ladder 77? (Does anyone know what units these are?)
  8. I think that Yonkers FD calls its RESCUE, "Rescue 1" although the County Designation is Rescue 11
  9. According to preliminary reports from both Accuweather.com (below), the Weather Channel, and all of the local Television Stations in our area, the weather front that appears to be developing that will affect the New York/New Jersey/Connecticut Metropolitan Areas this upcoming week, now being tabbed as the "Great Groundhog Day Blizzard" might be the worst of the storms that have already hit us this winter, including the one that came right after Christmas. Other than the Snow Melting Equipment that a few muncipalities have, many just have move the snow to other parts of their cities/towns/villages. Now with this alleged "Groundhog Day Super Storm" coming, is there any more room to put this snow? (Added to the fact that many our cities, towns, and villages snow removal budgets are well gone, where will the money come from to handle this upcoming storm, not mention any others that we could still see this winter? PS - I don't know if the Groundhog will see his shadow this winter, because that rodent will probably be buried under 2 feet of snow.
  10. Sorry about that "Captain" (unfortunately I don't know anyone on the City of New Rochelle Council) - LOL
  11. Chief - Thanks for the update. What NRFD company is scheduled to get this new rig (with presumable the old rig going into the spare pool). Also, is this Spartan/Smeal Engine similiar in nature (spec wise) to Yonkers new Engine 309?
  12. Its all "About The Money"! As costs rise, quality goes down. Look at when you go out today and purchase a 16" Pizza from your favorite Pizzeria. The size has come down (probably more like between 14" and 15" now, less cheese and less sauce, than in the old days. Why? Because "Is All About The Money"
  13. LOL - Chief Fitz, I think Chris has already made plans for the New YFD Hdqrs Heliport on top of your new building (See Photos Below)
  14. Heilcopper, I know that it was a LOL But, I would bet that every member at YFD Station 11 (Past and Present) are a very proud group of individuals (as are all the members of YFD) and do their very best each and every day. I really isn't about (nor should it be about) the number of runs. Its about the quality of service provided to the tax payers in Yonkers. Station 11, from the days of Engine 11 and Truck 3, to the present day of Squad 11 and the Collapse Rig, have had their share of memorable runs over the years. Keep up the great job Station 11 (PS - Wonder when [or more like "IF"] YFD ever gets a New Headquarters/Station 1, if they [YFD] moves the Collapse Rig to the New YFD Headquarters?)
  15. Step Jam - Very Very Nice Job on this replication. Any thoughts of possibly doing the 1961 Mack B1 Yonkers Rescue Truck? (May be tough given the age of the Chassis, but was just interested)
  16. Since Yonkers has apparently declared a Snow Emergency for this evening, does this mean that Engine 317 will be activated and dispatched out of Station 1 (YFD Hdqrs), Ladder 78 activated and dispatched out of Station 3 and Squad 21 dispatched out of Station 11? (Where does YFD put the Collapse Rig when it has BOTH Squad 11 and Squad 21 both running out of Station 11?) Does anyone within YFD have an update on this?
  17. Thanks Chief Fitz. Allot of other cities and municipalities should look at Yonkers and how you handle Snow Emergenices, as the way things should be done. JOB WELL DONE CHIEF !!!
  18. Chief Fitz - Since you are the "Man Who Makes These Decisions" for the City of Yonkers, so I would presume that you would have the answers for all of us "inquizitive minds", pertaining to this. (Wonder if New Rochelle, Mount Vernon or White Plains has a similiar contengcy plan to man and equip Reserve Rigs in cases where their cities declare a Snow Emergency). Look forward to your response Chief Fitz Thanks
  19. I could not have said it any better. "New Developments in Yonkers Means New Jobs" ??????? - Hey, the City of Yonkers just "CUT AGAIN" the budge line that was going to be use for funding the purchase land to build a New YFD Station 10 (In association with the "So Called PROMISSED") that was going to be built (with the developer paying for a large piece of) in relationship to the RIDGE HILL DEVELOPMENT. Ha! What a Joke. All Political Talk and NOTHING HAPPENS. There was supposed to be a Additional Fire Company added as part of the Ridge Hill Project (Presumably it was going to be a New Ladder Company). But, again, years later and NOTHING BUT LIP SERVICE. Don't bet on this New Station (10) ever getting built within the next couple of years. And don't bet on having that New YFD Fire Headquarters built as part of the Yonkers Downtown Development. Capelli just backed out of the proposed New Development in New Rochelle, so I suspect that anything for Downtown Yonkers will not see the light of day anytime soon either. "PROMISES - PROMISES"
  20. This well "may be" simply the MTA Members (Bus Drivers) being told by their Union Leaders (in repsonse to the "alleged" poor Snow Claen Up Management Job done by Mayor Bloomberg) to take their time "nagivating" the narrrow streets while doing their Bus Runs. And if any Emergency Services Vehicile just happen to need to pass them by, for a run, these bus driver members are simply to try to "Do Their Best" (If you call it that) to move the bus along. Just like the rumored "Slow Down" by the Sanitation Union to its members during this recent Snow Emergency. It "Could Be" now that the unions are all fighting agaginst each other in a case of "Survival" SAD! - VERY SAD !!!
  21. Been hearing on YFD Dispatch this morning, that they are dispatching YFD EMS # 1 (not sure if there is a YFD EMS # 2). Are these the F350 Special Operations Trucks? Are these 1 or 2 units supplimental to First Responder Engine Companies, or are they a Primary Dispatch during this Snow/Blizzard Emergency? Who is manning these 1 or 2 rigs? Does anyone know where they are being housed (East Side Station and a West Side Station? OR are they being dispatched out of Special Operations?
  22. Does anyone know why YFD is dispatching only 1 and 1 (1 Engine Company and 1 Ladder Company) along with a Battalion, for Reported Alarm of Fires? Is this something temporary during the Snow Emergency?
  23. Just heard that Engine 317, Squad 21 and Ladder 78 are in service. I would suspect at Special Operations has several of their "Reserve Rigs" placed in service, located throughout the city, to cover Emergencies. Does anyone know where YFD has these "Reserve Rigs" running out of?
  24. Great Holiday Photos from the CROTON FIRE DEPARTMENT. Happy Holidays to the members of the CFD and to everyone out there on EMTBravo. Let's see some other Fire Departments/Districts covered by EMTBravo (FDNY, Yonkers FD, FDMV, NRFD, White Plains FD, Ardsley FD, Dobbs Ferry FD, those others in New Jersey, Connecticut and Upstate New York post Holiday Photos taken in front of their respective rigs and posted here on EMTBravo.net
  25. And everyone in Westchester County thought that the issues in Yonkers, with its Fire Department was serious, imaagine what is going on in Newark, New Jersey right now? PRETTY SERIOUS I WOULD SAY http://www.nj.com/news/index.ssf/2010/12/loss_of_laid_off_newark_firefi.html
