  3. This situation is not a case of Career vs. Volunteer but rather than dealing with a State of Emergency in the City of Yonkers (As a point of note, most rural villages and towns in Westchester County have TANKERS as part of their front line fleet, and most of these "Hamets" are Volunteer manned fire departments
  4. I'd bet that the YFD Water Tender Unit is ACTIVE and "On Duty" somewhere in near St. Joseph's Hospital
  5. If the snow ends up being as bad as Accuweather is predicting, maybe some of the local departments can retro-fit some of their exisitng FD Fleets to help plow some of the snow : ) LOL
  6. From Today's Yonkers Tribune. Does this madness ever end? (Whose decision was this one?) http://yonkerstribune.typepad.com/yonkers_tribune/2012/08/yonkers-slated-to-close-to-firehouses-next-week-by-hezi-aris.html#comments
  7. Courtesy of "The Man" Joe Pinto, here is the YFD TL "855" as it looked as originally delivered as assigned as Tower Ladder 71 (As R1Smokeater referenced above), as well as (Courtesy of Ron C) the Repainted Look of YFD TL "855" as TL71 I really like this original paint job and the "Original Light Bar" on top of the cab (All Red with White Pin Striping), rather than the White on Red repaint job as referenced in the 2nd photo)
  8. This may be what it could look like over New York City, later today
  9. You are probably correct. As you indicated, you personally know of at least 2 incidents "this summer" (Mulvihill Ownership) that may not have been reported. Interesting,
  10. Reported Water Ride accident yesterday at Mountain Creek Water Park in Vernon, New Jersey (the site of the former ACTION PARK [aka "TRACTION PARK"]) Very interesting point is that this season is the FIRST season that the Mountain Creek Water Park is under ownership and management of Eugene Mulvihill, the former owner of ACTION PARK (Traction Park). During the years prior to this, when the Water Park was under the ownership of Interwest Corporation out of Canada, there were no reported accidents (unlike the years prior to the opening of the Water Park as "Mountain Creek Water Park" when it was known by many in the Tri-State Area as "ACTION PARK" where people were carted off to local hospitals regularly, due to ride accidents, as well as a couple of deaths reported at the park. Would you let your child go to Mountain Creek this year, knowing who owns the park and the history that this "Owner" has with issues reported at "His Park" ??????? http://www.nbcnewyor...-163768696.html http://www.nj.com/ne...tal_in_sus.html Wikipedia Article on ACTION PARK
  11. Last of the YFD Macks (unless you count Engine 298 [The Old Engine 306] that I believe is being stored "downstairs" at Station 8 [Alongside "Truck 5"] as a YFD Antique/Parade Unit).
  12. Scan60 is a great site. Hopefully they will be back up and running (might be a server issue). If anyone has any updates on Scan60, please post to update us all accordingly

  14. COULD NOT HAVE SAID IT ANY BETTER CHIEF !!!
  15. BARRY - I believe that we all know that Yonkers (years ago) has told Mount Vernon NOT to place Yonkers on their Mutual Aid list as Yonkers would not come to "the Vern" just to sit in a Fire House and cover, because of Mount Vernon's recent history of staffing and manpower issues (This has been commented on by many people from within YFD on EMTBravo.net for years). This is nothing new
  16. "Mutual Aid" is becoming more the "NORM" rather than the "EXCEPTION" (I see that Yonkers FD still continues to refuse to be the 1st Called Mutual Aid for Mount Vernon, just to cover stations [i guess unless they are needed to actually assist in fighting the fire]
  17. Yep, it is terrific news that we here in Rhode Island, are actually hiring, unlike, "SADLY" some of the municipalities down where I grew up near, are looking to reduce manpower/apparatus or just leaving it at very dangerous staffing/apparatus levels.
  18. As an individual who is not a professional firefighter, but rather a professional in the fire safety equipment industry, it is mind-boggling that a municipality, like the City of Mount Vernon, continues to play games with the safety, protection and life-saving efforts of its citizens and the property within the city. Back in the 1960's and early 1970's, the staffing levels and number of pieces of fire apparatus were at, in my "non-professional" opinion, proper levels (Engine 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, & 6, Truck 1, 2, 3, & 4, Rescue 1, and FDMV Ambulance 1). Now, and for several recent years, the staffing and manning levels within the city have continually been questioned. Even recently, staffing and apparatus levels in the City of Yonkers have been questioned by politicians and union leaders. Looking back at the City of Yonkers, back in the 1960's, YFD was running 13 Engine Companies, 7 Truck/Ladder Companies and 1 Rescue Company. Now, YFD is running at 11 Engine Companies, 6 Ladder Companies, and 1 Rescue, with city leaders wanting to cut the current number by even more. Some people (Professional and Non-Professional) here on EMTBravo.net, have commented on how the possibility of having a Consolidated County Fire Service (even if it was just those Career Only Departments), within the County of Westchester, might help in assisting in ensuring municipalities, such as the City of Mount Vernon, have proper and adequate coverage. Some have mentioned that, by doing this, could save tax payer dollars, as well. It appears as if "Politics" is playing a role in both the current status within the City of Mount Vernon, as well as ability to move the idea of the consolidation of fire services throughout the county, from a "Concept/Study" position, to a position of making it a "Reality" Lives and Property continue to be placed in serious jeopardy, while people haggle over political non-sense. It just makes one think about the days back in the 1960's, when an issue such as this, was not even an after-thought. HMMM??

  20. Now if he had a Old YFD Helmet (or Faceplates) for YFD Engine 1, Truck 6 and Truck 7, that would be a rare item indeed. Those 2 front faceplates from YFD Helmet Engine 5 (not 305), I would say would be the "Honus Wagner" of YFD Helmet Faceplate Collectibles.
  21. Survivair's Panther HUD Industrial SCBA has all of the latest technology related to dealing with intense heat and temperatures
  22. I personally think it is a dumb idea if Yonkers disbands its YPD-ESU division, due to budget cuts. But, apparently, Yonkers City Administrators (Mayor, City Council, etc) are determined to present a balanced budget to the state and ultimately to the citizens of the city. (Police and Fire Cuts are apparently in the plans). If this does indeed go thru, and the parkways in Yonkers are dependent upon either the YFD and now, apparently the WCPD-ESU unit, maybe this is a slow attempt to regionalize emergency services throughout the county. Yonkers, it appears, is just the first city/town/village to put their feet in the sand and take a strong financial position on this. Don't be surprised that the COUNTY OF WESTCHESTER, Department of Emergency Services gets more and more dependent upon, to provide Emergency Services Support throughout the county. as city/town/village budgets get tighter and tighter.
  23. R1 - This news is just play "horrible" - When does this all come down? July 1st? or has the Safety Battalion, Tower Ladder 71 and Engine 312 already been taken out of service? City Hall has to wake up !!!
  24. They don't make Fire Trucks like that anymore
  25. Absolutely correct. The Ridge Hill Developer contractually promised in the development agreement that they would build a New Fire House (Speculated as a New Station 10) and that the city would add an additional Ladder Company (Ladder 77) to this new firehouse at Ridge Hill Today, that is still a pipe dream. More Political Baloney - The New Downtown Development project is supposedly to include a New 6 Apparatus Bay Fire Headquarters on the corner of New Main Street and Neprahan Avenue. "6 Apparatus Bays?????" For what trucks (you will only have 1 piece of apparatus for this building [Rescue 1], so why such a large building???? (Rumor had it that along with TL71 and R1, the City was going to add 2 additional Engine Companies at this facility (Engine 301, & 302) as part of the New Downtown Development Don't hold your breath citizens of Yonkers, as it is getting worse rather than better as it relates to Fire Apparatus in the city.
