  1. The FD won 6-4, it was a great night, the PAL was packed !!
  2. When i was younger, my father lived on Leewood Circle and we had a patio that faced Rt. 22 and many of times I would hear that siren coming and I would go on the patio and see rescue 5 going north on Rt. 22, yes I was and still am a buff
  3. Rest In Peace My Brother
  4. I am increasingly disgusted with the way the media is portraying this guy as the victim in this case. The victims are the cops who were involved, end of story. As for these so called " minority law enforcement groups" who are so concerned with this case, the majority of them are corrections officers who have no clue what it's like to be a street cop. They should be embarassed to have held that press conference and said the anti cop things that they said. It's funny how they come out of the wood work when a cop shoots someone but when gang members are killing each other and people are getting robbed, beaten, raped, burglarized and shot each and every day, they say nothing. These jerks are opportunists and nothing more. Everyone ran to back up this guys family and his friends version of what happened and now that his BAC is back at a .13 everyone is quieting down a bit. It kind of reminds me of the tawana brawley case all those years ago... everyone ran to her defense and just like the witnesses in this case, she was a LIAR. I pray that our brothers are doing well as they try to come to terms with the actions that they were forced to take. These cops made the right decisions and did an outstanding job given the circumstances. Just think, you have a large crowd and an out of control drunk driver, if the officer didn't take the action he did, imagine what the outcome could have been if the car sped into the crowd. This cop not only did the right thing, he is a hero in my book.
  5. My thoughts and prayers go out to our brothers who were forced to take the action that no cop ever wants to take. I use the word forced because thats what it was, they were forced by the suspect to use deadly physical force. I have every expectation that this shooting will be found justified by the grand jury. I am disgusted but not suprised by the reporting by news12 of this issue. This guy wasn't the "victim" he is the "suspect" but yet they keep referring to him as the victim. The only victims in this situation are the 3 officers that are involved. I laughed when I saw the comment from one of the naacp leaders who asked when will the police move away from the mentality that they always have to use a gun and when will they learn to use a taser instead. This is comical because when a cop uses a taser, the same guy will be crying brutality. The police literally can't win. I wasn't really suprised by a lot of the news12 and lohud comments, not in this liberal county. It's amazing how people that know nothing about policing will always try to second guess us, no other profession gets second guessed like law enforcement. Stupid comments like " sounds like someone is trigger happy" and " why didn't they shoot out the tires." You come to expect it but what's very bothersome to me is that the officers and their families have to see and read that nonsense and it only makes it worse on them. I am so disgusted with news 12 that I have called verizon and made an installation appointment for fios just to get rid of cablevision and I cancelled my subscription to the journal news as soon as I saw their headlines... I would urge other to do the same. Sorry guys, I know I started ranting but some things just get under your skin..

I am urging everyone to please make an effort to come to the 10-13 on October 3 at Dunwoodie. Thank You all in advance for your help.
  7. It's become very clear over the past few years that only in very rare circumstances can law enforcement get a fair shake from the media. I find that most stories about law enforcement have a slant to them and it's never positive. Down here we see this constantly with news 12.. no matter what we do we can't get a positive story out of them
  8. Maybe in a perfect world people don't cheat and people don't lie but as most of us know, this world is far from perfect. I don't agree with what they did but I can't pass judgement based on a media article that will inevitably have a liberal slant to it. FBI operations are tightly controlled and there are many checks and balances so no one agent can operate on his own without a supervisory agent overseeing what he is doing. What these agents did will IN NO WAY put anyone's rights in danger.. this is an internal situation and should be handled accordingly. Just think .. it's not like this was a test to become GLG 20's !!!
  9. It was an Open Book Test - What part of that escapes you ? Why are you taking something like this and right away saying " It's terrifying " and " What about my rights " Do you have anything to hide ? Are you engaged in any anti American or pro terrorist organizations? No I didn't think so .. so I don't really think you have anything to worry about. Is this a bad thing to have happen ? Yes of course it is .. will affect the great job the FBI does everyday to keep up safe ? No of course it won't. In the post 9/11 world the 4th amendment can't be hidden behind. We all have to understand that in the name of national security, there are certain things that the government may have to do to keep us safe, I say go for it, do what you have to do. Thank you for taking the time to read my rant, from time to time some things just need to be said !!!
  10. I understand that they are the same level crime but i've seen it done as a "compromise" many many times. Does it make sense, no, but i've been told that the thinking is that defendants are more apt to plead guilty to something that " doesn't sound as bad" - An ADA's words not mine - so i guess in this case a dis con sounds better than a harassment even though they are both violations. Again it makes no sense to me but then again the legal system doesn't always make sense.
  11. This was not a "physical assault" this was a harassment in the eyes of the law which is a violation, which is punishable by 15 days in jail or a monetary fine. It shouldn't have happened but it did but it's not the crime of the century. My prediction is that it will be dropped to a disorderly conduct and he will be given an ACD and a fine. I saw the video, it seemed clear to me that bernstein was looking for a problem to get on tape and he got one, and I'm sure he already has his lawsuit paperwork filled out, if it's not already filed. The town board by not removing polit in NO WAY was condoning his actions, in fact they were adhering to proper procedure and allowing due process to take it's course. After the case is adjudicated then the town board will be free to act because then they will have the transcripts, statements and verdict to look at to make a decision. I don't know what kind of work this committee has done, I don't live in Greenburgh so frankly I don't care but I do hope that whatever they do it keeps the residents of Greenburgh safe.
  12. The plea deal comes from the DA's office. During a pre-trial conference the DA proposes the plea to the judge who has to agree to it and it is then passed on to the defense for their consideration. The judge stated the plea in court but it wouldn't actually come from him. In most cases the time is concurrent. As far as the max time if convicted on all charges, the top count is assault in the 1st degree which can carry a sentence of 15 + years, then you have the additional charges of grand larceny, posession of stolen property, unlawfully fleeing a police officer, reckless endangerment and i'm sure there are a few more things im not thinking of right now.
  13. YOU ARE KIDDING ME WITH THIS NONSENSE RIGHT????? I'm going to reply to this post point by point. 1. This punk is not underage as you say.. In NY, 16 and over go to the county jail and 15 and under go to woodfield cottage so he is in the county jail and will serve his time in New York State Prison...he is very much of age and will answer for his crimes as an adult. 2. Just because this kid tells as story about being afraid for his life, you believe it right away? Did it ever occur to you that he needed a story to cover or try to explain his actions and that is the tall tale he came up with ? You make a bold statement that he was clearly not of sound judgement or mind when the event occured... HOW DO YOU KNOW ?? Are you his shrink, social worker, parent or friend ? No, so it seems that you aren't qualified or able to make that statement. You coming to this kids defense is sickening !!! 3. This is a very strong case, he made statements, they saw him in the stolen car and he was pulled from the stolen car after he struck Officer Osso's vehicle... what more evidence do you need ?? I've been a cop for 12 years and have dealt with the DA's office nonsense many times.... they will give a plea to anyone just to save money and get an easy conviction to keep the conviction rate up. 4. This seems like a fair trade to who ??? Maybe to you but not the rest of us... I don't know what world you live in but in my world, when a cops gets hurt there are no fair trades ... the lives of my brothers and sisters aren't available for fair trades ... when a cops gets hurt or killed there should be swift judgements and harsh penalties, NOTHING LESS !!! The example you gave of a DWI sentence with a fatality doesn't apply because the laws are different when it comes to crimes against on duty police officers, a little fact I guess you over looked. 5. You say that maybe complete justice isn't in everyone's best interest ?? THE ONLY JUSTICE SHOULD BE FOR P.O. OSSO, HE IS THE VICTIM HERE - END OF STORY - there doesnt need to be any second chances for this punk kid, he made his choices and he made his bed and now he goes to jail. My Hope is that this kid rejects the deal and is found guilty at trial and is sentenced to the maximum for his crimes.
  14. I had the opportunity to see the carbon at police week in DC, it's an incredible vehicle and very imposing in person. I would wager to say that you will NEVER see any of these on the streets in Yonkers and if they are put into wide ranging use nation wide then yonkers will get them in 20-30 years.....
  15. A great job by all involved !!! Thank God the air crew were OK and had one moron under !!
  16. While I agree that you need to always keep your crew and patient safe I completely disagree that EMS calls are always an emergency... maybe where you live people only call for an ambulance when needed but in Yonkers, people in the hood call for stomach aches, bloody noses, vomiting, back pain or the ever popular "I've drank too much and want to go sleep it off at the hospital so come get me" . People are under the impression that A. They don't have to pay for an ambulance and B. If you come to the ER by ambulance that you will be seen right away, obviously both falsehoods. Just because it's called the emergency medical services DOES NOT MEAN it's an emergency
  17. I was going to leave this alone but now feel compelled to reply due to the fact that it always seems that no matter what the thread is about, this one happens to be about EMS, someone has to drag the PD into it. First i will say that Empress has some pretty terrible drivers - hold on I didn't say all, I said some !! There have been MANY times when you see them fly through an intersection lights and sirens and just avoid an accident barely. I had an incident with them 6 or 7 years ago, it was 7 AM and we had a voluntary EDP that was going to St. Joe's for a psych eval. We were in a parking lot behind the carpet shops on nepperhan avenue and all of a sudden you could hear the siren and here comes this BLS bus flying into the parking lot lights and siren and didnt shut the siren off unit they put the bus in park.. you know how much traffic there is in the empty parking lots at 7 am. As far as the cops putting their lights on to go through red lights, you have no clue where those guys are going or what type of job they are going to. They could be going after someone or trying to get to an area where a plain clothes cop is doing a surveillance and they need to get there quickly but quietly. The other problem is that when people in yonkers (and probably other areas also) see an emergency vehicle with lights and sirens on they just stop where they are, no attempt to pull over and it only makes getting to a scene that much harder. So when you approach an intersection many times putting your lights on as you approach an intersection sometimes is the best way to get through it.
  18. I think the strobes in the brake lights in the troop car look orange again. Putting emergency lights and making them effective on a slick top is a tough on a slick top. As for the LVMPD car goes, i was never a big fan of the V bar but the reds look red to me. As far as i'm concerned, every piece of emergency should look like a christmas tree for our safety.
  19. I just watched the video and from a distance the red lights almost looked orange which all drivers associate with tow trucks or construction vehicles and really don't slow down for them.
  20. I know the PD and the FD can always get along but i think the NYS government makes it difficult for anyone to ever get along with them !!!
  21. Just a few things, first off I think that the majority of us agree that any additional warning lights on any vehicle to keep members safe is a great thing. Second, I think it is a COMPLETE waste of time to pass laws that regulate what color lights go on which emergency vehicles, each department should put whatever color lights they deem necessary for the safety of their members. As far as the posters who were complaining about the local PD's not following "the law" You guys are kidding right ? Why would you even care what color lights the PD uses, the fact is that we have had blue lights for years and we will continue to use blue lights because as we have established in this thread, blue lights give advanced warning to drivers. Do you really think a cop would walk up to the driver of a fire truck and give him a hard time for the color lights on his light bar, NO because we have better things to do besides worry about the color of a light and so do you guys. The best example of PD using blue lights is the NYSP. The went from all red to having some blue lights on their bars and to me it makes a huge difference when you see them on the highway.
  22. Rest in Peace Gentlemen, God Bless You.
  23. I agree, anything that can be done to increase safety should always be a priority. We have all been at scenes where we just shake our heads at how people drive when they are near emergency vehicles, the danger is real.
