  1. I cant say that I am a fan of this car .......
  2. the problem with PTSD is that it's most commonly diagnosed in the military and it is pretty much dismissed in the emergency services. I would bet that there are a ton of people that suffer from PTSD in the emergency services fields that go untreated. If you are struggling, reach out brothers and sisters, we are all here to help.
  3. I am one of two PBA reps in my precinct and I make sure that the numbers for the peer support team are always posted on the PBA bulletin board as well as a poster with a ph0one number for suicide prevention for cops.
  4. I found this on officer.com, it's a pretty good read. http://www.officer.com/article/10850327/police-suicides-drop-in-2012 It's saddens me to think that there were 126 of my brothers and sisters out there that felt they were so alone and that things were so bad that they had no choice but to take their own life. It is incumbant on us all to keep an eye on each other and to offer a helping hand or a kind word or an offer to talk if we see someone that may be in need. We are all quick to ball break which most certainly has it's place in the emergency services but maybe if we were all as quick to notice the warning signs of a coworker in distress, something can be done to save a life. The YPD dealt with this in 2005 when one of our brothers took his own life. We now have a peer counseling team made up of specially trained cops and supervisors that are available 24/7 to assist a cop in need. Yonkers also has an EAP program where all city workers can seek help.
  5. it will be kept at the ESU building on yonkers avenue
  6. The PD will be the primary for this vehicle. It will be housed at the ESU office on Yonkers Avenue and is already numbered "857" which is in keeping with our ESU unit numbering.
  7. A suspect who is trying to destroy evidence would 9 times out of 10 not call 911 to say hes scared and is driving to a well lit area. An honest civilian on the otherhand would be more likely to call 911 and explain whats happening. In these gray areas It would be up to the cop and his gut feeling if it would be appropriate to charge any of the following : 270.25 Unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle in the third degree. A person is guilty of unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle in the third degree when, knowing that he or she has been directed to stop his or her motor vehicle by a uniformed police officer or a marked police vehicle by the activation of either the lights or the lights and siren of such vehicle, he or she thereafter attempts to flee such officer or such vehicle by driving at speeds which equal or exceed twenty-five miles per hour above the speed limit or engaging in reckless driving as defined by section twelve hundred twelve of the vehicle and traffic law. Unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle in the third degree is a class A misdemeanor. S 270.30 Unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle in the second degree. A person is guilty of unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle in the second degree when he or she commits the offense of unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle in the third degree, as defined in section 270.25 of this article, and as a result of such conduct a police officer or a third person suffers serious physical injury. Unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle in the second degree is a class E felony. S 270.35 Unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle in the first degree. A person is guilty of unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle in the first degree when he or she commits the offense of unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle in the third degree, as defined in section 270.25 of this article, and as a result of such conduct a police officer or a third person is killed. Unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle in the first degree is a class D felony. The interesting part of these laws is that it has to be a uniformed officer or a marked radio car, so true unmarked cars are out but slick tops that are marked are good to go.
  8. Civilians need to use their heads first and foremost. The one thing that people need to realize is that there are very few if any unmarked cars that still use cherry lights, most unmarked cars light up like christmas trees when you throw the lights on. I have worked plain clothes for the last 7 years and all of our unmarked cars, even the good cars are well lit so if a car tries to stop you with a single light that looks shady, they should call 911 and tell them their concern while continuing to drive to a well populated, well lit area. That is of course not to say that an impersonator wouldn't or couldn't go to great lengths to hook a car up to look legit but it is pretty unlikely. The public also needs to be aware of light colors, if someone is trying to pull you over with a single amber, green or blue light, thats not the cops. The flip side of this is that a perp can easily try to employ this argument while destroying evidence while he " drives to a well populated area because he is concerned with his safety." As with many things in law enforcement, there is a huge gray area here. In regards to this clown that has been arrest 3 or 4 times now for impersonating a cop, if someone tries to flash a badge at you ( and a fugazy looking badge at that) and tells you to pull over with no lights and no sirens and you do, you are out of your mind.
  9. Trust me, people feel that it's ok to pull up to a marked car and talk and text so they aren't going to be on the lookout for unmarked cars. These cars are purchased from the state contract and the prices to the PD are not as costly as it is to the general public. Even if they are a few inches higher, they are patrol vehicles and will be used for other purposes, not just traffic enforcement. The NYSP is always obtaining new vehicles and these will just be a little higher. The increased summons revenue will help pay for many of these vehicle. Lastly, if this idea is one of the dumbest thing you've heard since being on this site then you obviously don't read some of the posts that carefully.
  10. It's funny how when many of us came on the job, we were looked down upon by the rest of society because we were "only" civil servants. Now because we have done well for ourselves, we are under attack, we really can't win
  11. We were actually asked to vote on the new color scheme. A majority of the department picked this design over 2 others. It's usually tough to get cops excited about anything but guys are very excited to get the new cars on the road.
  12. Before I even attempted to read this garbage, I saw that these 2 windbags are from berkley and that was it for me. You can't figure out how a city needs to be policed using mathmatic equations, you figure it out by working an early tour in my precinct in the middle of the summer during a heatwave. There is no reason to give this report any creedence. I say print it out and toss it in the circular file.
  13. I am f****** disgusted by what I just saw on the news about this story. I watched brave cops rush an attempted murder suspect with total disregard for their own safety and then I saw them have to deal the the lembhard family who rushed the cops and made the scene more chaotic. - ** For those of you who weren't aware, this clown who got locked up today is the brother of the other clown that NPD was forced to shoot earlier this year. This is a scenario that we deal with all the time, family members instead of standing back, come up and get involved, many times physically leading to their arrest also. I also saw that f****** ambulance chaser sussman who i believe was wearing a bullet resistant vest, right in the middle of the whole thing. These a******* said that they were in the house voluntarily and were not held hostage so if the orange county DA had any stones, he would charge them all with obstruction !!!!!! I'm glad the brothers from the NPD, OCSO, NYSP and USMS are all ok and there is now one less lembhard to prey on the citizens of orange county.
  14. Trooper Andrew Fox of the Virginia State Police was killed in the line of duty last week. When 9 year old Lane Snow found out that the Trooper's funeral procession would be going by his house, he put his Cub Scout uniform on and stood by the road and saluted the entire procession which was 2 miles long. That means he held his salute for approximately 15 minutes. Even through their grief, the Troopers and Officers in the procession took notice of this kid and his salute and honored him at his Cub Scout meeting this week. This kid is the proud future of America !! http://www.wdbj7.com...s_story_display
  15. Thats a great stand up thing to do !!! I'm very proud of Sleepy Hollow, Great Job guys !!!
  16. He doesn't look all that healthy to me, It looks like he could use a nice juicy steak !!!!!
  17. I have nothing to add to the topic at hand but i will give you all a heads up..... I looked at my con ed bill that came the other day and it seemed very high, especially the cost of electricity supply. I called con ed and asked them what they were prepared to do for me since they did not supply me with electricity for 8 days. The guy on the phone said that con ed estimated all of the bills this month and that is why the amounts seemed higher. The guy i spoke to allowed me to read the actual meter numbers to him and he was sending me out an adjusted bill that would be considerably lower that the one I had in hand. The bottom line is that if you have con ed, check your bill and call them, don't let them fleece you for any more money than they already get from us
  18. Congratulations on a well deserved promotion ! PO Marcano has brought great honor to himself, his family, the NYPD and all of Law Enforcement. In my opinion, this case shouldn't even go to a grand jury, the powers that be should do their investigation and call it a clean shoot and thats the end of it.
  19. I went to the Police Academy with Fred, he is a great guy and a great cop
  20. That is the plate reader at the front of the light bar. The cars aren't in service yet, we still have a bunch of white ones that need to be put in service first. We actually voted for the color scheme, we picked this one out of 3 or 4 options. This car has been out of the garage a few times, it led the funeral procession for Det. McCabe last month and was brought around to the national night out events. They are comfortable to sit in and are very workable but i think they are almost too nice to be radio cars.......

  22. I miss Landy's, they always had THE BEST wedges. You could call to order over the phone but the phone was always off the hook by 10 am because they already had too many orders to fill as well as the line that was always out the door and onto willow street. I remember walking in there and seeing the cats laying on the shelves and old man Landy cutting meat for the wedges and then throwing a couple of pieces to the cats. It was a great place, an old school staple of the park hill neighborhood. The place on saw mill comes close but I don't think anyone will ever be able to duplicate a Landy's wedge.
  23. I found the following on the DOJ's website..... Outlaw Motorcycle Gangs (OMGs) are organizations whose members use their motorcycle clubs as conduits for criminal enterprises. OMGs are highly structured criminal organizations whose members engage in criminal activities such as violent crime, weapons trafficking, and drug trafficking. There are more than 300 active OMGs within the United States, ranging in size from single chapters with five or six members to hundreds of chapters with thousands of members worldwide. The Hells Angels, Mongols, Bandidos, Outlaws, and Sons of Silence pose a serious national domestic threat and conduct the majority of criminal activity linked to OMGs, especially activity relating to drug-trafficking and, more specifically, to cross-border drug smuggling. Because of their transnational scope, these OMGs are able to coordinate drug smuggling operations in partnership with major international drug-trafficking organizations (DTOs). Just because you may know some of them and they are "charitable" doesn't mean they aren't part of a criminal organization. When you see a gang poster in a precinct, the hells angels are listed right along side the bloods and the crips, they are all gang members there is no difference.
  24. It was an incredibly busy weekend for us in the 4th. Thank you for the support, it's good to know that we still have people behind us.
