  1. Did anyone notice after the mother got on the chopper she immediately, without prompting put on the headset? I guess she had done this flight before. Sorry, Trauma's golden hour has expired. Can NBC spell F-L-A-T-L-I-N-E. This show isn't even on life support. Just my opinion.
  2. I can tell you from first hand knowledge that regardless of people's opinions there is planning going on in Peekskill OEM for this and other scenarios the only problem is everyone wants to play in their own sandbox with their own toys and no one wants to share. Most of your comments are totally on point. We are not utilized to our fullest potential but that is a precieved control issue from some of the powers that be. The last thing we would do or want to do is step in and take over. Coordination of resources and agencies is the primary function of OEM along with helping to take the load of the IC with what every they feel comfortable delegating. Regardless of being volunteer PEMO has a 24/7 response coverage for the city including the Mobile Command Unit and probably does as much if not more than some paid OEMs. I would welcome discussion and input from anyone who really wants to be involved in a proactive way. We are already well into a detailed plan of tracking and reporting of cases with the school district which gives us a pulse on the community at large. Pre-planning is paramount in incident success and communication is just a important. alsfirefighter, feel free to contact me anytime, I would love to sit down and talk more in person.
  3. Just a question.. is your FAST Team trained to do the Level A entry for the member recovery or rapid decon after recovery or both. Either way I think it is an excellent idea. Anytime an agency takes the time to cross train members only provides more trained resources on a scene. Whoever came up with that concept was really thinking ahead and outside the box.
  4. NY Post article naming victims of minivan. NY POST Article. All from Babylon LI returning from a camping trip.
  5. Reading the LoHud discussion board a writer claiming to be a friend of the woman's husband stated that early reports from NYSP and the ME are that the woman may have been postictal (post seizure) and disorientated when she got on the Taconic. He eluded to the fact that she had a history of seizures in his posting. If this in fact was true it would explain alot, not realizing she was passing numerous cars buzzing past her in the opposite direction I am sure blowing horns and flashing headlights.
  6. Did this accident not occur north of the 117 exit ramp. I passed the scene at aprox 3:30 pm and both of the other vehicles appeared well north of the exit ramp itself, basically between the exit ramp and the entrance ramp area. While this seemed the most logical answer that she entered at Rt 117 it does not seem plausable but I guess the NYSP AI team has their work cut out for them. Also it seems their are reports of northbound drivers, north of 117 claiming they dodged this woman driving south in the northbound lanes at a "high rate of speed and unaware of being on the wrong side of the road". If this is the case maybe the exit at Pleasantville Rd is more plausable. If you look on google earth it is a single exit ramp.

  8. prucha25 allow me to correct one item on your post. Peekskill OEM has taken the position of providing Incident Command Support to the incident commander on major events inclding the 4th of July Fireworks and the Peekskill Celebration. Peekskill OEM never takes charge nor assumes the role of IC on incidents. The nature of the vehicle allows for computerized ICS tracking and reporting, internet access, multiple radio frequency operations and recording when needed, remote camera feeds, and detailed incident report production for the IC on event completion. Aside from that great pictures.

  13. April 28 (Bloomberg) -- GlaxoSmithKline Plc and Roche Holding AG stepped up production of antiviral drugs as concern spread that a swine-flu pandemic may develop, and vaccines to protect against the current strain remained months away.
  14. Sounds like another one of the County's lovely expensive but problem plagued radios. Needs to go back for reprogramming from Metrocom or ESS. This radio is now just another pretty electronic box on your dash good for nothing, not much different from when it "worked".
  15. I have to agree. Balls to the wall response does no one any good if you never make it to the scene. Confirmed pin job, structure fire with trapped residents, etc, it does not matter, you rap up you just tie up resources to save your butt and the butt of those you hit in the process not to mention the resources you were bringing never make it to the job anyway. I must admit that they do seem to move over better when they can see you coming through the windshield instead of the mirror but it just is not worth the risk. Due caution is the word you will hear in every EVOC course you ever take. Never push your limits, drive within them.

  18. Scary enough but a check of current FAA regs shows that Westchester County Airport is listed as a Index B for ARFF. Determining ARFF needs The requirements for ARFF vehicles depend on the Airport Index, as defined in Federal Aviation Regulation Part 139. The Airport Index is determined by taking the average number of scheduled passenger flights per day over the busiest three months in the preceding 12-month period. For airports that are in the process of starting or expanding passenger service, a projection may be used instead. If there are five or more scheduled daily flights of passenger aircraft with lengths within one or more of the index ranges, then an airport is assigned the index corresponding to the longest range. For example, if there are five or more scheduled daily flights of passenger aircraft with lengths in the Index A range and five or more in the Index B range, then the airport would be assigned an Index B. Airport Index The Airport Index applies to all airports served by scheduled air carriers operating aircraft with a seating capacity greater than 30 passengers. The index determines the minimum number of ARFF vehicles required and the minimum types and quantities of extinguishing agents carried by those vehicles. Airport Index AircraftLength ARFF Vehicles Extinguishing Agents (combined capacities of all vehicles) A less than 90 ft 1 500 lbs. of sodium-based dry chem., or 450 lbs. of potassium-based dry chem plus 100 gal. of water/foam B 90-125 ft 1-2 Index A with 1,500 gal. of water/foam C 126-158 ft 2-3 Index A with 3,000 gal. of water/foam D 159-200 ft 3 Index A with 4,000 gal. of water/foam E over 200 ft 3 Index A with 6,000 gal. of water/foam source: http://firechief.com/suppression/foam/fire...ffs_evolve_air/ The airport stat listing that shows the ARFF FAA Index link is: http://www.airnav.com/airport/KHPN So based on this information the one aiport manager manning the one ARFF vehicle meets the minimum specs. But is it really doing what is best for the passengers. We all know that with notice the tower can get tons of help standing by to help but stuff happens on take off and landings without notice and one guy jumping in a truck is not going to cut it.
  19. In other words the school districts are saying, prices are up, home values are down, the economy is bad, your in a hole, we have to charge more to make up, so here is a bigger shovel, dig deeper we want MORE!!! Enough already. I am tired of hearing how hard teachers work, they chose the profession they work in, and they work only 180 days a year, are off every weekend, holiday and snow storm not counting 6 to 8 weeks every summer. They knew the salary going into the job and still chose to follow the path they chose. So they grade papers at night and get even by giving the kids tons of weekend & holiday homework. Some do come in early and stay late but most show up at 7 and leave at 3. Teach 4 to 5 - 50 minute period a day or a total of 4 hours work a day.
  20. The Federal plan is to give Bernie a job while he is in prison for life. He is going to be put in a room in front of a color Xerox machine making crisp new $100 bills all day. As long as they can print them, they feel they can spend them. You know the old saying, I can't be broke, there are still checks in my checkbook. Gotta love the Feds.
  21. While eliminating county government does not solve the problem sometime the best way to get an employee to wake up and smell the coffee, and lets face it county government is "our employee" is to threaten them with possible termination. I do find that the biggest part of our taxest is from our bloated school taxes that come under the guise of a "vote" by which parent are told "just try and vote no and your kids will suffer with no sports or extras" in addition to the many unfunded mandates the state passes down for us to pay such as subsidizing the low subway fares in NYC and the student bus fares in NYC. Tax Payer need to start speaking up. How can we afford 7 to 10% tax increases? Who got a 10% pay raise last year?
  22. While I think the petition is a great idea and I signed it myyself it should be noted that once signed you recieve an email from the sponsor soliciting a donation of $100 or more for the project. I feel that this is in poor taste.
  23. Barry, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family in this difficult and trying time.
  24. Part of the answer lies in the actions of the personnel on scene. If you "identify" a patient that may require treatment and/or transport then you place yourself in a position to do a formal RMA. Personally once "patient" contact is made an RMA should be secured for everyone not transported. Just the fact that a person would allow you to evalute them as opposed to stating on initial contact "I am fine, I do not need help" places the question that not only you but the "patient" saw a potential need for treatment and/or transport. CYA with an RMA while time consuming is always the safest bet to protect not only your agency but you personnally.
  25. One question, does anyone know the cost. The say on the web site "affordable" but there is affordable and practical when it comes to budget line items these days.
