Those poor guys haven't had a consistent livery in a long time. They have the white with blue stripes which is most common, but a few years ago they had silver with blue & yellow stripes. There are still a few silver cars around in CT.

As an aside, does anyone know why TBTA did not merge into MTA PD when all the others did, I know they picked up a highway unit due to the merger.

TBTA did not merge bc they do not have Police Officer status , only peace officer status. Plus there were issues with seniority and training.

  2. TBTA- first they changed their patch to say NEW YORK STATE.

Now they have cars that look like NYSP??

Multiple failed attempts to get them police officer status so they want it to say NYS all over their patches and cars in an attempt to get more credibility.

  3. SP is always going to provide patrol services. Everyone in the state pays for that service so its not likely to go anywhere.

I agree that this is probably all academic at this point, but maybe the Sheriff's "lukewarm" response to the idea is due to his concern/fear for the future of his department. Think about the possible implications for a Sheriff's Office if a County Police is formed, and again I stress this is ALL HYPOTHETICAL:

    1. All field law enforcement operations become the County PD's responsibility. Sheriff's Office becomes responsible only for court security, county jail, and serving legal process. Hardly an exciting prospect for those working for the SO.

    2. As in Westchester County, the County PD takes charge of almost everything and the Sheriff's Office becomes an Auxiliary unit.

Also, if there is a County PD formed I'd be surprised if an elected politician is put in charge of it...

Sheriffs Office in Westchester handes the civil matters. They also have a part-time unit of deputies who assist county and local PD with additional manpower. Sheriff role was merged with Commissioner through a legal change. Other counties kept the 2 roles separate.

Putnam could end up like Nassau County with the Sheriff handling only civil and jail. PD handles LE functions.

  4. What really is mind boggling about some of these posts is how people can perceive the yfd of going after empress when in fact it is empress who is trying to take all control over the 1st responder program which would result in the possibility of the yfd losing several fire companies. Can someone explain to me what empress would lose (not gain) if the system would remain the same? Thanks!

if YFD is going to lose several fire companies bc Empress expands the 1st responder program, then I think there is a bigger problem. I'm pretty sure the fire companies exist for fire reasons and not medical reasons.

  5. Found this in the Campus Fire Safety file on their website.

...Mayor Spano’s proposed cuts to the Yonkers Fire Department. As someone who would be directly impacted by these cuts we humbly ask that you call Mayor Spano and City Hall and voice your concern about keeping the YPD properly staffed.

  6. black isnt bad either. it goes well with the gray uniforms so its not totally out of whack. cost savings add up when you count how many cars they have. plus the current decals will work on black as well.

  7. In the City of New York Sanitiation Police ARE Police officers with full police powers.

    NYS CPL Section 2 sub-section 59

    59. Officers and members of the sanitation police of the department of

sanitation of the city of New York, duly appointed and designated as

peace officers by such department; provided, however, that nothing in

this subdivision shall be deemed to authorize such officer to carry,

possess, repair or dispose of a firearm unless the appropriate license

therefor has been issued pursuant to section 400.00 of the penal law.

Provided, further, that nothing in this subdivision shall be deemed to

apply to officers and members of the sanitation police regularly and

exclusively assigned to enforcement of such city's residential recycling

    laws.

  8. dont believe they are armed but do have Peace Officer powers under the CPL.

they are not part of Yonkers PD. employed solely by the Raceway. there's been ongoing arguments about using the term "Police" on their patch, similar to the arguments regarding NYC Homeless Police, Hospital Police, Sanitiation Police etc. dont think its going anywhere and I dont think the regulars frankly care enough to make a big stink about it.
