  1. Eastchester takes the prize for 1st job of the year, 0005hrs. Highland & White Plains Rd. working structure. unk specifics
  2. Just an FYI; 60 does NOT dispatch all the vol. in Westchester. THey do not dispatch all the career dept in West Co. I agree with consolidation of some depts and some areas. I agree with consolidation of the psaps in the county. Centralized dispatch is more effecient across the board. So some people will lose their local PD as dispatch. I know some cops who would support this but also some PBAs who are opposed to this because they may lose soem arguing points at contract negotiations.
  3. A consolidation study can and should be done. Consolidation is not an all or nothing situation. Some areas such as equipment purchasing (variety of apparatus) and dispatch appear to be the easies.
  4. I was replying to NYmedic37's comments about spreading the money around equally and then to Barry's question. I had no intention of going "off topic". To talk consolidation of the departments in Greenburgh involves many agencies who already train together as a battalion multiple times a year utilizing most, if not all, the equipment in the battalion. It's not only the FDs that need to be on board but the politics need to be addressed between 6 incorporated villages that already have a strained political relationship with the town. There was a recent study done in merging some aspects of Dobbs PD with Greenburgh PD and there are many many residents of the village (not immediatly related with the PD) who oppose such a merger.
  5. There are sections of Unincorporated Greenburgh that are not covered by Greenville, Hartsdale or Fairview. The town then contracts with the villages adjacent to those areas and pays a negotiated amount to the village for that village to provide the fire protection for those unincorporated areas. The contract is multiyear and varies from village to village. When my father lived at 412 Benedict Ave, he was in the Glenville FPD but the responding FD was Tarrytown. The villages do collect the village taxes. The towns issue the marriage licenses and collect the mortgage tax and the town tax then makes disbursments as necessary. Greenburgh does NOT collect the taxes as a service for the villages
  6. The villages will lose the revenue that the town pays them. This money goes into the village's general funds and is used for whatever the village wants to. The village's look at this money as revenue that can be allocated in what ever way they feel. While it may be more effecient and cost effective to have a single department; the mayors & board of trustees of these villages, most likely would oppose any consolidation because 1. they lose revenue and 2. the politicians lose control. It's not the chiefs, individual companies or members that would be the hurdle but the politicians. The villages will argue home rule and cannot be forced by the town to do this. As in the past, there are differences between the politicians of the town & villages to the point that the 6 villages are having a study done to leave the town and form another one without Greenbugh.
  7. One objection to any consolidation would be the incorporated villages, NOT THE MEMBERS. The villages would lose money.
  8. There are a total of 9 depts. in the Town of Greenburgh. 3 are FPD (Greenville, Hartsdale & Fairview) while 6 are municipal departments of the incorporated villages. (Ardsley, Dobbs Ferry, Elmsford, Hastings, Irvington & Tarrytown)
  9. May not be a bad idea to get these events hosted at a firehouse.
  10. Great Upperclass Dumba**es in their luxary SUVs driving around saying "I have 4WD & can go anywhere". Most of them don't realize 4wd gets you going but does nothing to help you stop. This will be a fun day.
  11. I saw the footage on snooze12 last night and it appeared to be a very good stop. Based on the footage there, shot from a roof of adjacent building, the WPFD did an awesome job. This appears it could have been gotten a lot worse very quickly.
  12. Watching the news conference. 19 Lts to be demoted to Firefighter. 20 FF and 2 officers current vacancies will not be filled but will be back filled by the above demotions. 6 uniformed and 1 adm civilian to be laid off. ALL FIREHOUSE ARE GOING TO REMAIN OPEN BUT THEY ARE REDUCING THE DEPT BY 1 Company
  13. Try Affordable's on Main Street in Dobbs Ferry. They are a childrens 2nd hand store. You might even get some $$ for them. Otherwise try some non profit day care centers.
  14. RIP. Heaven just became a little safer. Condolences from my family to his
  15. This has been addressed many times here and elsewhere. Even on the news some years ago they investigated the FDNY for it's SOGs for controlled interesections and they noted that the apparatus, even in full response mode of lights & sirens must stop at red lights. someone posted the statistics of LODDs in a prior post I started in January about 2008 LODDs. It noted that 20% of FF fatalities were from vehicle accidents. HOLY CRAP! Simple rule for all emergency services. We can't help the people we are responsible to help if we can't get there. Operators have a high degree of responsability for getting the rig there and the person in the officers seat has the responsability to remind the operator of that in addition to being the 2nd set of eyes. This is a team effort. Shrek
  16. Wasn't the Fannie Mae/Frannie Mac pressured into lowering standards for loan receipiants in 99 from the Clinton Administration? And Fannie/Freddie warned them of the ecomomic sideeffects that would occur in about 10 years from then? Scares the shi* out of me.
  17. hows about using a copter with bambi bucket or a master appliance address fires on the range so one does NOT have to put themselves into this minefield.
  18. What happens if MVFD is called somewhere like Eastchester or Scarsdale for m/a. What happens then, does the Vern strip the city of it's only truck? This not only affects MV but the surronding communities who req Mt. Vernon for m/a.
