  1. Charlie was a member of Hook & Ladder Co 1, Ladder 22, in Hastings for over 10 years. he will be missed by the entire community. He was my chauffer on the ambulance night call for a few years & before that we were alterboys together and in the scouts. god bless & rest in peace
  2. Riverdale is in the western side of the Bronx, along the shores of the Hudson and to Broadway on the East side. There is a small section of Manhattan that is on the "mainland", that is Marble Hill (the Bronx side of the Broadway Bridge). That is considered to be part of the boro of Manhattan.
  3. There was a 2nd alarm this morning at 135th Street & Broadway. Satelites are dispatched on the 2nd alarm as protocal.
  4. Hastings E46 is a 1984 Hahn with top mount pump, still in service as a front line engine. Also Nyack has an 84' as well, as a front line engine for Jackson Hose #3.
  5. It is extremely thoughtful of the NYC mayor and the people of the state of NY to take care of his family, especially with a bun in the oven. He gave the ultimate sacrifice and that should never be forgotten. But what about all the others from NY State who gave their lives, such as Wilfredo Urbina, also an active firefighter (vol) from Long Island, who was killed in the same incident as Engeldrum?? What does his family receive? If I died as a result of injuries sustained while performing my duties as a vol. firefighter, there are death benefits available, from the state, to my survivors. Did Albany address this in their resolution for Engeldrum's benefits? I think that if the state does it for one person, they should treat all firefighters (vol and paid) killed in military duty in the same manner, just be consistant. May all rest in peace and god watch their survivors.
  6. Auto insurance policies differ from carrier to carrier. I do not know of any specific requirement to advise the carrier that you are using your personal vehicle to respond to calls. If you are authorized to use a siren or red light on your auto, you should have you and your vehicle added onto your departments insurance policy. If you are in NY and have an accident in your POV, regardless of fault, most insurance companies will not make that a chargable accident against your policy to raise your rates (if they don't drop you). I am not sure on assigned risk policies.
