Telesquirt Trucks

Does anyone know how long the "telesquirts" have been around and who manufactures them? Were there or are there any of these rigs in service around the area?

yes there is still a rig in service and it is Millwood's 1982 eng. 245 formaly TS2 (telesquirt) it is still our first due out of station 1. It has a 50' stick with a 500gal booster. it is a kenworth E one

Mohegan Fire's Engine 250 was formally TS-3 prior to the county re designations.

LTI used make the telesquirt until bought out by American LaFrance. Now ALF is the manufacturer of the telesquirt.

Telesquirt was made by Snorkle not LTI. The product was first introduced around 1970 or 1971 and was available in 50ft. and 75ft. versions. Later 65ft. and 55ft. models were introduced. Snorkle was purchased by American Lafrance in the late 1990's.

In Orange County City of Port Jervis Engine 4(E-824) is the the only telesquirt. They run a 1999 American LaFrance 54' telesquirt. This replaced a 1975 50' American LaFrance telesquirt.

Many towns in NJ use the T/S very big thing in Essex Co but they have them in Bergen / Hudson Co's also.

Hey Cas, unfortunately a Snozzle is not a TeleSquirt, two different companies. Same concept but the Snozzle was mainly made for the ARFF. Really cool concept, Snozzle took it one step further.

Hey Cas, unfortunately a Snozzle is not a TeleSquirt, two different companies. Same concept but the Snozzle was mainly made for the ARFF.  Really cool concept, Snozzle took it one step further.

Snozzle is essentially an articulating boom that is mounted on an engine (as opposed to a ladder chassis) chassis. Is does not have a ladder attached to it. It typically has a piercing device at the tip which allows the apparatus to deliver a master stream through small openings such as an aircraft window.

TeleSquirt is typically a rear mounted boom with an escape ladder mounted on it like an Aerialscope. They are mounted on engine chassis and are compact and great for departments that need minimal aerial capacity but require the ability to establish an elevated master stream or effect a rescue / access a roof.

The most common telesquirt sizes are 50 and 55ft. They should not be confused with a dedicated ladder truck. They typically are equiped like an engine, and fill the box assignment as such. They typically do not carry enough ground ladders to qualify as a quint for those municipalities who have a quint designation.

This is why TS2 was rebadged as E-245 and TS3 was rebadged as E-250 in Westchester.

You can't forget Syracuse, New York (NY's only ISO 1 Dept.) all 10 engine companies run tele-squirts and many of the surrounding towns do too.

Just like MFC said. The Snozzle resembles more of a Squirt elevated master stream (See Philadelpha FD). The Snozzle was made with ARFF trucks in mind and I think was also developed in conjuction with the military (any Marines, Saliors, Soldiers or Airmen if you know if this is true I need to resolve this rumor) for airplane crashes. The industrial firefighters saw the advantage and adopted it along with using the Schwing devices. Several FD with airports and also old factories saw the advantage of using the device for structure fires.

Bridgeport, CT Engine 1 was ordered with one with the intent for the Sikorsky Memorial Airport but also saw the advantages in strutural firefighting. I saw the Snozzle used at a fire in the eastside and they could put that everywhere. They put the piercing rod through the roof and sides of the building to get into the cockloft and stuck the nozzle end into a window. A very versital tool.

I wouldn't be suprised to see more units with a snozzle pop up around the North East.

Stamford Fire Rescue ran telesquirts from the mid-70's to last year.

E-5: 1977 Hammerly 1000/500/50' telesquirt 1977 to 1993

E-4: 1974 Pierce 1000/500/50' telesquirt 1974 to 1988

E-4: 1988 Mack CF/Ranger 1000/500/50' telesquirt (boom from 1977 rig)

E-1: 1986 Pierce Arrow 1250/500/50' telesquirt (1996 to 1999)

All of these rigs became reserves and the final two were liquidated the end of last year. The squirts were great at major incidents as water towers but were not as good as aerials. In 1974 the city closed T-4 (1968 85' snorkel) and placed the squirt in service claiming it was a quint (and we know that was not the case). The station went from 6 to 5 men and one job was eliminated. When station #5 opened in 1977 they placed a squirt there as well (5 man staffing).

Today the squirts are gone and the department wide minimum, as of July 1, is 4 on all 11 rigs. Personal feeling...They were great assets to the department for the many years they served us.

Lake Carmel had a 1970 Mack CF TeleSqurt (the old 17-5-1, Ex FDNY E-70) from 1987-1992. It was sold to a department in PA, who in turn sold it to a department somewhere in Texas.

Orange CT Engine 32 is the same but I think it might be a '75 Mack, not sure. They had it rehabed back in the late 90's. Allingtown in West Haven CT had a Mack Tele 75', an exact copy of Old Saybrook's unit. Allingtown haded Pierce rehab it around '91 / '92. It was just recently replaced but I do not know what happened to that one. All great looking and usable rigs

Cliffside Park Has Pierce Dash Squirt & Edgewater Has a KME squirt on order I have also heard that Ridgefield Co 1 is looking at a squirt to replace RF 1 's 1981 Hahn BTW all 3 towns are in East Bergen

In my recent visit to New Orleans following the huricane I noticed several of there front line pieces were Tele squirts. All were on American La France rigs and were of the 55 foot variety.
