Even better job done by the Queens Dispatchers getting everything covered.

Posting was easy. I didn't have to pull 40 apperatus and still cover a borough. Another good job by FDNY dispatchers.

Excellent post of run down.

Glad everybody got out safe, saw some footage of this job, and it took off with the winds gusting. Also ignited a house adjacent to the fire building due to flying embers.

Some board readers not familiar with FDNY should realize ( not you JBE !!) that this job was in a area of Queens, whose access is limited due to being on a peninsula ( The Rockaways). This meant that response times into the box for companies above the 3rd alarm, are coming from more of a distance than a normal 3-3 company. That is the reason that the Queens dispatchers used some relocated truck companies on the 4th alarm to respond to the box, as well as 2 relocated Battalion chiefs. It is not unprecendented by any means, but highly unusual to have ("re-locators") at the same job as the company they are covering.

Also kudos to the 3 dispatchers that worked the radio during the job. they did an excellent job on the air and behind the scenes.

E328 is in the same house with E264 and L-134 (The Big House). You may have read the other end of Rockaway with E329 all by themself.

Just an FYI

How does it work with two Engines in the same house?

As far as the Rockaways goes, they are quite isolated. Anytime you catch a job down there, all the houses must be filled with relocators with the exception of one engine in the big house. It isn't uncommon to see relocators acting as a company at the fire operating at the fire as well. (Example Ladder 111 acting 107 operating at the job) We just backfill with more relocators. I sent at least 2 and 2 and a BC over the bridge into Queens. The longest run being Engine 90 to Engine 311, which even at that time of night is quite a haul. One of the things about relocations, which is an imperfect science is to get units into the uncovered areas as quickly as possible. Best way to go about it, especially when doing interborough moves is to get the units closest to a bridge over it, and then onto the highways/main drags. Then backfill from your own borough using the main drags. With the Rockaways, there's only three ways in and out, so it gets a little tricky.

Depending on where the job is in the Rockaways, they are waiting for E-314 coming from near the city line in Rosedale, and that's a long run. They actually have to go into Nassau County and then come back in to the city. Same for Ladder 158. They usually come in as 4th Engine and FAST truck.

As far as the big house assignments are concerned, certain boxes going one way 264 is first due with 328 being second, and vice versa going the other way. When it comes to 329 at the other end of the Rockaways, it depends on how far into Breezy Point it is. It's a straight, yet long run for both the second due Engine (309 from Brooklyn or 268 from Rockaway), and Trucks(137 or 159 from Brooklyn).

PS to top all of this off, Brooklyn had at least one job going while I sat in the Bronx twiddling my thumbs and wondering how we were going to get things done if we got whacked with something heavy.

The female dispatcher (46) was the boss, we worked together in Manhattan back in the day when she was Disp. 420, and I was Disp. 408, and got promoted together in 04. She's one of my closest friends in the job. The other two have about two and two 1/2 yrs on the job respectively. She was and still is a hell of a radio dispatcher and 706 has come a loooong way and improved to a point of being damn good.
