Boston Firefighters Critically Hurt In Fire

Roof Of Restaurant Collapses

POSTED: 10:05 pm EDT August 29, 2007

UPDATED: 11:07 pm EDT August 29, 2007

BOSTON -- Two Boston firefighters were critically injured Wednesday night in a fire in West Roxbury.

The fire broke out just before 9 p.m. at the Tai Ho restaurant at 1727 Centre St. and quickly went to four alarms.

Five other firefighters suffered less serious injuries.

The firefighters were trapped when an air conditioning unit fell through the roof of the building.

Five firefighters were taken to Brigham and Women's Hospital, one to Faulkner Hospital and another to Beth Israel Deaconess.

Firefighters could be seen administering CPR as one was rushed into a waiting ambulance.

The fire spread to a floral company and a pet grooming business. Boston Mayor Thomas Menino arrived at the fire scene after 10 p.m, but then left to go to one of the hospitals.

NewsCenter 5 and TheBostonChannel.com will have more information as it becomes available.

2 Boston Firefighters were killed in the Line of Duty this evening at a commercial building fire. The fire went to four-alarms in West Roxbury. It started around 2100 in the Hi Ho Chinese Restaurant and spread to nearby stores. Initial reports indicate that firefighters were inside the building when there was a collapse that involved a roof air conditioner unit. The Firefighters were from E-30 and L-25.

R.I.P. Brothers...........

I heard the news when my alarm went off and I instantly thought of my brothers/sisters in Boston...may the fallen rest in peace knowing their jobs are done. May god be with the injured and speed them to a full recovery. My heart goes out to the families both at home and in the station, may they take comfort knowing their loved ones passed doing what they loved.

All My best to my Boston Brothers/Sisters...

Moose

May they Rest in peace and may the lord help the family and friends of the Brothers.

This sounds just like what happened in the Bronx to Lieutenant Howard Carpluk of Engine 42 and Probationary Firefighter Michael Reilly of Engine 75 on August 27.
