State Police zone sergeant dies while shoveling snow

Monroe – The State Police Troop F zone sergeant at the Monroe Barracks collapsed and died while shoveling snow at his home New Paltz, a State Police Troop F Commander Major Ed Raso said.

Sgt. Warner Hein, who was the zone sergeant at the Monroe Barracks and was with the State Police for 20 years, was shoveling snow around 7:30 a.m. today when he collapsed and died of an apparent heart attack, the spokesman said.

Hein was 44 years old and the brother of Ulster County Administrator Michael Hein.

He was the State Police liaison for the Hassidic Village of Kiryas Joel and well liked and respected in the greater Monroe community. “He was a very likeable guy; a very capable guy,” said Major Raso. “He was the prototypical supervisor to be a liaison to any type of community.”
