Greenville's New Squad Support Unit 15

19 posts in this topic

The new Greenville Squad Support Unit 15 looks like it has been completed by Ferrara!

I don't know where the number 15 came from. Greenville is a part of Squad 6, and their current Rescue is Rescue 29, which I thought this was replacing. Is Greenville in Battalion 15?

Is Greenville in Battalion 15?

Greenville is in Batt. 18.

The 15 may have come from the 150, 151 series number the GFD runs for its Engines.

Function is to tow the collapse Task Force Trailer (replacing the previous utility).

Don't Know

To my knowledge no members are assigned, it is considered a 2nd piece.

>Chirp Chirp Chirp<

No one knows what this apparatus will respond on (will it respond on Greenville calls or task force calls only?). Also, no one knows why it was numbered the way it was.

SteveOFD probaly guessed best, but I'm suprised with all the Greenville people on here not one can enlighten us. Why is everything in Westchester such a "top secret"?

How can no one have any idea what this truck is for or who is going to man it?

I would have thought that a new truck delivery would have been big news.

Go back to my previous post

It only big news to buffs

And that's ME! :D

OK, thanks to a friend for the update:

SSU-15 will carry most, if not all, the equipment from the current trailer. The trailer would be used to carry additional cribbing, etc. It will be staffed "cross floor" as needed on tech rescue assignments, but it may be staffed 24/7 somewhere down the line.

The number does come from the Engine numbering scheme, as mentioned above.

I know they have been used only for a short time, but I have to say that I am so sick of the chevrons on the back of ambulances and fire apparatus. I realize they are NFPA requirements now, but they really take away from the classiness of a piece of fire apparatus and they are very distracting to look at.

That is a nice looking rig nonetheless.

Technically they are not required now.

NFPA 1901, Standard for Automotive Fire Apparatus, 2009 Edition states "1.3.1 This standard shall apply to new fire apparatus that meet the following criteria:...

(3) That are contracted for on or after January 1, 2009."

"1.3.2 Nothing shall prevent the use of the standard prior to January 1, 2009 if the purchaser and contractor both agree."
