Suffern General Alarm Fire 02/05/09

17 posts in this topic

Half of the 26 Rockland County Departments & Mahwah and Ramsey, NJ were eventually called out to this fire last night in Suffern at 15 Washington Circle. The call came in at 2003 hours and was declared a working fire about a minute later as this building is a half a block down the street from the firehouse. It was a bitter cold night and the fire was fed by a ton of fuel with numerous explosions. The fire was fought all through the night and into the early morning hours. Suffern signed off just after 7AM after the building was demolished.

It was a large garage for a construction business with, 4-5 commercials vehicles inside, gasoline, welding equipment, office space. Square footage was reported as 40,000

Where are the rest of Suffern's rigs? Looks like Mawah had as much equipment there as Suffern.

Our tiller is only in limited service due to major issues with the ground jacks, and one of the Hose Co's engines was OOS for PM/repairs that day. We called an engine and ladder from Mahwah Co 1 right away, then as the incident progressed they asked for the Tower ladder from Co 2. As I said 40,000 square feet, over one city block both of Mahwah's aerials were positioned on the B/C side to protect the residential exposures.
