Correct. It was Union Hose Company until 1926. When they moved to the current house on Webster Ave.

Putnam County

Pretty sure that is the Old Carmel Firehouse, that is now the Knights of Columbus.... if my detective work is correct with identifying the cross on the side of the building and doing a search for KofC in Putnam County and getting the google street view of the front.

If memory serves this was also used by Carmel VAC, prior to building their own quarters.

I think it may have been used by the vac as well for a short period of time I'll have to ask one of the older members. I know that besides the station we're at now on garrett place we've also been on fowler ave.

That was old station 6 NRFD. Even though it was on North Ave it was referred to as the Mill Rd station.

Putnam County

A bit of a reverse of what became of the Firehouse, this is more of "what became a Firehouse".

I am trying to find a photo of it from back then, but the present day Carmel Fire House was originally a Grand Union Supermaket. It was a supermaket until the late '60s. The Department bought it and converted it in the mid to late '70s to what it is today.

Because at one time there were 2 fire houses on North Ave, Station 6 in the previous pictures was know as the Mill Rd fire house and Station 3 at North Ave and Eastchester Rd was/is known as the Eastchester Rd fire house.

When I was assigned to Station 3 I would tell people I worked at the Eastchester Rd fire house.

I can see why they stopped using it as a fire house. It must have been extremely difficult getting the rigs in and out of the building. Having that big tree in front of the bays !!!!

BFD1054 and efermann like this

The Commissioners Bldg was home to Carmel 406 (Someone explain that) for more then a "short period of time"
