I honestly can't see any drawbacks to this at all.

The fire service used to have many companies in a city with firehousesspread out, because the horses and steamers could only go so fast. This evolved in modern day fire companies.

There's a place for heritage and pride, but their also needs to be a place for progress.

Best quote from that article:

Pensky suggests a model for one department where all firefighters can work out of any house.

“If you look at FDNY or any city which has multiple firehouses, all the policies, procedures, leaderships and trucks are the same,” Pensky said. “They can assign them to a different (company) and it wouldn’t matter because everything’s the same. That’s what should be here. So the number one benefit to the residents? Volunteer response.”
