While maybe not much was happening in York, not regularly a hotbed of criminal activity, I do empathize with the firefighter. My Cairns New Yorker was stolen years ago and while I have had many other helmets, that one in particular was with me at some of my most memorable fires. I would have preferred to have it on my shelf when I stopped answering the alarms.

As I understand the article, the helmet was in the fire house when it was stolen. Are they thinking that someone broke into the fire house to steal the helmet?

That's some salty Explorer. I see he purchased the helmet with the extra salt package which includes melted bourkes and for show only wrap behind chin strap.

It sucks to lose something of such value. Hopefully it will reappear or someone will show up at the fire house saying that they found it on the side of the road. I know of a few times when helmets have literally fallen of rigs.
