  1. TMC

I imagine the people who work at TMC have a difficult job, and aren't paid enough. Hey "everyonegoes", how's that workin' out for you, acclimating to a Forum of brother and sister firefighters, cops and medics? And you wouldn't want to work with them? lol Quick story down here in FLA. I called from my mobile while driving the 18 Mile Stretch through the Everglades because a rage roader drove into the back right corner of a slower car on the one lane highway. About two minutes later, a Florida State Police chopper was hauling *ss up the highway to take down the crazed motorist, who continued all the way out of my sight speeding on the shoulder. Got to Florida City....they had HER in cuffs! Strangely the woman's car had Michigan tags on it. Thanks whoever answered my call. You probably saved a life or two. Now that's good service.
  2. Rep given for capturing a great Bronx company's rig in a great Bronx neighborhood.
  3. And as such, you are hear-by precluded from any more anti-Giants comments. Matter of fact, after yesterday (aside from the Giants eliminating the defending Super Bowl Champions) all those affiliated with pro football in the state of Texas; your golfing season officially began statewide yesterday thanks to Baltimore taking out the Texas Houstons...err Houstas Teaxans...ah it don't matter. They're gone too.
  4. "Mr. Jeffrey Drew Wilschke...please step forward." "Uhhh your honor, that used to be my name, but it's been legally changed." "Well then, what is it son? Out with it. WHAT IS YOUR NAME NOW?" http://www.cityofmadison.com/incidentreports/incidentDetail.cfm?id=12902 http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/01/06/beezow-doo-doo-zopittybop_n_1190410.html
  5. with a 12 gauge shotgun. And the poor girl's husband had just passed away on Christmas Day! http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/01/04/mom-kills-intruder_n_1183336.html?ref=mostpopular
  6. The chief's answer is a classic example of an outdated fire service mentality. C'mon man!
  7. Agreed. It really should be part of the past. However, to balance that out a bit, I have to say in my career I witnessed scenes where manpower in southern Westchester was so sparse and to add ignorance to top it off, the first company to arrive and work hardest and longest, was left on it's own, after additional companies came in, and were allowed to go back into service, while that beat first in company was last to leave. Poor leadership at times. I remember having been in that situation personally, and was so tired to get into the rack as a firefighter I'd pass out before I hit the pillow. Worry about rekindles? lol Then after I got made; eyes wide open, laying in the bunk, long after everybody else, exhausted, asleep and snoring, going over every detail as best I could. Now fires could never be out enough. On another note, "Rekindle" wasn't it kind of a routine sounding of an alarm during war years in urban areas? I guess that would be number 2 on your multi-choice Cap.
  8. Makes WAY too much sense Mike. Happy New Year!
  9. Don't change your name, it's the longest name in the history of EMTBravo....
  10. Thanks for all the answers guys. Ran out of reps for today.
  11. I'm sure most of you have noticed the explosion of armed robberies at pharmacies across America. I read the heart-breaking story of the ATF Agent killed in the latest one in NY. If you missed it; ATF agent killed in pharmacy robbery was picking up cancer drugs for dad: http://www.nypost.com/p/news/local/atf_agent_killed_drugs_pharmacy_Nfr2nKbBG6WmsPbdcQfiiP#ixzz1iSiTTMGf God Rest, total tragedy as it seems like a friendly fire incident. This is what happens when a perp walks in and robs a place; even with a plastic toy gun that looks very real. I remember reading about a pharmacy robbery spree in Myrtle Beach earlier in 2011. Some freak robbed a few CVS's before they finally tracked him down and locked him up. Luckily nobody was injured or killed during this sick man's robbery spree. At one of his heists, he actually jumped out the drive-up window to escape. Then I find THIS joker today in the news out of Gaithersburg, Md: http://www.myfoxdc.com/dpp/news/local/man-disguised-in-bandages-robs-gaithersburg-cvs-pharmacy-on-christmas-eve-010312 This seems to be a growing epidemic; an exploding crime wave across the country. Down here in Florida, with the New Year, the state enacted a PDMP, making it the 48th State to have a monitoring program. We had "pill mills" down here, up in Broward, and Miami-Dade counties. So, they pass this law to go after these big operations, and you know what they did? The pill mills picked up operations.....and moved across state lines into Georgia. Pill Mills are feeding a drug fueled frenzy of "Hillbilly Heroin" that helped prescription drug overdose, overtake car crashes as the number one cause of accidental deaths in the country for the year 2011. It seems to be a growing problem, and I'm posting this info to give our Brothers/Sisters in Blue just a friendly reminder to keep your heads up around those innocuous looking, but possibly very dangerous CVS's, Walgreens, and these Mom and Pop pharmacies, like the one the ATF Agent lost his life at the other day. Seems to me a simple solution would be to start retrofitting these pharmacies with glass enclosures; like bank teller windows. But that would cost corporate America $$$, so they'll let it go on until the point of tragic ridiculousness, public outrage, or legislation. Don't count on the latter anytime soon. One crime problem dissolves, and another seems to grow in it's place. Stay safe out there, these people are so hooked they'll pull off acts of desperation; that wind up with more people getting killed. Let's pray that 2012 is less tragic for our Brother/Sister Police Officers. God knows 2011 was a disaster. But something has to be done with these pharmacies; fortify them or something. What do the LE members here think?
  12. A mile of supply line? That's quite a distance. Hate to be the poor probies tasked with picking it up, especially if it was icy. How many pumpers were used in that line, or how was it structured with pools, tankers, etc? Thank you for any additional info you could provide. Or anybody else wants to pipe in here, please feel free, especially if you were there, and your fingers have thawed enough to be able to type. I agree with the recent poster who talked about using Class A foam to "stretch" that water supply. Very good post. None of this is meant as MMQBing ( but get ready for somebody to post "we've posted about this before!" lol
  13. Want to wish Chief Fitzpatrick the greatest health and happiness in his retirement after 32 stellar years on the job. God Bless you Chief. He is also being honored in 2012: http://www.grandcouncilofemeralds.org/2012irishmanoftheyear.html
  14. Regarding the site's editing policy, I'd just like to observe how the process has changed over time: USED TO BE: *You could delete any of your posts, anytime you felt like it. This apparently disrupted the flow of the threads, so it was eliminated. *You could edit your posts going back in time with no limits. *Used to be if you edited, it was a note at the bottom of the post. NOW: *There's an "edit window" where you get a chance to correct or reword for a limited amount of hours. *If God forbid, you DO edit you weasel, it looks like a big dirty pencil eraser that says "edited by such and such" in bold letters. *So think twice before you edit. It's obviously frowned upon. You weasel. lol Edit: I admit it, I've edited!

  16. Mike, you started an interesting conversation. I like the chief's differentiation between a buff and a free lancer. Hmmm...I'm thinking I am in a weird position as a result of you raising the question. Gotta work through this (lol): I: *Carry old gear in my truck, a decent sized extinguisher, and a crow-bar. *With the miles put on the southern Interstates of this great land, a car fire could be an urgent call for a good samaratan and I've not passed a motorist in obvious distress. *Do have the good sense to stay far away when the Brothers are anywhere near. Not getting in the way is a priority for my truck company (I drive a Tahoe lol). *Wondered if I qualified as a free-lancer, in that I'm out on the FREEway...so I had to check out what a "lancer" is: From Dictionary.com: Lanc·er   [lan-ser, lahn-] noun: a cavalry soldier armed with a lance................ *Conclude I am not a free-lancer. Edit: sorry I used to be a class clown, it's a hard habit to let go of....please return to the serious topic at hand.
  17. I'm going to agree that the emphasis of this discussion should be forward enough looking to make standardization of radio equipment in the "somehow that's impossible" County of Westchester. IF I had a dollar for every time I heard one particular gent, involved supposedly with all things radio on the County level, announce a new radio initiative that was going to bring all fire departments together on portables, blah blah..... Somebody else mentioned this to still be a problem, now it's about inter operable accountability, in the County. To this I say shame on the involved parties and the vendors who play radio games like cell phone service providers play different pricing plan games. And in the end, you somehow wind up with something that doesn't quite fit the billing. Seen it too many times.
  18. Cap, Could these different response levels be based historically in the "downtown" village being the commercial space with the highest potential for catastrophic losses... I remember somebody from Ossining posting a black and white photo of a store fire in the "downtown" village I think on Spring Street... {if I remember from my years as a student in the Ossining School System where I used to cut class and hang out at a pinball parlor. This was 1978 and semi-urban discontent was rampant in Ossining High School. It was so bad I chose the pin-ball parlor because it felt safer than the hallways and some classrooms of OHS.) Ossining feels like a city down there. I imagine back 30-40 years ago, the number of rigs responding reflected the responding manpower in a significant way. Now? What district, village, city has rigs that directly reflect proper staffing levels? Most do not. But I have digressed, I was just wondering about the different response level and wondering if it might be a historic thing because of the commercial space.
  19. qunaity: This IS the correct spelling of the word on the fireground in the great New York area. Edit: meaning how it is spoken.
  20. http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/madonna-badger-spared-details-fire-killed-3-daughters-amp-parents-article-1.997268 A salute to Mr. Lomer Johnson. A tear for Ms. Madonna Badger and the extended family. A prayer for these children taken so young, and an elderly couple the Johnsons, whose last act on earth would be one of heroism and selflessness.
  21. I read that article too Chris. It was very moving. The most vivid description they gave was of the police lined up and saluting up from the LIRR platform. One of the daughters glanced up and saw that. She'll always remember that glimpse, for the rest of her life. 20,000. Respect that speaks for itself. The newspaper that helped organize and get the word out about the Fund, is to be commended in this instance. That news traveled far and overseas, and generated a response.
  22. Agree totally chief. The guy is a legend, well known beyond the boundaries of New York City, from media coverage, his participation in the pipe band, the parades, he always made himself available for a funny conversation. Just have to point out I got my spelling of his name off the pipes and drums website. A legend's name must be passed along proper spelled. Like.............Nechis. lol
  23. Yes. lol Not very far at all. Unless your job wants to train and equip you with Tasers, stand back and watch them fly. He could take you with him as he's bailing out. Edit: On second thought the Taser probably isn't a good idea either. Might just piss him off further and he'll direct the aggression at you. Stay well.
