  1. would be a real nice truck if it were red & white it has very low mileage and engine hours
  2. C'mon O'Brien the real truth to the point's green is that it was the only color that would cover the blue & gray of the con Ed Truck you used as your snorkel. LOL
  3. Slightly off the topic but - has anyone seen the Archille CHief's car (Chevy Trailblazer) I am curious as to where they mounted the radios and such.
  4. changed 10 fold since I worked for Whelen.
  5. Curious here, is there going to be some type of protective cover placed over the electrical components near the tool storage, I can see an inadvertent contact between the haligan and what appears to be a circuit breaker. As for warning lights everyone has there own opinion regarding the type, rotator, strobe, led etc. I think you see most departments going to LED based on the amp draw although they are still a little more expensive, they also last much longer if I remember correctly they are supposed to last 10,000 hrs at a steady burn rate.
  6. Thank you Wheel, I have known his dad for over 20 years.
  7. As much as I hate to do this I have to agree with both of you, Billy and Jimbo. A goo driver can make a well maintaned rig dance, heck even do gymnastics (he said sarcastically).
  8. Rest in Peace brother. My heartfelt sympathy to his family and co workers at MVPD. Was this officer any relation to the Lt from New Castle PD?
  9. Sorry John, can't help you with that one. Believe it or not it was a firehouse when I was born, maybe we can check withour dept historian he might know.
  10. Congratulations to you adn you rsife. I hoep baby & mom are doing well. Enjoy him.
  11. Thanks Kfire, I figured it was a larger tanke based upon the hose bed height and knowing your district doesn'y have alot of those hydrant things.
  12. Nice rig Adam, good luck with it. How big is the booster tank 750 or 1000?
  13. Steve Montrose switched to fire 10 on a trial basis, they switched back to 46.26 due to severla dead areas in their district. No radio system is 100%.
  14. Very nice rig, just wondering which compartment do you keep the Good Humor, just kidding don't go getting your panties in a bunch.
  15. When I was on zone 4 we had a perfect mix 3 cops 3 firefighters actually one of us was both, I am not sure what the makeup of most of the teams are now since I have not been involved for several years. I know training wise you must have the 80 hour course minimum. AS for the chain of evidence, members are trained in that during the 80 hour course and most members go above & beyond the minimum training taking some of the other investigative courses. As for the zones and who is on the teams check the DES website it lists all 5 teams. There are 2 deputy coordinators assigned to the C&O teams, car 24 has zones 4 & 5 and car 25 has zones 1, 2 & 3. I hope this helps a little. For info on getting onto a team contact one of the deputy coordinators.
  16. Congrats Tom. I am proud to have you for a friend and colleague, I always find your posts informative and yes old people like me still can learn that's why you may find me at the FTC taking courses or training with my dept. I had know idea you were a jarhead, I always knew there was something about you I didn't like. Only kidding I have the utmost respect for those brave men & women that serve our great country, past, present & future. Congrats again Tommy.
  17. JAck that was actually Billy on the radio, and fire cap32 what about me, don't want me around for a long time? LOL Like fire cap said where your seat belt, it really shouldn't have to be a law or a department policy, it should be common sense and another skill that we must do.
  18. Tanker10engr - you forgot to mention that your partner (driver -me) was not wearing a seatbelt, had I been I would not have landed on you. I have been wearing a seatbelt all the time since that day and I won't move the rig until everyone else is belted. The reason I never wore a belt is based on the legislation of the great state of NY when they wrote the law, foolishly they exempted emergency service vehicles. There is no reason in the world not to wear a belt, the driver & officer should ensure all are belted before the rig moves. Let's try to cut down on the approxiamtely 25 unnecessary fatalaties we experience annually in MVA's with apparatus, wear belts, slow down, stay alive, remember "Everyone goes Home"
  19. Oh Hudson always thinking, that's what I love about you! Could this result in some openings?
  20. reagrding a post above, nothing beats being a dad, I think being a grandpa to 2 beautiful grandaughters is pretty darn great as well, c'mon some of you older guys chime in here! Congrats Chief. Be careful he may grow up to be a Chief and you will have to serve under him (which by the way is also a tremendous honor)
  21. I agree with you ALS on that recent boat accident, more boats were not the answer, better communications from the east & west sides of the river would have helped. In the end it all worked out as it usually does and I don't think it would have changed the outcome for the fatal victim, but communications should would have helped with tracking the other 4 victims. Possibly if the exact location was known earlier things may have turned out differently for the deceased, but we will never know. But of course my ramblings here are of the topic of this forum.
  22. When did it become the manufacturer's job to maintain apparatus? Unless that was in the contract, isn't it the department's obligation to maintain their apparatus?
  23. All I can say is that I am proud of the fact that way back in 1986 I with the assistance of my asst chief wrote up and put in place a mandatory mask (SCBA) policy which pretty much required an scba for just about everything except brush fires which is still on the books and our safety smart firefighters wear them and then of course there are those that believe they have "leather lungs". Please look at photos like this and use them as a training tool so you always go home. Safety (yours/ours) is the number 1 priority - ALWAYS!!!!!!
  24. If you want a pic of Brewsters tower it is normally parked on the die of their HQ with the falg on it and normally does not appear in their parade. yes the parade is thrusday someone already gave you the route and the start time is 1900 hrs.
  25. first off it should not be a members choice, the Chief should just not allow it at all for any reason. Secondly the the gentleman that wrote something about training for the Chiefs, they just can't teach common sense, either you got it or you don't. Chief's/officer's elections unfortunately are a popularity thing more so then electing people that are actually qualified to do the job. I will admit I have been around for a while and have done some stupid stuff and fortunately I am still here to think back on what we used to do and how some changes have made things safer for all of us. It hurts enough to loose a firefighter in the LOD but losing one because of stupidity is immoral. A question for those departments that allow members to ride the back step or even the top of a hosebed - Do you guys still wear the 3/4 boots, rubber coats and those wonderful fireball gloves? I think we all need to look out for each other's safety career or volunteer.
