  1. I think that's a croosband link to 33.96, not 46.06.
  2. Braun also made a longer version called the SLFEA-one BIIIIG sucker. Ossining VAC used to run a couple. And darn it, Braun's website no longer lists slantside buses. End of an era.
  3. Pots354: In twenty years of service, I have lost friends, colleagues and been notified of the deaths of utter strangers, all in EMS, stemming from many causes. These people have been shot, stabbed, died from AIDS/Hepatitis contracted from an OTJ exposure, died in MVAs, had buildings fall on them, died from respiratory ailments contracted from breathing in deadly fumes and particles, killed themselves due to depression, or otherwise faded away because of what we do. Don't you DARE disgrace their memory, of the friends I've lost, of those LODD funerals I've gone to, of the notices that have gone out and STILL choke me up in front of my monitor when I read them. You want to be a stupid, ignorant little piece of insignificant material in your little corner of the sandbox, feel free. But don't trivialize our loss. Do us all a favor. Keep your half-a$$ed opinions where they belong. Rattling around in your empty little pointy head.
  4. Now 46.26 is REALLY gonna $uck.........just kidding, congratulations!
  5. I wouldn't toss lidocaine away so quickly. I've had far more success in converting with lido than with amiodarone.....call me old school, but a fair number of other s agree with me too!
  6. From Billy's post: "I got a laugh from The Journal News article on this incident in Sunday's paper. The headline was "budding graffiti artist" killed. They made it sound like he was the next Picasso! What ashame!!" So, could we say this one got nipped in the bud?
  7. My New Year's Resolutions: Cleaning up some bad habits. 1) Stop holding signals....well, maybe less often. 2) Try this Plain English thing on the radio...like I was speaking in Croatian before....maybe get my unit number correct more too. 3) Sedation BEFORE intubation...even if they pi$$ me off. 4) Stop telling relatives we're "welding" Grandpa's chest....and I guess yelling "Clear....shock the monkey"....has gotta stop as well. 5) Prophylactic IV's on whiners. Large ones. Now a no-no. 6) Stop writing "Eat Me" with Betadine on the chest of unconcious drunks for the nurses to find when they undress 'em. Very tacky. 7) Stop sucking on alcohol swabs between calls. Red eyes, unsteady gait.....it's gotta undermine the public's trust in me. 8) Stop slamming patients with Lasix for that comical "transient deafness" thing, even though it's killer funny. 9) Paint thinner in the bosses's Tucks.....No mas. And #10) Walking into frequent flyer's houses, squinting at them, and asking, "Weren't you dead the last time I came here?".
  8. My attempt at humour: Q: How were James Brown and Saddam Hussein alike? A: Both were well hung. Bwaaahahahahahaha.
  9. Northern West still has their HEAR radio working-try bringing in one without a heads-up! Putnam's HEAR radio works on 155.340 instead of .220-works real well. I'm pretty sure St. John's HEAR works-does Lawrence or St. Joe's still work?
  10. You could also try an isolation filter (like a Kenwood KLF-2) instead of a plain choke inline between the scanner and the battery. Try shielded CAT-5 instead of the supplied cable as well.
  11. As President of the Westchester Jewish Paramedics Association, I approve of the theme. And if anybody DOES object.... Lighten up, Francis. Seriously, safe, happy, healthy and gut-busting holiday to all.
  12. As long as the Nextel network is functional...which as we all know, is down in some areas more than its up.
  13. As a Jew....I'm NOT offended.. Actually, he was pretty good. I wanted to buy a camera from him, he sounded so authentic, like a real landesman. Mr. "I'm-all-offended", maybe you should get a life. Ya schlub.
  14. Some torrential rain....and then a really nice moonlit end to my Friday PM tour. Big whoop.....no tornado hitting Heritage Hills, with hundreds of screaming gomers swept aloft and scattered across Rte 202. THAT would be sparky.
  15. I've used it twice. Both patients did not have ROSC....so I can't relate any success. Both were elderly, with 10+ minute down times. Anecdotally, I don't know of anyone that has stated that it made a difference.
  16. NYCOMCO used to handle all of OVAC's radio needs, when we used to have all GE radios. Then, when they went Moto we went with MetroCom, back when Mike Lester and his guys ran the north branch. Then, they knew radios and the customer service was excellent. However, it seems that MetroCom has been taken over by Stefan and his extended family, and no one has anything good to say about them. the front office is horrible, with the staff having nasty, unhelpful attitudes, and if you have a complaint, they treat you as if you just shat yourself in their presence. Ask Somers about the cheapo thrown-together lowband base Metro sold them (and that they forced them to take back!), or any of the other horror stories about having MetroCom install mobiles in their new engines.
  17. gettin' down with the venison.......
  18. I have a bunch of the trooper-style NYS Paramedic patch decals......inside and outside mount. PM me if ya want one.
  19. Let the malcontents go out and start their own sites. Which will probably suck a$$. And if any of those LOSERS want to talk to me personally, to express their LOSER opinions, PM me. Be happy to pound some sense into you. Seth, Bravo ROCKS.......always has, back in the day and even now. If these jerks had a clue as to what makes up a good site....where are their 5000 member sites? Those who can, do. Those who can't, whine about EMTBravo.
  20. God bless the guys who gave all, those who continue to serve, and God help those who fail to appreciate what they do, cause I'll kick their a$$es should they express their worthless opinions in my presence. Sorry, little hostile there, but if you don't support vets and active duty folks, stay the hell away from me if you start spouting off yer particular brand of BS.
  21. IMHO: If your organization is going to allow first response, then create some rules like: 1) EMT 1st responders should have AEDs, O2 and enough stuff to make it a good idea to have them go in the first place. Only letting those folks with a clue do this sort of thing....that too. Test and educate them on a regular basis. Less embarassment that way. 2) Law enforcement gets there first, hopefully. If not, then stage away. depending on the call nature....because I have seen too many morons charge into calls for EDP's, injuries due to assaults or domestics, or overdoses. Run towards the cliff, ya lemmings....I'll be posted over here, with my Caffeine Free Diet Pepsi. 3) Limit how many show up on a scene. 66Alpha hit the proverbial nail on the head. 14 first responders is a bit much. OK, too fluckin' much.
  22. Jeez.... They're big, often red and make a lot of noise.....so they don't stay secret for too long...... Besides, I have it on good authority that Al Quaida has an inside line into most apparatus manufacturers anyways. Damn terrorists. Posting about our rigs before WE get to do it. Will democracy endure?
  23. This is from MSNBC concerning "fugazy" test strips. Keep an eye out for any in your patient population. From MSNBC Updated: 6:49 p.m. ET Oct 13, 2006 WASHINGTON - The government warned diabetics Friday to watch for counterfeit versions of test strips commonly used to monitor blood sugar levels. The test strips, for use in glucose monitors made by a Johnson & Johnson company, were distributed nationwide, the Food and Drug Administration said in a public alert. The phony test strips are for use with various models of LifeScan Inc.’s OneTouch brand of blood glucose monitors. LifeScan is part of New Brunswick, N.J.-based Johnson & Johnson. The counterfeit test strips could give incorrect blood glucose values, leading patients to take too little or too much insulin and suffer injury or death, the FDA said. The agency said it hasn’t received any such reports. Diabetics who purchased the counterfeit test strips should stop using them, replace them immediately and call a doctor, the FDA said. The counterfeits are: OneTouch Basic/Profile, lot numbers 272894A, 2619932 and 2606340. OneTouch Ultra, lot number 2691191. The FDA is investigating but did not know how many of the counterfeits were sold, an agency spokeswoman said. They were distributed nationwide but primarily in Ohio, New York, Florida, Maryland and Missouri by Medical Plastic Devices Inc., of Quebec, Canada, and Champion Sales Inc., of Brooklyn, N.Y., the FDA said. The alert came a day after LifeScan said it was voluntarily recalling one lot of its SureStep Pro test strips (lot number 2634187008) and a single lot of its OneTouch SureStep test strips (lot number 2627353). The lots contain some test strips that don’t give proper confirmation readings, the company said.
  24. Fun in Syracuse? 1) Watch the polar bears wander through the courtyard of your motel. 2) Go to some of the skankiest strip clubs this side of West Kentucky. 3) At the conference, compete to find the most Long Island whackers wearing squad jumpsuits, three pagers, two portables and various scissors/clamps/dohickeys. 4) Stop in at the Ferno booth, stare at the stretchers, and ask the rep "What are these for?" 5) Go to Dinosaur BBQ and order a grilled cheese sandwich.
  25. I looked, but where does the race car fit in? Ladders, hoses, buckets........what about the race car?
