While we don't generally publicly discuss site administrative actions and behind the scenes decisions, once again, EMTBravo staff were left with little choice other than to remove an interesting topic that started with much good and constructive commentary and offered a platform as a valuable learning experience, but had nonetheless degenerated into individuals hurling personal insults and cross-profession (PD / FD) attacks.
We don't appreciate it when certain members find it impossible to temper their remarks and causes us to take down what subsequently had become a controversial topic, in order to maintain civility.
We are not a rant-board, and don't want to become a rant-board. There are plenty of those out there.
We encourage our members to continue to share relevant current event news articles and general interest stories, and also to report topics containing postings that they feel violate forum posting rules, such as bashing Paid vs Vollie, Cops vs Fire, or portray those professions in a derogatory tone, or for any other issues. Those reports are reviewed by our staff and offending postings will be moderated or removed as deemed necessary.

Cinder block exterior walls in buildings with self supporting steel truss flat roofs sometimes fail as a result of the heat from a fire causes the trusses to sag which shifts the downward roof load from a vertical to a horizontal plane, and the weight bearing wall columns can't sustain that thrust.

For those of you have not seen The Guys, I would recommend you go see The Armonk Players perform this play. Dates are September 9, 10 & 11, 2011, 8PM @ Whippoorwill Hall, 19 Whippoorwill Road East, Armonk, NY.
The story of a Fire Captain who lost eight men in the collapse of the World Trade Center and the civilian editor who helps him prepare the eulogies he must deliver. See this trailer from the movie. This is a powerful story and it will remember it for quite a while.
Featured in this play is Dick Nagle (ret. FDNY Lt. & Croton FD Ex-Chief)). I saw him perform this part in the same play back in 2002, I don't remember if it was the same group, but well worth seeing again.
Also, from the the flyer the price for admission is Free, but donations are accepted for Burn Care Everywhere.
I plan on attending, hope you will too.

Well this is truly amazing. According to lohud, over 60 police units had to respond from as far south as Tuckahoe to deal with this unreasonable and unruly crowd. Why? Because their "muslim sensibilities" were insulted? Give me a freakin' break. The rules are posted and for certain rides, there is to be NO WEARING OF ANY TYPE OF HEADGEAR period.
Why do these people think they are exempt from the rules, the laws? I know what they would like; Sharia Law. Their own version of a justice system implemented in the countries they emigrate to. I think that is a disgusting disgrace, as were the actions of these supposedly "religious" people at the Playland park.
Look, you people want to assimilate in this country, fine. I guess we have to let some of you in. But if you don't like the system, the rules in place... TOO F'IN BAD, go back to the place you came from.
The difference between these people and the ancestors of many of us here in this forum is our great-grandparents had a huge desire to assimilate into the American culture. That's why on my mother's side, they came from Italy, moved into the south Bronx and gave up teaching their native language to their children, my mother, and therefore I don't know Italian today as a result. I wish that part were different, but the point being these people were so anxious to "fit in" they even gave up their language. Italian was forbidden to be spoken in the house by my great-grandparents, as a result their great-grandchildren only speak English.
Now these muslims with their headgear, the hijab, they can't even get on the Dragon Coaster without starting a ruckus? Like Playland OWES them something, like WE owe them anything? They should kiss the ground of freedom they walk upon, shut their damn mouths, follow the rules, or else.
What a waste of PD resources to have to direct half the cars on patrol up to Playland because these freaking people were "insulted"! Enough! Fit in or GET OUT!

As a responder that day, one of the things that got me through was that I kept telling myself that those poor children didn't know what hit them. When the toxicology report came out, it broke my heart. Those kids had to be so frightened in that car with that drunk/high maniac. I also firmly believe that Dan Schuler said or did something to his wife that morning that caused her to go over the edge - I only hope that one day the truth will come out.
By the way, I thought HBO did a terrible job!

I believe NIMS says to use "Common terminology" as opposed to "Plain English"/"Plain language."
They are entirely different. You must be using NIMS if you want to communicate with the feds and use their resouces and get some money after a disaster. This is especially important for the Southern Westchester Special Operations Task Force for example. Just look at the postings above to see how Westchester's Communications is a fiasco. Look at how many posters showed how they are contributing to the fiasco and blame it on the other guy.
Maybe NRFD needs training in first-on-scene reporting and how important it is to use those key words like "Working Fire." Maybe 60-Control could use a little training on clarifying what messages mean by asking questions. Try a radio conversation like the following as an example:
"E-1 to Dispatch, On-scene and we got trouble. It's blowing out on the first floor. We're pulling a deuce and a half."
"Dispatch to E-1, are you declaring this Working Fire?"
    (E-1) "10-4"
    "Dispatch receives...Working Fire."
I think everybody understood what E-1 had even though it was poor procedure. (But it was better than conflicting 10 Codes)
Time to stop defending your system, guys, it doesn't work. It's time to get in step with the rest of the country.

For some reason the general public has a fixation of sorts on the uniformed services, we're different somehow.

Just like in the recent thread on EMS in the county, there is little debate a problem exists. Who will finally play the role of a leader and start to take some action?
Posts like this one, calling out some FD do nothing. Everyone is well aware of the problems. Some may have their heads in the sand, but they are aware.
Instead of calling out this agency, offer some suggestions or solutions. Without offering something productive, this thread offers nothing.

A very good friend of mine is riding in the Police Unity Tour to raise money to honor police officers killed in the line of duty. This 300 mile tour from Ground Zero to the Law Enforcement Officer's Memorial in Washington, DC takes place next month and Jack Schonely (who some of you may remember from the Suspect Tactics and Perimeter Containment training course last year) is riding in it.

Please consider making a contribution to this cause in Jack's name. The info on making an online contribution is below.
    Thanks and stay safe!
    Chris

(feel free to share this info with friends and colleagues!)

    Dear friends,

Next month Jack Schonely will have the honor of riding in the memory of our fallen officers in the Police Unity Tour. This is a 300 mile bicycle ride from Ground Zero in New York to the National Law Enforcement Officer's Memorial in Washington D.C. over three days. On the final day thousands of us will ride into the memorial and later join in the Candlelight Vigil to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

To keep the memorial going, I am asking for your support in sponsoring me on this ride. Please take a moment and click on the Police Unity Tour banner on top to make your donation. (please scroll down to my name – "Jack Schonely" to support my ride for Ketchum and Libolt). All proceeds go to maintaining the National Law Enforcement Officer's Memorial so that none will ever be forgotten.

Please donate right away as this is our last week to raise support.

Thank you for your help and in remembering those who gave so much. Please feel free to email me if you have any questions or would like further information.

If the link doesn't work in the banner, please go to:

Congratulations to Officer Hess, on receiving this prestigious award from his colleagues, well deserved, I might add.
Regarding the expected (over)reaction and orchestrated response from the Henry family, que sera sera.
Let me go way out on a limb, here, if I may... I often wonder...
if anything would have wound up any differently in regards to this entire incident, if the police officers involved with the shooting , were black? Or the alleged assailant, white?
I'm going to go out even further... I bet nobody involved in this is going to be having a cold beer with President Obama, anytime soon.
