  1. From my sources within Putnam the Sheriffs office road patrol kent Carmel police departments will all merge into a Putnam county police department.. The sheriff will only stay on to cover the jail and civil matters
  2. Has anyone recieved a letter from stamford yet regarding test time and location? All I've gotten was a study guide
  3. My department has a policy in place restricting use of chiefs car to no more then 16 miles out of district for non firematic activities, pain in the butt? yes, Necessary? very big yes
  4. Who do you work for? I have same uniform for Fdny EMS everything is kept in my bag and the radio clips to belt
  5. Mother called 911 wanted her 11 year Old son taken to hospital for psych eval because he wouldn't do his homework Man called 911 because he thought he took 800mg or Motrin, he took 4 Motrin thought the pill count was the mg 3:300am toothache I always loved Person called 911 on her 30th floor apartment to report she was hit by a car of course when we got there she couldn't walk The I need to to this hospital so I can make my doctors appointment The list continues...........
  6. We actually just installed one in our district and used a regular hydrant not the 6 inch pipe, works great haven't had a problem since we installed it and its been used on multiple fires. If you're ever in Mahopac falls its about 500 feet from the corner of bullethole and hill street
  7. Can anyone who just recently filed for the cpat and greenwich test tell me how they proved they were registered for the cpat? Thank you in advance
  8. Instead of chains put a huge I beam reinforced with concrete across the road 2-300 feet before the bridge it's alot easier to clean up when it's hit and I gaurantee it knocks the GPS off the windshield and common sense into the driver
  9. The department I am in which is Mahopac Falls has one which covers most of putnam and occasionally goes out with Yorktown and Somers.. send me a message as to what you want and I will see what I can do.
  10. You hit the nail on the head, very well said I couldn't agree with you more brother
  11. Just another thing and I'm done with this thread. Is the chiefs car owned by a municipality or an incorporated department, if its owned by a municipality then yes lodge a complaint with the commissioners of said district and let them take care of it. If its an incorporated department contracted out to provide a service then the town really has no say in the day to day operation of that vehicle
  12. Does it really bother you that much? The chief earned his way up the ranks to get that truck, if the department has no by laws set in place justifying how far away he can go with it then he isn't wrong. It is what it is
  13. Have to agree with some of the posts on here a "structure fire" is a dispatch term while "working fire" can be used in many diff scenarios to describe a fire that is growing in intensity and size.
  14. Just another reason why captains and chiefs in FDNY EMS should be tested positions with training.. In brutal honesty alot of higher ranking officials are glorified lieutenants since that's the highest rank you achieve via civil service the rest is promotion via word of mouth
  15. Deff the volunteer one I would even buy them some toys... As for the paid one no way
  16. I don't know if you have looked at them but fireengineering.com has training minutes on basically anything you can think of. It's helped me plan alot of drills and its free
  17. Valid point but only half a year that still doesnt equate to 50,000
  18. Agree with grumpy the academy only costs about 3,000 dollars per cadet.. And didn't Gov. Pataki pass the law where you can't leave the city and be hired as a cop unless you're on a civil service list? If that's the case it's not the town or villages fault that candidate came up for hiring right after academy
  19. RIP Lenny you were a great partner and even better person.. Till we meet again
  20. The fire department should have some sort of first aid training. if they don't and something happened where they were negligent I could see that being a huge lawsuit. Most departments now have Emts or at the lowest Cfrs on there rolls that could hold the scene of anything down till an Als or Bls bus arrives. So to answer your question you'd probably be more liable if something happened to the patient while you sat there and waited for an ambulance than you would be if you held stabilization or stopped the bleeding of a trauma patient.
  21. You would need a really good core of about 60 members with nothing to do and about 8 or 9 ambulances to cover those districts. Plus who would cover Als? Empress has been a fixture in Yonkers for a long time as well. If you were going to start a vac to supplement them like throggs neck vac does in the Bronx that may work otherwise it's too big to handle
  22. It's based of experience outside Fdny ems experience with Fdny ems job and college experience there's points for being a volunteer and then it comes down to the last 5 of your social security number. When I got my list number 4 years ago it said I was 1.2 but when I went to metrotech there were about 85 people getting there civil service with me
