  2. If you search loud horns scaring people on you tube--there are a bunch of video's. Some seem kinda funny. You can also visit hornblasters.com for their "Terror on The Streets" videos. They run about $250 and up for a setup. They actually sound like a train.
  3. I was having some problems last week but thought it was my pc. The last 2 days it has been fine.
  4. I have had these for over a year now. Actually--bought an extra set just in case. Best glove I have ever had. Been through a lot of abuse and still doing fine. The new model is said to be considerably better and more corfortable. The company that makes them is called Tech Trade. They make some interasting products http://techtradellc.com/ We also purchase some of the warming blankets from them--another outstanding product.
  5. Putnam Valley FD is replacing our 1988 Pierce Lance formerly rescue/engine 24-2-1 out of station 2 currently engine 24-2-2 out of Sta1. Contracts being signed shortly for a Spartan/Marion 1000/1000 pumper. Details will follow soon.
  6. Montrose took Best Over All I think Chelsea H&L took second best Putnam Valley FD took Best Tanker and Best Non-Reg under 15 in line Putnam Valley Vac took Best appearing ambulance Hearing was difficult down there as there was no PA system so I can't say what happened with the rest of the trophies.
  7. I also have had the opportunity to try out the buddy light. Awesome product!!! Only issue--make sure you do not store anything on top of your helmet or store it up side down. Accidental activations are possible. It has happened to me a few times-something falling on it--but the battery life is incredible. It fits on most helmets with some modification--take your time and do it right. It does keep the light focused on where you are headed. Try it you will like it.
  8. Rest in peace Daniel. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends, FDNY and Truck 146.
  9. I believe Ossining Police--when they dispatch the FD also has that after the tones. My guess is that it activates the siren's around town. Chappaqua had that also when New Castle PD was dispatching if my memory serves me correctly.
  10. Remember this phrase-- UNPAID PROFESSIONALS We all must act professional, the communities we serve count on it!!!
  11. In the past it ended down the bottom of Main street across the train tracks--not sure this year though. Putnam Valley will be there!!!
  12. Yea--my job--do something for us--yea right--oh wait--they did give us A/C in the trucks BUT, company policy prohibits any un necessary idling of any vehicle. Heaven forbid we go back to the shop for lunch to cool off either. Workin 14 hour days is no help either. Yes I know--don't like it--go else where--well it is not for the lack of trying!!!!
  13. Ebay has them at times. From a Motorola dealer they may be available in some freq's but as of 2 years ago they were running about $100 each
  14. Just out of curiosity--Ed you might know the answer--since Putnam is designated as 40 so are they actually 40-35-M1,2,3,4? Is the 35 used because it was the next number up in the county (31 Carmel,32 Garrison, 33 P'town, 34 P'valley) In my opinion--as Cortlandt medic's are 35 medic's and PC medic 2 does go to Westchester on occasion--maybe they should have separated them a bit more??? And of course--like wise Let's see a call in the Valley that requires 2 medics--try contacting medic 1 or 2--even 35-m1 or 35-m2 -- who will answer? Sounds petty but in the worlds of NIMS and ICS etc--might just make for a confusing day.
  15. We have recently upgraded all of our "older" Scott's to the integrated pass as well as purchasing 2 new one's (not the NX) just a new pack with the integrated pass and heads up. Yes the bttery life is not what it used to be but it is controlling alot more. Another problem is when you are using them--if you consistantly wait for the alarm to start sounding (low volume) you will further decrease battery life. As for the face piece melting--we have had issues with the AV-2000 in the flashover simulator. That is a severe case--if it melted the face piece--did it compromise your gear? Flashover is definately a place (for us) to use brand new equipment as it tends to destroy everything. Just my opinion though--I am sure there are those that will disagree.
  16. Absolutely--let's do it!!!
  17. Deputy Chief Sam Juliano has answered his last alarm. Chief Juliano was an active member of the Putnam Valley Fire Dept for 52 years. He rose through the ranks and was Chief of Department from October, 1973 until October, 1975. He has served as a Deputy Chief from then until the present, as well as Chairman of the Finance Committee. He will be missed. “Well done, good and faithful servant.” R.I.P. Sam
  18. Putnam Valley FD took delivery of a 2006 Tahoe as a replacement for the current 24-1-3 a 2001 2500HD crew cab. We are currently specing out the lighting and lettering for the Tahoe--which is White--a first for the Valley as well as gathering info on re fitting the pick up for use as a replacement for the current 24-8-1 which is a 1980 Ford/Hurst E-350 cutaway (for those who know us--it was our 24-6-1 from 80' - 96' when we got the new rescue). More details to follow. Any questions drop me a line. P.S. Anyone need an engine? We are selling our 1985 Pierce Arrow Attack Engine. 1,000/1,000---8V-92TA, Allison Auto, low miles. The truck is listed in Fire Tec Magazine.
  19. At the current time--the link to Putnam Dispatch 46.38 (453.9375) is down for re programming. The new freq for the Link to 46.38 will be--- 453.8875 It should be up and running by tonight is not first thing in the morning-
  20. Yes---453.7875 is still the link to 46.38
  21. I have had a V for a few months--in low band--which is the least sensitive of the units--and I have to say--the reception is far superior to the III and IV. The stored voice is a nice touch--if you can handle the "squelch" while you are waiting for the dispatch. We sometimes have a delay after the tones before the actual dispatch comes over--took a bit to get the recording time set to an acceptable level but it is nice. False trips have not been a problem--and I have--3 sets of 2 tone and 2 long tones on freq 1 and 2 sets of dual tones on freq 2--silent scan rules--that is for sure. For those that have issues--could be a few things--such as--a long tone that is close to an "alert" tone (like Fairview) that with a little interference trips--or--2 dept dispatching about the same time--especially with all the UHF repeaters--if your first tone is the same as some one getting dispatched and your second tone is the same as another dept getting tones (or radio clashing causes distortion)--that could be--especially in Putnam--we have a few departments that have their first tone as 707.3--I would recommend having the pager read and verified--maybe check the squelch as well. Possibly some factory default tones left in or sometimes -- for those who have used or seen the software--where it asks the type--IE User, Plectron,GE--ETC- I find it works best in User--what happens is it sometimes does not accept certain HZ depending on the system selected. Like--you have a Motorola console but a different encoder--you select Motorola 707.3 and it might come back with 707.1 or 707.9 or whatever--sounds complicated I know but it is not the easiest to explain-easier to show. As far as battery life--I have gotten 3 or 4 days out of the battery in silent scan--and one of the dept's gets toned out ALOT. The only gripe I have so far is--when the pager is in the charger amp-and receives a call--there is a noticable hum even in the playback. I asked our rep--and I was told to see if the next batch that came in had the same problem--as Motorola was having issues with the charger amps--which is why they are so delayed. It could be an issue with the older "first run" edition. Whew--sorry for rambling--any questions PM me. I have the software so yes I have played extensively with it--and no--can't quite figure out how to add more "musical tones" to the unit--the ones in there are a nice touch for those multi tone or agency people out there.
  22. Usually they are in charge of driver training and alike for that rig if I am correct.
  23. Quick description of our Engine/Rescue--1,000 gpm/1,000 tank (30 gal foam tank), Holmatro cutters, spreaders, ram's, mini cutter, 2 power units 1 electric and one gas, paratech tigh pressure airbags, cribbing, Backboard, stokes, oxygen, collars--along with the fire equipment--saws, irons, hooks, etc. Does that classify as an engine/rescue?
  24. I believe they have 1 chiefs car, a marine unit, 2 (or 3) engines, 1 tanker, and a medium duty rescue, and 1 brush truck. I could be missing something though
  25. First off--I believe Continental Village won 2nd best tanker (I believe Brewster brought an engine) as well as 3rd rd best Non Reg--. Putnam Valley took 3rd tanker, 2nd best Firematic color guard, and 2nd best Non Reg. putnam Valley VAC took an ambulance trophy as well as an ambulance corps trophy.
