I noticed in the flier that you have to be in "excellent" physical condition but only of "good" moral character. I guess the city doesn't worry that Firefighters go into people's houses when they are not home.
And, Cap, you must be old school if you noticed all the typos. Back in your day (and mine) the job descriptions always said "Performs light clerical duties." That piece of the job description is gone, so candy dates don't have to spel gud no more.
I better stop writing now or I'll get in trouble

I guess I have a couple of things to say:
    1. There are so many typo's in this exam notice I lost count.
    2. You DO NOT need a High School diploma OR a G.E.D. ( I guess you don't need one to write the exam either )
    3. You can be a convicted criminal and/or a drug addict.
    4. You need to lift a 14' roof ladder. ( Who's going to grab the 24' or the 28' for that matter ?)
I'm old school, I admit that. But it's hard to read the exam requirements and not shake my head. I'm starting my 24th year as a Captain. I have been asked many times "what makes a good firefighter?". The answer is: give me a person who played High School sports; who has common sense; and who has a working knowledge of the trades and I'll make you a good firefighter. And that's all I have to say about that.

How did this post, originally about a great job done by all, including the rescue of ten people in below freezing temperatures become a diatribe about everything except the job. I was surprised to even see a post about a yonkers fire since the incident alert section has not posted many of our jobs the past few months.

If the waterfront property is in naples let me know. That land is hard to come by. #veryinterested

There are many more things that have to be taken into consideration when it comes to fire protection. Besides size and population you must also take into account Education level and poverty level. These are well connected with the frequency of fires in a given geographic area.
Politicians in Westchester and the people with ties to these politicians don't want to in they're mind give up control of there fire department or district. Good idea wrong time or county.
Besides Mutual aid seems to be effective enough that the politicians don't see a need for change. It's not like with whatever fires have been happening there has been a lack of response or manpower to these fires. I haven't seen a politician defend him or herself from from the press or public about not having an adequate amount of manning or apparatus.
There are many on this site who see a need for a better way, but the Politicians don't see the need. As far as they're concerned everything is working great and the mutual aid system is the most amazing idea ever. QTIP!

When somebody shows up at a fire in some sort of official capacity in another city or town without being dispatched i don't know what else to call it but "self dispatched" In some cases they're not there because they have personal on scene either.

Probably because many members work for paid services which may or may not monitor this website, and those users may or may not intentionally or unintentionally say something their employer doesn't like.

They shouldn't get any 2% money since they don't provide fire protection. The members of the White Plains fire department are losing out on money for the last 30 years.

yes but because you are a law abiding citizen, you either reloaded 3 times or have at least 3 7round magazines.
You need to remember that Cuomo's original call was for CONFISCATION. Don't believe for a second that his goal has changed. Why else register and ban the transfer of "assault" weapons? This is so the state knows who has them. Makes it a whole lot easier to knock on your door and "ask" you to give them up. It'll be real interesting to see how many actually register out of the thousands that are said to exist in this state.
The reason this was rushed through was so that no one could have a chance to read it. This bill is 78 pages. We are only beginning to find out what is in it. Cuomo used his executive powers to circumvent the state constitution which requires a 3 day aging period for new legislation. This was done so that the legislature and the public would not have a chance to review it. Some legislatures complained they had less than 20 minutes to look at the bill before the vote.
Mental health? How about requiring prospective owners to undergo psychological testing, from a state sponsored psychiatrist, at a substantial cost, to see if you are fit to own a firearm (in the eyes of the state). It's coming. You're an LEO? You think you will be exempt? Think again. Mmm... Sounds like some Eastern European countries where it might take you 5 years to get state permission to own a single shot shotgun with limited amounts of state approved ammunition.
And guess what? With all the restrictions, rules, taxes, etc. the bad guys still have guns.
