  1. "40-Control" now goes by the call sign "Putnam 911". Sorry I've had a scanner since I was 12
  2. you might not pick up 44 or 40's end of the convo unless you are at a high point or have a big antenna. but you will hear "Westchester to Putnam/Rockland on 45.88..." and whatever else they have to say.
  3. For example: at 1512 on Friday August 5 (as I was about to reply to this post) Westchester called Putnam on 45.88 to report an MVA w/ extrication on Rte. 22 IFO the Jehovah's Witness hall.
  4. click on the link a couple of posts up for detailed information
  5. There was an article I read not long ago about how breathing the gasses that are present during Overhaul has led to a rise in the cancer rate (particularly Bladder cancer, believe it or not) in firefighters. Just because you can't see it or taste it doesn't mean its not there.
  6. It is often confusing when Rye and Hawthorne are on the air at the same time, since our Engines are 191 and 192, and their Chiefs are 2191, 2192, etc... Any other cases of this type of numerical coincidence?

  8. Well there were about 120 people taking the exam and the Proctor said they have 3 spots to fill immediately. Best of Luck to all! =D>
  9. They left out Seagrave when mentioning the major manufacturers...
  10. Any clue as to what Courts are looking to fill spots?
  11. Playland Pool is open to the Public (There's an entrance fee and parking costs a couple of bucks.) In the 24 years I've lived in Rye I have been there exactly once (that I remember), so I can't speak to its quality.
  12. Are there other rigs in WC that are dubbed "Rescue" but have a pump/hose/etc?
  13. -Standard 80" door openings (I hit my head) -Wearing my gear when its 95º outside! (Yes, I know its better than NOT wearing it when it's 1500º INside...)
  14. Why does it sound like someone is dialing a phone on 46.26? (Not on one of the UHF link channels)
  15. that is the coolest thing i have heard all day! makes sense with all the commercial buildings that had water in the basement.
  16. Wolf- I know what you mean but this literally sounds like someone dialing "xxx-xxxx" you can hear 7 distinct tones. Anyone, anyone? Bueller?
  17. Too bad Santa didn't know the 10-code for what he wanted! #-o
  18. well... yea. Rye Brook has only been around since 1982- it took them over 200 years to separate the VILLAGE from from Port Chester, and looks like it will be just as long for them to completely figure out the FD situation  And regarding Riverdale- Bring an out-of-towner to EAST 233rd and then WEST 233rd and see if they believe that its the same place! (East 233rd, Imperial Beverage Mart... ahhh the high school memories...) PS- Under-age drinking is bad.

  20. Ok, I am by no means trying to be insensitive to people who are battling obesity. That being said, I have heard New Ro dispatched to a number of "lift assists" this week... Anybody know what is up?
  21. That was very informative! Shows what I (don't) know about the EMS world. Thanks =D>
  22. I would have to say Playland. Particularly the area of the Olde Mill/Dragon Coaster. Also the "Blind Brook Lodge" that is situated between Milton Road and the Boston Post Road on "Church Row". Aside from being an old balloon-frame job, the basement is impossible to navigate with the lights on, let alone in the dark/smoke. Also due to the masonary walls you can forget about portable radios working in most of the basement. There are about 6 doors for every 10 feet of the basement hallway, I am not kidding. VERY dangerous if there was ever a need to go down there at a fire. (25truck26 contributed to this post.)
  23. Date: 7-16-05 Time: 2002 Location: 43 Wrights Mill Rd. X Route 128 Description: Rekindle of this morning's fire. Frequency: 46.260 Units: Car 2021, Tanker 9 Writer: 242steve 2001: Armonk dispatched to rekindle
  24. I think that is a valid idea. If you have a Commercial Drivers License, you are expected to be a "professional" driver and therefore the fines for moving violations are higher. So if you are a "sworn member" of a department whose goal is preventing fires, you should pay a higher price for setting them!
