  1. And sit in court for multiple days on top of it when the need arises...
  2. Operating budget is 50K a year, but operating cost is between 10-15K. There is much more that could be cut or trimmed back, but the FID team? Minimal costs to maintain their day to day operations, they are the most active team in the Department of Emergency Response. It'll be a whole different ball game if either the Chiefs have to make their determination alone, or they have to contract out for investigatory services, and figure out all the liability issues. I doubt most Chiefs in the county want to spend days in the court arguing over NFPA 921 and 1033. I urge everyone in Dutchess to get a hold of their fire commissioners, county coordinators, and put some pressure to get back the team.
  3. These are photos from the second half of the Bus Rescue class that many members from Dutchess County took in Montour Falls for the county weekend this year. We went to East Fishkill's training center with two buses and a state fire instructor. It was a great class, the hands on portion really put into perspective all of what we were taught. I would like to thank East Fishkill for hosting us and providing a rescue, as well as Pleasant Valley for providing one as well, the SFI, and Chiefs Council for making this happen. Credit for all photos goes to Chris Hawks of Millbrook. Below is became of it:
  4. A big thanks also to Chris Hawks for taking these photos throughout the night!

  6. In the past few days, I decided to step up and post a few IA's for what I thought were noteworthy jobs. The first one I will admit that I half heard the dispatch and wrote the wrong information, I did correct it after it was brought to my attention, and then that one suddenly disappeared. This afternoon, I posted a chimney fire that a local department picked up, which I feel is a legitimate incident to post, but that one went poof as well. Should I just not bother posting incidents? I try not to post MVA's, because they are a dime a dozen, even pin jobs, and I think chimney fires are more noteworthy. But both of my posts have disappeared. I would understand if I were being sent a pm or something to tell me why my IA's are not worthy of being up on the boards, but I received nothing (Which I don't expect, Mod's are busy people for the most part). So for now I think I won't bother posting IA's, they don't seem to stay for long anyways. I hope someone on the moderating staff can help me resolve this issue.
  7. Thanks for such a prompt response, while I understand the policy, I disagree with it. But to each their own correct? Either way I'll follow the guidelines!
  8. I would have to agree that he probably hydroplaned.
  9. I would definitely pay.
  10. Great shots, something great to specialize in. A valuable resource indeed.
  11. One can only, in my mind, begin to consider the concept of a professional firefighter, when they go outside of the box as categorizing Jakes as paid or volunteer. The article did a very good job at highlighting what I think the general consensus is, it is not what you are paid, but how you go about the job. Simple as that..
  12. I am not 100% familiar with VTL for emergency vehicles.. but I do remember the original sections on blue lights, and if this is an addition, than EMS is really left out, unless I never caught a particular section pertaining to EMS, which I doubt there is.. Either way, we just had a single rotating blue light changed on our two new rigs from the original red (dome replacement), and the difference is astonishing, day and night, not to mention with NYSP started doing this a few years ago. I remember going down I-90 in the middle of a snowstorm and only being able to see the blue clearly from a farther distance than I could see any of the other colors. I doubt anyone would give private, FD EMS, or pure EMS rigs a hard time if they added blue as well.
  13. A priority system based on a sequence of standard questions and adding any other pertinent info to decide the response seems to work up here. Granted I've been to life threatening and fatal priority 3's and 4's (NLS side of the scale), and been to very minor almost "laughable" for better lack of an appropriate term priority 1's. From my time spent behind the wheel of an ambulance, in our rural setting, RLS for the majority of transports results in minimal time gained. Not that I am denying their credibility in the ease of transport, but it is just something to think about.
  14. RIP to Firefighters Ruggerio and Kelly, we've got the watch.
  15. PoJo Link Haven't heard too many voluntary demotions as of late.. I only hope the best for the PFD
  16. I was thinking to myself - its a weird time of the year. But if you lost your lower half like an avalanche, it makes sense. Good luck with the new butterbars and Captain.

Location: 27 Harrison's Trail Frequency: Dispatch, Response, Command 3 Units Operating: East Fishkill, Mobile Life, Village of Fishkill (FAST) Weather Conditions: 80's, cloudy, humid Description Of Incident: Initial dispatch for smoke coming from a car in a garage, update from command: car fire in a garage, requested a Second Alarm. 18. Our two new rigs both came with audio included with the rear-view camera. Which can be turned on with the rear scene lights and when in reverse. Granted the audio is only one way, but these are not ladder trucks so there is no need for two-way communication really. The camera is nice, but we still trust our spotter mostly in conjunction with mirrors and the rear-view camera.
  19. 51-11 was recently delivered. Here are some photos for your viewing pleasure. 11, like our recent delivery, 31, were both made by Yankee Fire, for Rosenbauer. 11 is an International Workstar featuring 4wd, with a Rosenbauer Central body on it. CAFS system, 500 gallons, 1500gpm pump. I'll have more pictures of the compartments, including how we mounted air-packs to two vertical pullout trays. 11 will be in service shortly.
  20. RIP to the two BFD firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice, you will not be forgotten.
