I think this soldier deserves more consideration from our membership, so I just want to point out here on the board, that Mr. Buckles was THE LAST American left on this earth to have served in World War I. Maybe we'll get more clicks on the article and more comments.
We as a nation have gone so far from the dark days of the early twentieth century when our countrymen experienced so much hardship. From incomprehensible casualties and the cruelty of chemical weapons and trench warfare that was the horror of World War I, to terrible times back here in the Motherland of a collapsed economy, and people migrating all over through "The Grapes of Wrath", homeless and hungry until they reached a soup kitchen.
110 years for Mr. Buckles. He witnessed all of the twentieth century, served our country, and became a symbol of the gallant and brave young men America sent overseas to fight and die for a better world.
Rest in Peace Sir, you earned it many many decades ago.

FDNY companies from the 15th Battalion were dispatched and arrived first and transmitted the initial 10-75. Mt. Vernon FD units were dispatched shortly after. I believe highest incident command on scene was FDNY Assistant Chief of Operations Manahan, with the scene being turned over the MVFD after the Under Control.
  16. ryang liked a post in a topic by M' Ave in AEDs On Your Apparatus?
An AED costs, well, nothing. They are cheaper than some iPhone's. Every single person with a pulse should be familiar with CPR and the use of an AED. Every engine co. in NYC has one. Perhaps every patrol car should have one as well. They should be in every single public gathering place and someone who knows how to use one should be within useful distance of it at all times.
It's so easy a child could use one. They're so cheap there's no budget excuse not to have one. They can and do mean the difference between life and death. If more people are trained in CPR and more AED's are available, perhaps they're mean life more often.

Your right I did not ask about your fire district, I 1st asked why and what type of foam would be used. In my experience 90% of firefighters either use foam improperly or dont understand why they are using foam. You answered my question by stating you did not know what chemicals are found in YOUR fire district.
My 2nd question was a general question about how fire fighters gather information about hazards in there district.
Yes and I also asked a very simple question for all firefighters.
If you thought my questions was an attack on your department, then you could have simply not answered me. Since I do not know which dept you are with and you did respond that your dept. cant answer the question than I guess party time is over and you and your dept needs to get back to work. I sorry you feel I'm a kill joy and I've ruined the topic for you. My intent is to get others to consider this issue and DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. To many firefighters have died or been injured because they do not have information available to them.
There are many "hard" questions that need to be asked in the fire service. This one fire should open the door to asking "how are we doing" and "can we do it better"?
I'm sorry that you feel you are the only one with the RIGHT to ask a question on here. Since you can not answer my general question, then maybe you need to think a little longer about what questions are important in the fire service.
If you can not take the heat (of a simple question) get out of the fire.
    Thank you.
