  1. What the Heck, Willy D, if you need me or need anything, you have both my numbers. Call me and you have it brother. Joe
  2. Hey Guys, My collection of EMS and FD T-shirts is running low (Ya think-lol) anyway if anyone has any preferably in a 3X (I'm down to a 2X but David wears 3X) let me know. I can do $15-$20 a pop and if I can keep the energy level somewhat up there, I'll go downstate CT and to Westchester County too, especially as I'm supposed to hook up with Brett over at TVAC for coffee or somethin. Thanks, Joe
  3. My son David is an avid race fan and was watching when the wreck happened. The guy won 2 indy's and was only 33 years old. he started racing in 2002 according to reports tonight. 33 years old, what a shame. The guy pretty much had his whole life ahead of him. During the break they were showing all of the drivers talking to each other including Danica Patrick (I think she's a doll) anyway, you could see the concern on their faces. I think it was pretty decent that they did the 5 lap tribute for him. From what we were listening to I guess his wife and family were there too and watched the crash. Like I said 33....that is just too young to go. But hey the man upstairs must have had plans for him. i tend to say that when young people are taken from this earth, always have. I'm not a god freak, but I do believe there is someone higher than us in charge of things. RIP #77

  5. i was looking at the other vehicles they had on the block. The suburbans aren't bad but unfortunately were used for plowing so they took a beating. They also have the same car I just bought from Putnam PD up here in CT which is a 2003 I have a bit higher mileage, but the greenburgh car is pretty cheap and only has like 83K on it. It was a K( SWAT car, but the paint is shot and I didn't see any interior pics so my guess is that the interior is beat too. Vics are great as they can take one hell of a beating and keep going. What gets me is that Putnam retired my car and then with the bidding process just bought a bunch of 2011's at get this 23K a pop. That's a damn good price for a brand new car fresh out of the box

  7. i quite frankly think they deserve to be raped and set on fire. Hell, I'll even throw the match, however I think there'd be a long line of volunteers in that respect. That said, This is one case I don't think the appeals process should be used for as these guys couldn't have been caught in the act any better unless you were inside of the house while everything was happening. But of course we have to embrace the system. I highly doubt we'll put either of them to death either as the only reason we took Ross out was because he basically asked us to put him out of his misery. But these are just my feelings and sorry if I stepped on any toes here, although I am sure that at least one or two people here will agree with me. Joe
  8. Hey Guys, one of our members here, who is also a member of a board I belong to in CT came up with an awesome idea. Tomorrow, a bunch of guys are getting together and meeting at a D&D in East Haven here just to shoot the sh** and buff a few jobs. They are doing it here from 10 am - 10 pm. I'm actually gonna be stopping by there. That said, I think something like that would be a cool idea for maybe Westchester County or something. I mean Rob does an awesome job with the get togethers at a resturaunt, etc, but I was thinking about maybe an informal deal during the daytime, maybe during the week or even on a weekend day. What do you guys think? (BTW Thank you Willy D as the CT thing was definately your baby and you planted the seed-lol) Joe
  9. LOL Willy, Yeah, I was actually talking about doing similiar to what's going on in East Haven tomorrow in Westchester as that was also my old stomping grounds from my medic days. Rob (RWC130) actually sets up some nice get togethers for dinners, and minchies and stuff, but I thought something like what's going on tomorrow would be different, with a whole bunch of us getting together. Depending on how things go, I should see you tomorrow sometime. I'll bring the CPU and the portable wifi so we can update everyone-lol joe
  10. Not all CSP cars have lightbars on them. We recently started using Dodge Chargers for speed enforcement, there are expeditions without bars and there are plenty of Crown Vics with interior lighting. Remember this too, a CT trooper is never truly off duty so to speak, that means that although not on patrol, they still stop people or pull over to assist and all kinds of stuff. I know plenty of troopers, who after their patrol shift is over, pull their lightbars off the roof and stow them. Will they pull you over? You bet they will. Also, CT used to have all fully marked carstill I think some time back in the 80's or early 90's. Before that we had all cars that were all marked and identical, then the state decided it wanted to save money. We weren't trying to throw people off with different color cars, This fine state just decided that it could save money by taking whatever cars it could almost like an off the lot type mentality. The state pretty much took what was left over. Some cities in CT have Tachs and full guage setups on their cars. Wallingford used to, not sure if they still do, but for the most part, unless it was special ordered, you won't see that with a state cruiser. I was telling one of the other guys on the board, CVPI's are an awesome car. I've owned a few, even before the true interceptors were out there. If you get a car that was well maintained and taken care of, you can put a million (well maybe not a million) miles on them. They ride great and they are built like a tank. What other cars can take a hit at 75mph that you know about and not totally self destruct? Ijust bought a 2003 from Putnam PD here in CT it was their DUI Enforcement car. It had a few little issues, but I took care of them and the car is 100% for the most part. It's dark blue and because of that, you can see every little scratch in it so I'm getting it resprayed the same color. I'm keeping it till next year then giving it to my youngest son who is just getting his license so that I can feel safe that he has alot of metal around himin case of an accident. Like I said, these cars hold up in a crash. Then I plan to buy either a 2010 or a 2011 and if not,I'll get an expedition as we used those at Westchester and they held up great too. And Yes, CT has it's fair share of look alikes. We just had a case in Naugatuck of a guy pulling over a female in a brown CV and sexually assaulting her and in the southern part of the state a few weeks ago we had another CV full light show and siren blowing down I-84. My personal opinion, before you're able to buy an old patrol vehicle, youshould have to go through a record check. But then agsin, so many different kinds of cars are used for UC ops, you never know. A lot of times here in West Haven if an unmarked is going to make a stop, they call for a black and white and give positions to it and have the marked unit pull the car over.
  11. I would never, talk down firefighting or EMS as a career as 10570 and JFLYNN pointed out, college is a must do. You never know what can happen down the road and trust me, you'll need that college education to get you by. I can attest to that first hand. I was involved in a volly department just a bit and I was doing EMS full time for a job and I loved it, but something happened ( I caught some really screwed up crap) and I had no choice but to stop doing what I loved. It's really great when you can wake up in the morning and actually be happy that you are going to work at a job you love, you can trust me on that 110%. But when you have to stop doing it, you best have a good cushion to fall back on. It took me 9, almost 10 years of fighting before the insurance company finally did the right thing and stepped up to the plate, and even now I still have to fight for stuff. I will say this though, Never, ever, if I had the chance to do it all again, would I not do what I did. Those that I worked with, as well as those that I vollied with and some are on this board, are some of the best people, and friends a guy could have. I am proud to call these guys my other "family". It's something nobody can ever take away from me and something I will cherish till the day I take my last breath. But remember, you have to do what's best for you at all times and you can't help anyone if you can't take care of yourself. Good luck with what you choose to do in life. Joe
  12. joe, while i know you personally, having worked in the field with you, I totally hear where you are coming from and I respect the hell out of you. that said, even if I didn't know you, I couldn't help but respect you after this post. It is both true and straight to the point and very accurate indeed. Well done my friend. Joe
  13. Uh yes, this is Mr. Smith, I'm having an MI and think I'm going to die, can you please send your luxury ambulance so I can go out in style? I'm sorry Mr. smith, President Obama has reserved the rig for tonight so we'll be sending a regular unit to you. BTW did you say you're on medicaid?
  14. willy, as i posted on the ct boards, my prayers are with you. please, do not hesitate to contact me if there is anything i can do. joe
  15. i love these old shots. are you scanning these pics? film was great wasn't it. alot of these youngr guys have no idea what they missed right seth? joe i still have some stills of stuff from ct incidents around. i'll see if i can find any and scan them in

  18. you know what seth? I for one dont want you taking any photos. there are plenty of shots and live video out there. That said, I really feel sorry for all those affected by the fires. All I can say is my heart goes out to them and I hope they as well as the fire department gets all the help that they need.
  19. ok i'm gonna show how long I haven't been around now - who has the medic contract for Sleepy Hollow? It was the flycar/ALS rig out of the Med Center when I left. David just told me last night in fact that he saw the old 40M1 car from Westchester on the list. So did it go back to WEMS? if so good for them, if not and if it's still with TransCare is the car actually coming from Mt. Pleasant PD? The other thing is back in 2001/2002 when I manned it, it responded to the jail and all county facilities in the area. So is Empress going to the county jail a new thing or just new for me? And since we're on the subject of jails/prisons. Does WEMS still respond to Bedford and the other female facility there? And OVAC still do Sing-Sing. I can see DOC and the county putting service/transports out to bid but yonkers could be a mighty long run even if most of the calls are just jailitis
  20. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/08/23/kevin-collier-el-cajon-shooting_n_933958.html?1314110506&icid=maing-grid10%7Chtmlws-main-bb%7Cdl7%7Csec1_lnk3%7C88677 This video was pretty graphic and reminded me just what could happen to anyone in public safety going to a call. I'm sure that fire and ems were both dispatched to the fire too. the officer who appears to be shot in the neck was pretty chilling for me to watch. thanks you everyone out there in public safety for going out there and risking your lives every day joe Link to Incident Alert
  21. joe, can you get ahold of me off list so i can order a couple from you? as i'm not up that way i'm gonna have to give you extra so you can ship them to me. tomaso
  22. OK My Son David asked me to post this on here (btw pleasure to be the first one to post as well as the fact that I'd rather see this thing go to someone in emergency services instead of some regular guy that wouldn't really appreciate it) So anyway David has a CF-73 Toughbook that has just been gone over 100% by me. The hard drive was totally wiped clean using DOD protocol software, and it has a fresh install of XP Professional on it. 60gb hd, 512 ram, dvd/cd player/burner, brand new ac adapter and I forgot what else it has in it, ah and it does wifi and has the touch pad and touch screen. If anyone wants it they can either keep it with the xp pro or I would be happy to install windows 7 ultimate in it for ya. He wants $500.00 for it but if he knows it's someone from EMT Bravo and in EMS, etc, he'll probably be happy to sell it to ya. Just drop him an email at wwaunknownd@aol.com. In addition to the fresh install, I just updated all of the drivers and the bios to the latest versions too. Thanks Guys, Joe
  23. yes it works freat. I may put some extra ram in it just for ha ha's David wants to sell it, and to be honest, if I didn't have a brand new laptop plus my netbook and a desktop at home which I never use, I'd buy it. it's a very nice machine. i'd be willing to put microsoft office and some other stuff in it for whoever too. it's a good deal. The other thing is, my guy over at Verizon called me the other day and offered me a real sweet deal on a tablet which I definately don't need but if I do the deal with him, and buy it, my bill with them actually decreases (that's right-lol I pay less) by almost 50 bucks a month. I'm actually giving the ex my netbook because I hardly use it too. I did go and see Chris (verizon guy) and checked out the tablet. It was real nice and for the price he's giving it to me for, it's a steal. I just don't like the fact that it's almost the same as using my cell phone, just bigger. So I'm on the fence as to whether or not to do it. Oh and BTW, while we were talking he actually told me that several ambulance services (TransCare for one) actually have employee discount programs with them. TransCare actually saves an employee between 20-20% on their bill. He did let me know though that some discounts are just for certain packages. This guy is great. Yeah he's a good salesman, but he also gives me a ton of iinfo, plus I had a problem with my netbook after the in store return period ended and i brought the netbook in and not only did they give me a new netbook, but they gsve me a better one plus transfered all of my stuff from the old one to the new one for me. Then he had the tech guy talk to me and I actually went to PCW here because my son Sean was having issues with his computer. I wound up buying a cradle and redoing Sean's hard drive plus a few of his friends. They were all quoted like over 100.00 a pop for the repairs they needed or the data transfers and even though I told them I'd do it for free, they tossed me a few bucks so for about an hours work, the cradle paid for itself. Anyway too much info. But yeah the toughbook is a good deal. joe
