3. It Came from New York
A fire station in New York once owned the truck.
More from Pine-Richland Patch" Flaherty said the truck sustained some damage to the tower during a call. Rather than spend the money to get it fixed, the New York station decided to turn it over to Seagrave to be refurbished while the station bought a new engine, Flaherty said."
Is that what really happend?
If that is true................WOW

Shut them down
Easy to say, but hard to do in NYS.
You might be able force a consolidation vote at most.

They had a public meeting on the proposed budget and the EMS increase in OCTOBER!

Fire Districts can not bill by NYS state law, so now the taxpayers will foot the cost.

Just curious?
Mount Pleasant is a town in Westchester County, New York, in the United States. As of the 2010 census, the town population was 43,724.[2] The villages of Valhalla, Hawthorne, Thornwood ,
Pleasantville and part of Briarcliff Manor lie within the town,[a] as well as a number of hamlets.
The town has a total area of 32.7 square miles (85 km2), of which 27.7 square miles (72 km2) is land and 5.0 square miles (13 km2), or 15.26%, is water.
Taken from Wikipedia.
Is there a formula for how many BLS and ALS units a town this size needs?

"The decision to charge was triggered by the disparity between the 25 times Metro gave support to surrounding fire departments during the past year compared to the five times it received aid."
I think its awesome!!!
Start charging and it might bring around some change.
Hit the bean counters where it hurts!

Not knowing about the situation, If you wanted to dispatch and not go to 60.....
Wouldn't it be cheaper to hire civilian dispatchers and train them?
Seems to be a waste of a FF position when the departments are constantly runnning short on manpower.
Maybe its time for Greenville, Fairview and Harstdale merge dispatch since you respond together all the time.
My 2 cents

I respectfully disagree. Most people only know that the loud noise means that there's an emergency somewhere. You'd be shocked to learn how many people have no idea (and don't give a damn either) whether or not theirs is a volunteer or paid department.
You are right!!! But when they ask or complain, you can explain why it's going off and let them know were always looking for new bodies.
Be Safe.

So here is my 2 cents worth,
We have Open Houses, Volunteer Drives, a community holiday Party for the Kids and a Santa's wagon etc. every year.
Most of the communities in Westchester believe they are protected by carreer or paid fire houses.
One of the differences, "the Sirens".
If they hear the siren, The community knows their volunteer fire department is responding to some emergency!

Do they really need this utility rig
Every fire department should have a utility IMHO.
These days there is so much going on in the fire service that does not require a engine, ladder or rescue.
So if you can get a HD vehicle like this surplus. Why not? Great Job! thinking outside the box and saving tax payer $$$.
