  1. I'd agree with this. Hopefully people have some more useful information regarding what places are hiring and whether or not it is easy or hard place to get on rather than talking about tiers. Good luck.
  2. Think the guy in the orange hard hat kept running towards home?
  3. Been snowing very hard since noon here in Stamford, CT. Only accumulation is on the grass and that just started. Lots of calls for wires down and tranformer fires for the Port Chester/Rye Brook area.
  4. Agreed. Stay safe everyone. For those looking for a trusted weather facebook page, check out the Forensic Weather Consultants page. Pretty good. The guy will be on good morning america this morning.
  5. Rest in piece Chuckie. It was nice working along side you. You will be missed.
  6. You know, last week I said I wouldnt make an effort to watch the show unless I was switching through channels. Ill be making the effort tonight... .
  7. I dont think the fire related training he has would have anything to do with what choices he made. If you ask me, the skill or better judgment of driving a personal vehicle doesnt come with fire department related training.
  8. Forget the idea that Detriot is looking for people to pay to be firefighters... we should all be there (although we cannot be) to help this city; fire, police, financially, etc. (In an unrealistic solution... possibly) FEMA should send over several companies from surrounding cities, towns, states, etc to cover for the time, even Police. Or, instead of that $1 million fireboat that Union Fire Company got and had to return, the government should buy a couple rigs and send qualified FF's over to assist week to week. I understand... its your city and your brotherhood and you want your own guys back and maybe the government should help you financially, but the city is far beyond falling apart; take any help you can get.
  9. Good Luck, nice looking rig!
  10. Great video guys. Keep up the good work!
  11. Thats not why i said it... I said who cares cause someone said "re-kindle" shouldnt be used. Its a word..... use it if you want.
  12. Great pics and good work by all. If anyone has more pics or knows a site that put any of this fire up let me know (or us know). Thanks
  13. HAHAHA, Sorry but I cant do anything but laugh. This reminds me of ME working for my father. Only when I do something for my father would something stupid like this happen. Hopefully everyone was ok.
  14. But my question is... where do you start? I understand you can work after you graduate, but where that will give you experience? Working at Subway isnt considered Experience for the fields, I believe, we are talking about right? For the older experienced career level individuals in this forum, what type of entry level positions or fields would you recommend to those straight out of college AND out of Military that will provide them with the Experience now needed during the hiring process?
  15. Then where is one to start if they do not make the choice of joining the military? For the past 5 years I have seen this exact topic happen time and time again; and its not just FD or PD fields. As I do agree with "experience" counting on a hiring process, I also agree with giving someone (aka college grads) the opportunity to gain the experience who does not already have it. I agree a lot on what alsfirefighter said above and I believe some agencies should look into how they are hiring.
  16. Haha, very good.
  17. Forgive me if I repeat what was mentioned in earlier Posts. I work in the Security field in the City of Stamford, CT. For those topics related to tactical teams passing patients so that the team can proceed to eliminate the threat, I agree and believe that is the case for Stamford. Stamford's procedures (correct me if Im wrong) has a set group of possibly 5 or 6 tactical patrol vehicles that will all respond to the location and storm the building together during the event of an Active Shooter to quickly eliminate the threat. Creating safe zones (clearing areas) for EMS personnel can only be done with confirmation of the suspect(s) exact location and to a point where Law Enforcement have trapped the suspect(s) in one zone. That "one zone" can also be described as "barricaded", such as a Hostage situation. SWAT or SRT's now come in handy. As mentioned in the Columbine shooting timeline, SWAT are ALMOST useless when it comes to an Active Shooter where most of the damage has already been done and suspects eliminate themselves prior to SWAT arrival. Getting back to the main point of this thread (i think), it would be nice to see an advanced EMS individual on a tactical team but that advanced EMS individual might have to be part of law enforcement patrol, not EMS, so that this individual can be readily available if such incidents arise, no? My thoughts for EMS preparation on a incident such as an active shooter are that EMS should focus more on what mutual aid will be available and what type of EMS mutual aid. Also, the tools they have available on their rigs and mutual aid rigs that can create a large staging area; not necessarily worrying about entering a hot zone building to retrieve patients. When it is "all clear" retrieving patients will be no different than entering a building to retrieve a patient who is having a heart attack. And I agree 100% that there should be more EMS commanders available in Westchester county; there was a very good point stated that the duration of EMS incidents are a lot shorter than FD incidents and someone to soley command EMS in a timely manner is essential.
  18. Attached is the new Tanker 2 that (215, now 214) mentioned in the last post. It will go hand in hand with Squad 2 (also pictured) and added to the Tanker Task force. Some of you who listen in on the Greenwich FD radio feed may have heard it be dispatched for a couple alarms/fires in the past week but it is still out of service at Greenwich Fleet being put together; it was in the CAD "in service" by accident. It should be placed into service by the end of this week. As far as I know, there is no Rescue 3 that the Vollies have, only the utility. Rescue 5 is combination. Most of the time ran by the Vollies. Some DC's respond to the airport emergencies on their own without being dispatched but Greenwich is like the 8th alarm (exaggerating) to the Airport. I believe Round Hill's Tanker 6 is on level 3 alert for Airport but id have to double check. And to get back on topic... Congrats to the 2 new paid FF of Gwich! Hopefully they aren't giving you a hard time Jeff haha.
  19. Nice... Similar to Cos Cob's Squad 2. Like the light tower. coscobfire.org
