  1. Does anyone have the actual picture of this? I believe that one should just use common sense. How hard is it to make sure your head is not going to hit the traffic light? I believe that it is nice PR for the community and gets everyone into the holiday spirit. Again, just do it safely.

  4. After watching this weeks episode, i was applauding when Dawson kicked the drugged up guy out the back of the ambulance. How many times have you all wanted to do that?
  5. Yeah all of our radios are switched over to narrowbanding but still it sounds awful
  6. So our county (St. Lawrence County) has just switched over to narrowbanding this week and I have noticed that the quality of radio traffic has decreased dramatically. It sounds very distorted and many times while talking to dispatch or other units they can't hear what we are saying. Has anyone else had issues since they switched to narrowbanding?

  8. I received word from my chief up here in St. Lawrence County, and he said that "The NYS Office of Fire Prevention and Control, as part of the Statewide Mutual Aid and Mobilization plan, has asked each county to canvass for available resources for deployment to NYS and Long Island area." We are looking at sending an Engine down there within the next day or two and hope to be down there to help.

  11. Pshh, if it was only as easy as it was on the show Breaking Bad. Good job DEA getting that off the streets, its inevitable that our EMS would be seeing some of its users.
  12. EJ Noble Hospital in Gouverneur New York (St. Lawrence County) has been closed until further notice. "The reason for the lab's closure: 'Serious and persistent issues that are a threat to patient safety and health,' according to Department of Health Public Affairs Director Bill Schwarz." 13. Here is a video of a live burn demonstration of a mock dorm room that the Canton Fire Department put on for St. Lawrence University's Safety Fair Day. Volunteering in a town with 2 Universities, we get a lot of box alarms and students tend to think that when the fire alarm goes off, its not necessarily an emergency and can stay in their buildings. We wanted to show how quick a room and contents fire can occur in a dorm room. As well as the live burn, we had fogged out a large room and brought students through, showing them what it would be like in our "working" environment. We also taught them how to find a wall and look for a door or window to get out of the smoke filled environment to safety. The link is below: Enjoy http://www.stlawu.edu/video/safety.html

  17. Just wanna say, good job to everyone workin down at 60-control and all dispatch centers.. Have been monitoring 60 when I wasn't out on a call and you guys have been doin a great job during this storm.
  18. The picture of the guy in the driver seat holding on to the steering wheel is the best, especially because the tires under him are not on the ground.
  19. Congratulations to everyone on their accomplishments and welcome to the brotherhood!
  20. http://usnews.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2011/12/07/9272989-firefighters-let-home-burn-over-75-fee-again?lite This is tragic that incidents like this occur.
  21. I agree with BFD1054, I went skydiving with my friend as a graduation present to myself from high school and it was one of best experiences I have ever had. Freefalling for about a minute, then flying around on a chute for a couple more until we landed. If you do it, make sure you get the video with it, it was totally worth it. I feel bad for the wife of the 49 year old though, in another article I read, it stated that she "convinced her husband" to go skydiving that day. To live with that on your shoulders must be horrific. RIP

  23. So, I am studying abroad with my school in Rouen France, which is a little more than an hour north of Paris. Last week, I went to one of the 3 fire houses in Rouen and got a tour by one of the Officers there It was interesting seeing all of the similarities and differences between departments in the US and here in Europe. In this particular department, that I got a tour of, its a paid department with at least 30 firefighters working at once, including a Hazmat Team and Rope Rescue Specialists. They are on 24/48 hour shifts with dispatchers in the firehouse. Some of the pictures are attached. Their turnouts, which are significantly different. Their slip on their pants over their regular clothes, but do not have firefighting boots like the ones that at least I am used to. Part of their uniform is workboots, which they wear in fires. While I was there, there was an alarm, and putting on their gear did not look very efficient, keeping their boots on and slipping into the pants. Due to the nature of the call they will take the necessary equipment and leave others behind in other trailers. One of the trailers that they can attach to the trucks Our equivalent of a brush truck...the brush guards actually have holes to flow water while driving through the fire. Some of their apparatus including one of the Aerials which can go 30 meters up Small Aerial to go through the skinny french roads. Picture is of me and the Officer who showed me around. On site training facility...The property also has a private gym for firefighters, which include a basketball court, sauna and weights. The property also has a private soccer field. In the main building of the firehouse, there are bunk rooms, which are nicer than my dorm rooms that my university offers, including a cinema area with flat screen tv's, and a dining hall where they have paid chefs prepare food for you. Wanna see everyones reaction from this. Has anyone traveled internationally and have found similar departments like this?
  24. Love the attempted French..very close it would be, "pourquoi je n'ai vu rien des photos dans l'OP? Qu'est-ce que c'est l'OP?
