  1. fantastic quality, what camera/lens are you using in this?
  2. Ossining doesn't have 9 engines, 2 rescues, 3 truck, 2 utilities and 5 ambulances. They have Engines 96-101, Rescue 14, Ladder 41, Tower Ladder 42, 4 ambulance (2 of which are BLS and 2 of which are ALS). The boat is shared between Ossining Police and Fire. It's mostly used by the police since they very rarely dispatch fire for a call on it. They also only have 1 utility truck.
  3. I'm no fireman either but I know that in our department we respond to the scene with blue lights because a lot of the members keep their gear on the truck. We're also a large department. Even though you're a fireman responding to a call with a blue light, you still have to abide by all traffic laws. You're not considered an emergency vehicle.
  4. 1 of the comments left from someone on the flickr picture for this.
  5. Death Toll Climbs, Many Still Missing, Deadliest Tornado In Decades
  6. Just saw that it was confirmed as the highest rated EF-5 on the Fujita scale. Many more tornadoes out in Oklahoma today too. 1 of which killed about 4 people near El Reno, Oklahoma.
  7. Awesome video Mess. Nice to see an actual wetdown for a change!
  8. death toll up to 119 now and rising. No word on local red cross heading out there yet as some of them are still helping with the Alabama tornado. They're calling for the possibility of more over the next few days out there.
  9. If you have an android phone, you can download a free app called scanner radio. You can tune into police/fire/ems all over the world and locally you can tune into 60 Control, Westchester County Police, NYS Thruway Authority, White Plains Police, Fire, and EMS, Mamaroneck/Larchmont Police Fire and EMS and many many more. I recently traveled to Rhode Island for a couple days and was able to still listen to 60 Control clearly with no issues.
  10. As of right now it's not cancelled, it's being scaled back to a quarterly schedule. I think they said they're going to have 4 2 hour specials but the people from the show are free to shop around and are already doing so.
  11. In regards to the 1995 firefighters exam in Chicago Yahoo News
  12. Crime and Investigation network could pick it up since that's basically what they're all about. Although I think in order to reach the amount of people they were it needs to be on network television. This show provided a great public service and should remain on air regardless of what the ratings are.
  13. Verizon Wireless has had the same technology for years now too, they started when Nextel was at the peak of their popularity as a form of competition. They have several different push to talk phones.
  14. Send a message to SteveOFD or chiefofd41, they ought to know.
  15. Yea, I believe they're due in 2 years for a new truck.
  16. What equipment were you using for these (camera/lens(es)) Your quality is fantastic
  17. According to Wikipedia, It is the most populous suburb of Albany, New York, and is the third largest town in area in Albany County, occupying about 11% of the county. Several hamlets exist within the town. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 79,258. All the land outside the Village of Beverwyck (now Albany) was referred to as the "Colonie." The town of Colonie is north of Albany, New York, and is at the northern border of the county. Within the town of Colonie are two villages, one also known as Colonie and the other known as Menands. The population density and area have already been given by someone else.
  18. I agree with INIT. I think the siren, while it may be nice to have for the public, is a thing of the past. More and more departments are investing in pagers for all the members. In some places, your pager will go off before the tones do anyways so by the time the siren goes off, you're already responding.
  19. 42 looks so weird in those images now. It looks totally different with that paint job.

  21. I'm Jimmy I'm a freelance photographer and a fire enthusiast with many friends inside the Ossining Fire Dept and Ambulance Corp (O.V.A.C.). I recently graduated with a Bachelor's Degree from Western Connecticut State University. Recently I shot the Thornwood and Ossining Wetdowns. I find a lot of the posts on EMTBravo very interesting and love coming on this site. I don't post very much since I don't really know much but love reading what everyone's thoughts are on various subjects.
  22. There was an article online somewhere not long ago about a town in California doing something similar. I personally think that having someone know your every move while in a vehicle is a little creepy. I can understand from a crime point of view but not everyone is a criminal and likes having their every turn documented.
  23. I just went to court recently for a traffic ticket that was from 5+ years ago. I think it's ridiculous that they do this to people. I'm sorry but if you take over 5 years to decide on a court date for such a minor thing, it ought to be expired. Maybe then some of the depts won't be as backlogged as they already are.
  24. will have mine up soon, I'm backed up with editing. Hoping to catch up in the next week or 2.
