  1. This show has grown on me, and has gotten better since the first episode. I really like it. I also love how the Chief stands up for his men/women no matter what.

I agree, I didn't think it would have much hope but I find myself tuning in every episode to see what'll happen next.

  2. The West Hamilton Volunteer Fire Department, located near John F. Kennedy International Airport in Queens, New York, lost everything: two pumper trucks, two ambulances, and a brush truck.

The Hooversville Volunteer Fire Company, located outside of Pittsburgh, wondered what they could do to help after the storm devastated much of the New York City area. They found out about the West Hamilton department's loss and decided to donate a 1981 Mack pumper truck they'd been trying unsuccessfully to sell.

  3. Just heard Harrison and Yorktown went down. Yorktown arrived this morning.

Vails Gate Truck484 left around 6am and arrived at the EOC in Westbury around 8-8:30.

They have since been detailed to the Oceanside FD. Members have said that they have power and conditions aren't too bad.

That's where Ossining was, they just got back into town. They lost a few trucks and 2 houses. While down there, Ladder 41 worked 6 structure fires from what I was told by some members.

  4. “The Department of Defense mobile fueling stations are currently shut down for the public so that emergency personnel and first responder vehicles can utilize them. Members of the public should not go to these fueling stations. It is also important to remember that 28 million gallons of fuel are headed to this area right now and the lines at stations across the city should dissipate soon.”

  5. To protect yourself, Grosselfinger suggests that you get a receipt for your gas purchase. If you can't get a receipt, he says to use your smart phone to take a photo of the price and fuel amount display on the pump.

If you suspect price gouging, report it to:

    In Westchester: 914 995 2155

    In Rockland: 845 708 7600

  6. Hughonsville sent members, there's somewhat of a list in the Sandy thread if you want to pick them out of there.

Currently utility trucks are being loaded onto C-130's from Southern California and are en route to NY as soon as the apparent fog lifts out there.

  7. NYC/Westchester are slowly starting to get their mass transit systems back online. Metro North is running on an hourly schedule on the lower Harlem Line (North White Plains-Grand Central). Grand Central re-opened to the public at 2 pm, Newark and JFK each re-opened to flights on a limited basis at 7:00 am this morning and NYC subway is getting back into operation. The 7,B,C,E,G,Q trains are all still suspended but the F,J,A and M trains are running with limited service.

  8. NY Code - Section 209-E: Fire mobilization and mutual aid plan

    http://codes.lp.find...de/GMU/10/209-e

    NYS Mutual Aid Mobilization

Request gets made for specific items (i.e. swiftwater team, engines for fire standby, utilities with pumps for pumpouts, fire police teams etc...) from the areas affected, it goes through NYSDHS/OFPC/OEM, who then reaches out to specific areas for those items/manpower. The County Coordinator then reaches out to departments that typically have the manpower and equipment. It is then on the department to decide who is qualified based on their standards.

3 agencies from Dutchess Co went down earlier today, Amenia, Fairview and Hughsonville. This is in addition to Arlington and LaGrange the other day BEFORE the storm hit, with Swiftwater teams and gear.

Thanks for the info! I was curious to know how that worked.

  9. Yonkers firefighters battled 3 blazes, responded to 500 alarms; man killed in car accident

Firefighters responded to some 500 alarms around the city Monday, including three structure fires in the northeast part of the city.

Most were for downed wires, fallen trees or medical emergencies and came during the period of heaviest winds Monday night, Fire Commissioner Robert Sweeney said at a press briefing at the city Office of Emergency Management this morning.

  10. I have seen several Fire Depts. and EMS agencies deploying to NYC and Long Island from upstate to help out but I know there's been a lot of discussion about who can go due to training standards. For this sort of thing, are these departments being requested by FDNY or are they just voluntarily planning on showing up? If these people are just showing up un-announced, will they be turned away due to them not having the same training standards or will their help be accepted and be put to work?

p.s. Chief Munson, still on for that volleyball game? ;-)
