  1. The storm that hit in 1938 was a category 5. Sandy is barely a category 1. I think Hollie needs to check her information. That doesn't sound right at all!

Nope, it's official. This rivals that storms in terms of the pressure system.

Edit: this is supposed to be a separate reply but it keeps combining them into my response to you (Helicopper)

According to the latest models, the storm is speeding up, the 60 mph sustained winds that were projected aren't going to happen and landfall will hit very southern NJ around 5 pm. The strongest part of the storm will be between 5 pm and 8 pm.

  2. Gov. Andrew Cuomo said today that Metro-North and the New York City subways should prepare for an “orderly suspension” of service at 7 p.m. Sunday if Hurricane Sandy continues its expected assault on the East Coast.

Decisions on whether to suspend service will be made Sunday, he said in a press briefing this afternoon.

  3. PepsiCo will invest $243 million to renovate its Westchester County headquarters, a move that will create 1,250 construction jobs and retain the 1,100 employees who work for the food-and-beverage giant.

PepsiCo will renovate its 420,000 square feet of office space in Purchase, upgrade its technology and reduce its energy usage. The work is set to begin early next year. PepsiCo will relocate employees to nearby locations during the renovations, which could fill some of the empty office space along the Platinum Mile or elsewhere in Westchester.

  4. In this batch we have a giant inflatable fire truck slide for kids to go down, Tanker 10, Engine 119 and Engine 120 each of which are lined up to give kids free rides in the trucks. They would go up the block and then back down with lights and sirens. They also had 5 stations in which kids learned different fire safety techniques (i.e. stop drop and roll)
