I find it a bit troubling. Yes methadone, suboxone, subutex programs have pros and cons, however, they're end goal is to help make the patient a functioning member of society again. I.e. career counseling, ongoing therapy.....in a nutshell, changing the behavior that led someone to abuse. With these "drug rooms", all I see is a place where you can get high as a kite and not worry about overdose. They're not trying to change the behavior, they're saying it's acceptable.

I think JetBlue is a very innovative airline, and I think this program is a great concept. I've flown with them many times and I think they are fantastic. However, I strongly believe experience (especially in the aviation industry) is mandatory. I suppose I'm a little biased as well as a relative of mine is a retired Air Force pilot. I fly quite frequently and have always felt very comfortable believing retired military aviators were in control.

I was down in Broward County FL this past week and was dumbfounded between the differences in NY and FL. The Broward County Sheriff's Office provides not only law enforcement to the entire county, but also fire and EMS to the unincorporated parts of Broward County. Now I don't much about Fire/PD/EMS down in FL, but why can't NY have a similar system? Obviously there's laws, politics, unions etc.... everywhere, but what prevents NY from becoming unified?

Another argument for a complete consolidation of all Emergency Services (Fire and EMS [and eventually Police]) into 1 "Consolidated and Unified" Westchester County Department of Emergency Services Operation (Thus, as I have posted countless times on EMTBRAVO.net, you would be able to ensure ample coverage, elliminate redundancy and waste, and get rid of all of the buracratic political red tape.
I just would take a few prominent individuals within both the County and the State of New York to have the "balls" to say enough with the HOME RULE, enough with Union Interference, and enough with Local Municipality Political Holdings and Egos.

I don't disagree with you. I too work for both the privates and public. Do I think there should be one centralized radio system, absolutely. Do I think both my partner and I should be issued two portables like in NYC, absolutely.

The fly car has an onboard 60 Control radio, Empress radio, and Pelhem PD radio.
60 Control dispatches 38M1, 38M1 then uses Empress radio or phone to tell them their going on a job.
Their is a portable trunked radio to talk to 60, and a portable radio to talk to Empress.

LEWISBORO, New York (WABC) -- Fast-moving flames destroyed the Golden's Bridge Firehouse in Lewisboro, New York on Monday.
"The large fire took place on Waccabuc Road in Westchester County. The fire is believed to have started in the garage section of the firehouse where the trucks are stored. Authorities say the smoke detectors at the firehouse were hard wired and the investigation continues into what was being heard. The water tanker that firefighters tried to use to put out the flames was also empty, officials said. One firefighter was treated for minor smoke inhalation. The cause of the fire is not known at this time." -
I agree with x635. Addiction is horrible and dying is certainly not the answer. The 21 year old who shoots up most likely doesn't have the intentions of OD'ing. However, should he or she OD, having nasal narcan can get that person back under bls care while ALS is enroute. This was an excellent post, but too see such pathetic ignorance is disgusting.

I couldn't agree with you more ^^. He probably said "Thank you Jesus" 100 times on that stupid wire, in my opinion the guy is a horrible father, risking his life like this for 15 minutes of fame.

Check out westchester community college. They usually run summer EMT classes. Hope you find one!

The symbolism of the bill is huge. NY is the first state to vote on such a ban regarding assault weapons. Additionally the law extends Kendra's law until 2017 which is crucial in helping the mentally ill. If gun owners are so responsible they shouldn't have any problems with registering an assault weapon. Yes, criminals will still do the crime, but people from all respected political parties are saying we need to act to prevent senseless violence. This is that first step in acting. Do I agree with every earmark in the bill, no, but it seems like an excellent starting point as I said. I don't see any other politicians stepping up to the plate to take on this issue, especially Mr. Ball, but yes we MUST fix our mental health system, much more than just extending Kendra's law. But, I think its crazy that someone could simply buy an assault weapon online before this bill passed. But really, most of this stuff is common sense, and I'm very proud that NY stood up to the plate first to take on this issue.

Found this info on the DES site. I know they responded up to my neck of the woods 6-7 years ago. At the time I had just started my career and never went to the actual meeting due to time constraints.
Hope the link below helps.
