  1. Maybe someone in Law Enforcement can help me as I haven't been able to find a straight answer. When it comes to CDL requirements/ commercial vehicle or even personal vehicle. I was looking at the DOT flow chart for determining the requirement of a CDL along with the NYS DMV requirement. I was told verbally by commercial drivers and grapevine talk that towing any trailer with more than a 10,000 GVWR I would need a CDL-A in NYS. I was looking at the DOT flow chart, and the NYS DMV CDL requirement page and if I am reading this correctly it is saying I do not require a CDL-A for what I am looking to do. A vehicle with a Gross Combination of 26,000lbs or less does not require a CDL? So if I am in a pick up that weighs 8,800 have a trailer of 3,350lbs, and a machine that weighs 11,800.. my Gross Combo Weight is 23,950lbs. So if thats the case, do you really not require a CDL-A in NY to tow a combo weight of less than 26,000 no matter how much the trailer is rated too? I know this is a weird question to be asking on here, but want to do things right and have my ducks in a row. Thanks for any help!
  2. It did! Thanks!!
  3. At no point did I make that statement, was just adding to the conversation...
  4. Interesting... when I was a senior in High School... 18YO and FF-I... our neighboring department had a 4 alarm fire we relocated to.. My principal asked me what I was still doing in class and not heading to the FD LOL! It's a fine line... where the battle is never really won as you become "that guy" who picks and chooses his calls.. School comes first as it leads us to our careers and is our education, so yes sleeping through the night and missing the commercial alarm happens.. as for fires or serious incidents.. I never could justify loss of life over being tired once in math class.. neither could my teachers... just my two cents.
  5. Could it not fall under the same principal that you cannot obtain an Aviation Class 1 medical if you have diabetes? Not taking sides here, just interesting how one industry varies from another yet both are responsible for human life at the end of the day...
  6. I think its got a psychological effect... "Expedite", "Have them step it up" maybe gives the crew on scene some "comfort" that the enroute unit(s) know they have an uncomfortable or more serious situation on their hands... whether those enroute maintain the same speed or not... that's also a different story. In my head at least I sort of see it as emergency services communicating with each other through a different "lingo" to get their views of the situation across without using language that may further upset patients or civilians around the incident.
  7. An E-Series or a Transit?
  8. Neither are dually.. I think the chassis cab market will prevail but that's just my .02
  9. I'd like to donate all of my DJ/ Event equipment to any FD/VAC/PD in the county, state you name it! It's everything to get going for any department event or holiday party. Please PM me and I would be more then happy to send a list of all the equipment details and answer any questions you or your department might have. Thank You.

  12. With Tier 4 Emissions compliance in full effect across the board on diesel equipment, has the EPA actually released this "Waiver" that would allow the removal/ delay of Regeneration and Derate equipment? I know all chassis cab for ambulances whether it's Powerstroke Cummins or Duramax all are now fitted with a DPF and DEF system. I'm trying to find proof or Emergency Services advocacy that proves the EPA is either on it's way to waiver the use of these emissions systems or already has and is just not common knowledge. Forgive any ignorance... looking to further educate myself on the emissions front as far as emergency apparatus goes... specifically on the ambulance front. Thanks! - Voltage

  21. The steak dinner comment was for whoever "takes out" this nutcase who doesn't even deserve a place to sleep inside at night. I was in NO WAY making a reference towards this sick f#%@k stating he deserves one. Sorry for any confusion I thought I was making myself clear in my serious reference along with the article the way I was interpretting it was if just about every inmate in that prison is out there to get this derranged nut the minute they can lay their hands on him.
  22. Whoever gets to him first should get a steak dinner: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/07/22/james-holmes-aurora-shooting-death-threats_n_1693336.html?utm_hp_ref=mostpopular

  24. thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery to the officer!
  25. From what I've read and heard now I guess Detroit has decided to leave supplying apparatus with engines due to the zero emissions requirements. I guess that just leaves Cummins and CAT but I haven't heard anything good about CAT's being thrown in emergency vehicles, supposedly they run into problems as they were built more for highway trucking than stop and go, pumping etc...
