It's amazing the lengths this family is going in this case. The lawyer is even more amazing though, I really wonder if he's coming up with what he's saying or having some pre-law freshman write his press releases for him. "the officers could have served the warrants the next day but created danger when they rushed inside (the apartment)", Really? what are they doing, playing tag, "Home Base!, you can't get me, na nana nana na". Also, he was on PCP at the time of the shooting, but he'd taken it before, so it was hard to tell if the level of PCP in his system was significant? So PCPs like alcohol now? You just need to be able to handle your PCP and you're good? And then to say it doesn't matter if he was on PCP, it just matters if he acted aggressively? Well, I'd say lunging at police officers with a knife is acting aggressively, but, that's just me. Hopefully the Grand Jury finds the shooting justified next week, and these 4 officers can go on with their lives, at least until the civil suit we all know is coming gets filed.

On the NYPD psych exam, what do they ask about previous psychological history, mainly seeking professional help? Is it through out your entire life, within a certain time period? Also, is it true that if you answer yes to having seen a psychiatrist, you're pretty much screwed in terms of getting hired? I've been hearing a lot about this exam lately and between what I'm hearing about the psych test as well as some of the things I hear about the NYPD in general such as the new "officers can't wear anything with the NYPD logo off duty" policy is starting to turn me off a little bit to taking the NYPD exam, which has basically been my first choice department since I decided I wanted to be a cop.

While most FD's in OC don't run EMS, they all run into it, so being prepared is the name of the game. #1 cause of LODD in the US are medically related, so we need to be able to protect ourselves. As for departments that don't run automatically to EMS calls, neither of mine do, they have been dispatched when EMS is delayed or not immediately available. Just like the fire and rescue equipment on the truck, if you aren't properly trained to use it, don't.

As for the apparatus designators, I feel it is better than what we currently have, but still not great. By far the best thing out of this whole mess is the apparatus standards, they could still use some tweaks but are a great start.

I understand that, but there are departments do not do run medicals at all, ever. My local department runs three engines, a ladder, a rescue, a brush truck, a tanker, and a utility that would not fit into any category based on the current proposed system, and possibly has 10 emts at the maximum out of approximately 150 members. Each one of these kits would cost approximately $450, so how would you justify to the tax payers spending $3,150 on equipment for "just in case" that only 10 members can use and to certify more people to use it would cost $750 a person and take 6 months, and even then they could fail. I'm not saying that there shouldn't be any medical equipment on a rig, but I would think that a cpr mask would be more cost effective if the entire department can use it rather than just 10 people.

I was wondering what your opinions were on the currently proposed renumbering plan is. I'm not familiar with fire department standards, but I was surprised to see such a specific list of required equipment for each type of apparatus. It also surprised me to see almost all apparatus would be required to carry ems equipment, including oral airways, nasal airways, and O2, which I always thought required a minimum certification of EMT-B in NY, since a large chunk of departments in the county don't run medical calls or have EMTs. Is this an attempt to get more departments to run medical calls to counter the dwindling response from volunteer ems?

The volleys are upset because it holds them to a standard. No more driver alone smoke and mirror show. This necessary proactive legislation that needs to pass in order to improve patient care, patient outcomes, customer service, and more generally preparedness. I hope this passes.....this sort of stuff is landmark legislation for the tri state region.

Now if only New York lawmakers had the stones to draft, pass and sign similar legislation into law....

New York already does require a minimum of 1 EMT on an ambulance, including volunteer corps, and does do inspections of all ambulances statewide. All agencies that are New York State certified are held to state standards no matter if they are career or volunteer.

The last time I was on their website they actually had the unit type of that rig listed as TAC, so I'm gonna go with yes.

Hello all, i'm new to this board. See that the first topic is blue lights, guess that was to be expected lol. Going to try and make this simple. For background, I live in NJ and attend college in upstate NY. I am a FF in NJ and currently going through the lovely process of becoming interior certified in NY, ugh! I just signed up for an EMT-B course to take next semester in UPSTATE NEW YORK. It will be completed by May 17th of next year. I know with the current system it is not difficult to get a NY emt cert to transfer to NJ, but i have been hearing a lot of my jersey emt friends talking about the upcoming "emt course change to 250 hours". Are the jersey standards changing? What is the time frame for this change, and can i expect to get NJ reciprocity if i have my NY class completed by the above listed date?

I've been looking into doing the same since I already have my NY certificate and live only a few miles from NJ and have not heard anything about a change in the NJ curriculum. Currently, NJ uses the National curriculum, which NY actually does a slightly more advanced course, including a full cpr course within the class. The date on your NY card won't matter, you'll be subject to the NJ curriculum that's in place when you apply for reciprocity. If they do lengthen the course to 250 hours in NJ, they'll likely make you go to the classes in their EMT course that cover whatever material they add to the course, but I think it's highly unlikely that they would make you go through their entire EMT course if you have an NY certificate.

I do have a question though, does Yonkers have a SWAT Team per se, and if they do, would they utilize this rig?

Yonkers ESU is the same as NYPD ESU. They do rescue work and tactical operations.

Seriously, 156 click's, (view's) nobody can shed light on a "ball-park" figure of what starting pay is with this organization in Yonkers?

Last I heard, In Orange County it was $12 an hour for EMTs and $19 an hour for medics, so I would assume somewhere around there.

Not sure. I know that it is the cascade unit for the town, but I believe that it's the company's only piece of apparatus. Amogerone may be getting a new one or getting rid of it. It is also a possibility that Amogerone may be closing it's doors, as their selling their rig, but don't take my word for it, I don't really know.

According to their website, they are replacing it with a combination walk in/walk around international rig at the end of this year.

For some reason, they still operate on Orange County radio systems as regional too. I've seen them show up in a care 1 rig, with one crew member wearing a regional ems uniform and one member wearing a HVP uniform.

If a scanner could override or de-encypt, would that be legal?

I'm pretty sure that it's illegal to intercept encrypted transmissions.

I was under the impression that if an EMT certification lapses you have a year to take a refresher. Is this still the case? I heard today that NYS changed the policy and there is now no limit on when you can refresh if your certification lapses...

Under the current NYS protocol, you can refresh at what ever the highest certification you had was no matter how long you've been expired.

Description Of Incident: Driver and the pedestrian were in two separate cars when one made a maneuver that upset the other driver. Both vehicles stopped and the drivers had a verbal argument. The one driver got back into his vehicle to and attempted to avoid a physical altercation, and accidentally backed over the other driver who was trying to take down his license plate. The man who was struck was air lifted to Westchester Medical Center and the driver of the vehicle was taken to St. Anthony's community hospital for evaluation.

Description Of Incident: 1 car down an approx. 15 foot embankment to the edge of a large stream. Both patients self extricated and the driver left the scene heading down the stream. Passenger was brought up the embankment by WVAC 209 and WFD and transported to Good Sam by WVAC 202 and Regional 824. GLFD's rescue was requested for their ropes and water rescue capabilities to assist in searching the stream for the driver. Driver located further down the stream bank approx. 60 to 90 minutes later with minor injuries. Transported to Good Sam by WVAC 203 and Regional 848. WVAC 201 brought to the scene and assisted WVAC 205, 209, and Regional Car 2 with rehab for the water rescue units.
