  1. How can they be happy if non are in service yet?
  2. And remember, If you know or met a Veterian... Please shake their hand and say Thank You!
  3. Captain, I agree with you. Look at the 3000 gal water tender (Tanker) and i'm sure the weight is closs if not a little more. I can't stress enough how dangerous free wheeling is. And again you are correct as most operators do leave it in drive and never use the gears as intended. Paper pushers have all the answers. Politicaly incorrect!
  4. If the brakes did get hot enough to loose stopping power, then maybe.. the dept should look into engineer training again on steep hills. I would assume it's equipt with a Jake brake and being all wheel drive over size brakes. Unless it was spec wrong it's not the trucks fault the brakes got hot.
  5. Fantastic ad! It's about time!
  6. Any updates on the International Ambulance's?
  7. I visited New York a few years ago. Went to Truck4 and Engine 54 Bat 9 house. Great guys to share stories with and NO problem with t-shirts and they had a wonderful blanket for sale. Talked wth guys from Engine 7 on the street and many other stations. No problem at all as i felt welcome at every house. So as far as patches and decals you should have zero issues. Have fun!
  8. Thats awesome. What a great find and even better it was your dads.
  9. It use to be if you where smart and strong enough you would pass and move to the next step. Now.. who has the best attorny when I'M not passing. Who gives a crap what color or sex you are, just pass the same test as everyone else and boom your a Fire Fighter. So many know all you have to do is pull out the raciest card and i will have a job. I remember many years ago a dept in Los Angeles was testing with 35ft ladders. Raising against the building and was being filmed. Well... a certen female recrut couldn't do it and sued. Happiness is!!!!!
  10. LAFD chose KME for a few reasons. The main reason low bid and like FDNY KME will build to LAFD specs. Seagrave would like the contract but complains how LAFD and FDNY are to picky with what they spec. Now for those who will say otherwise, this came from a sales rep at Seagrave in LA. As for the amount of KME's in service in the LA and surrounding areas. Its more in the neighborhood of 400. Remember, LaCo Fire has over 200 alone. The service center was opened after LaCo told KME, if you want to keep us you need to build a service center here with the amount of issues we have with your'e product. Also, a LaCo employee retired and went to work for KME. So the sales began. Even though LaCo is satisfied with KME they are still having issues with new deliveries. Such as.. rear ends dog leg to the right or left, wiring to name a few. But then again, i'm sure any builder will have the same issues. With the new NFPA requirements that includes much more electronics you are going to have new and comprehensive problems. Bottom line, as long as the rig performs and everyone goes home. As for Boston,Philly,LAFD, LaCo, Maui and FDNY low bid long waranty with a multi year contact for add ons. Or, a dept could be like Orlando FL and have the union have in its contract that the city will only purshase Sutphens. No bidding at all.
  11. Sorry guys but... The KME's for LAFD and LaCo fire are doing pretty good.
  12. KME has come along way with quality. Here in Los Angeles LAFD has ordered 18 additional engines and are having faverable feed back from the field. Yes you still have issues but who doesn't. We have a huge problem with pot holes through out LA. We may not have snow but we do have major wild fires. So off road up and down canyons twisting the bodys puts up a good test. Like FDNY we where surprised when LAFD bought KME since we are a Seagrave and Pierce dept. Seagrave has many issues now so we will see how long they stick around. Yes money is always the bottom line but quility customer care is important also. The cab has more room and they turn great. Yes the older Keep Machanics Employed had huge issues but the newer ones seem to be holding there own. LaCo Fire has over 200 KME's and are pleased with what they have now. A nice change from 1996 from nothing but problems to now. FDNY good luck and i hope they keep you guys safe.As for the wheels.. not sure whats going on their. Some of the new towers have red when others do not. The Rescues and Haz Mat have Alcoas also.
  13. At one time, all of Syracuse engine co's ran Telesqurts. Looks like they are ended in that direction again.
  14. If anything they would of had a faster response time since they had a full crew. Congratulations and be safe!
  15. Thank you for the info. Be safe!
  16. I agree that housing inside will help. Doesn't some FDNY ambulances have a station? I read that FDNY is building a new multi use station for there ambulance division. I forgot what bourough.
  17. Yes, they are in quarters. But.. still run 24 hour shifts. A few run 20-25 runs a shift. LAFD in some stations like St 9 runs 3 ambulances 9, 209, 909. 9,209 are ALS while 909 is BLS. While FDNY and LAFD and LaCO fire are busy. I think FDNY is more abused with weather and other conditions. All in all, what ever works use it!
  18. Funny, Here in LaCo fire dept is removing all Ford Paramedic squads and buying Dodge. Same with LAFD replacing all Ambulances with Dodge.
  19. I agree and can't say enough about Wounded Warrior Project. Please join and let these Heros know they are not forgotten. A BIG THANK YOU to all past and presant. I myself, is a member of WWP.
  20. Does she fit in the station? Looks tall!
  21. La County fire has over 200 KME's. La City fire is new to KME with 23 already in service with 11 more on order. KME is also trying for LAFD Tiller order. Looking forward to see how FDNY rigs will look.
  22. It's been fun watching the build with you. Thank you for keeping us informed and the pictures. I know it has been a long road and for you. And to take the extra time to explain the process of the build again thanks!!
  23. Well, The vision SLR are not very bright. Should of stayed with Whelen. Thanks for the answer though.
