SCCEMS is located at Jennersville Regional Hospital in West Grove, Chester County, PA. Their response area is the largest and most rural in the county, so their chase cars are usually stationed at various fire companies in their district, so it was pretty rare to get a shot of one of them at the hospital AND outside.
The newest unit, a 2013 Explorer, is behind 94 "A," but I couldn't get a good, unobstructed, shot.

    I. Love. Texas.
If this happened in New England (New Hampshire probably notwithstanding) the father would have been charged with Capital Felony Murder, Ben and Jerry's would have come out with a new flavor of ice cream to benefit the family of the scumbag rapist and Al Sharpton would be claiming it was a racist atrocity perpetrated against an innocent, defenseless minority.
In Texas, the dirtbag gets dead, the father gets to continue taking care of his family and trying to piece together the lost innocence of his child with the support of a caring community that takes care of its own.

I agree. Especially in the instance of a fire like this one. You have multiple floors and apartments to check and if the first arriving units are tied up assessing patients and not able to make entry to look for trapped people. If you are able to have both respond on the alarm assignment this allows the initial fire units to enter and search for trapped individuals while EMS is able to asses those that are out of the building. At a big scene I think it is best to keep everyone operating in the area they responded with, fire with fire, EMS with EMS, and then once the situation has been sized up begin to fill in where necessary. I am not saying that EMT-B EMT-P FFs are not capable of delivering care, but at a working fire such as this one I think it is more important for them to be able to make initial entry upon arrival rather than spend valuable time that they could be looking for trapped people caring for those already out that responding EMS could handle.

I didn't really get the point of this article from the Herald. I was going to say 120 hours but the post above has it correct. I won't characterize getting your certification in MA as this easy. I worked out of state for five years and was unable become certified at the level I was at in another state because of MA regulations and couldn't go down a provider level. I let my certs go and a few years later took my EMT-B in MA to become certified again. I wonder if this article is referring to the EMS boot camps that have sprung up down here. I know they claim to get you out the door in a very short period. The program I took my EMT-B was very strict and told me it was from the state that you couldn't miss any classes and if you did you had to make it up but it had to be the exact same class. Thanks to the original poster for finding this!

  13. Sailr322 liked a post in a topic by CFI609D in Ex-Irvington firefighter wants to create 2nd fire company in village
Nick didn't "bail out": he resigned from the "company" which is actually a social services and benevolent organization. At the time he was told by the village that he could do so. After seeking additional legal opinions, however, the village later rescinded its original opinion and he was told that he would have to rejoin the social services organization to remain an active firefighter, and that is where the dispute took off. Nick has been afforded the opportunity to rejoin the "company" but Nick has refused to do so as it against his principles and he sees the company as a source of much of the hostility directed towards him.
Nick is an outstanding firefighter and has been an incredible asset to the community. He is well known to all of the instructors in our region thanks to his dedication to training and mastering all aspects of firefighting. And yes, he is also very principled and refuses to compromise those principles. While I do not always agree with Nick, I have enormous respect for him. It is a shame that this has transpired and I hope that resolution will take place.
This law cited requiring members of a village fire department to also be members of a non-firematic social services organization calling thmselves a fire company is most unfortunate, and it is archaic. 150 years ago there were legit reasons to force firefighters be members of a company. But in this day and age where you have a municipal fire department and the company is no more than a social services entity (as is the case in Irvington, where the company has ZERO fire or emergency services role), this needs to be changed. I hope that perhaps this situation will prove to be a positive catalyst and that it will push lawmakers to reexamine obsolete and meaningless laws like this one.

If anyone knows anything, post it up here. The Iona Island FD will fade off to a few pictures and an old fire station if we dont try to collect/preserve the history of it. For such an important facility that produced most of the ammo for the Atlantic US and British naval fleets in WWII, that would be a shame to loose it.
