  1. Personally, I don't think anyone should ride for free. Even though my father has been a detective down there for 30 + years, it's not right that they keep raising it for the public, but let them ride for free. I'd say let them on for a reduced price, or make their own card that FDNY or NYPD has to pay for monthly or yearly. Even though its a train, it's still public transportation, and can't find that without a fee, and i think that should go for all.

Speaking of trains, bridges also let PD and FD go through the tolls for free. Now, I could see why if there is a jumper or a emergency in the middle of the bridge( that goes for trains too, if theres a stabbing or a fire on the train, then it'd be fair), but to go someplace you really don't need to go to, or do, theres a fee, and it should be paid for all who use it, no matter who you are.

    Just my opinion.

  2. Indeed :P Go to your profile, and go to the bottom left, you will see multiple tabs there, there will be one that says "Likes" click that one, and then you will be brought to the ones you have given out. If you don't want that, go to the top right (Of that box) and it will say, "Given & Recieved" press recieved, and that will take you to all of your posts, and it will show the person who liked it on the bottom right of the post.

    Hope that helped..

  3. Not to bug you with more repuatation box posts again, but it used to say "excellent" or "building a reputation" i liked that feature on our profiles. I was just thinking new to the site members may view our profiles, and see a green box with a number in it, it always used to have writing in it, so I am not sure if its a mistake or something left out.

Thanks for all of your work to the site, it looks great.

  4. Has there been an update on the LI fire yet?

Homes in Riverhead and Manorville have been destroyed by raging brush fires that have consumed at least 2,000 acres of woods and vegetation as strong winds blew flames, igniting grass and forest in tinderbox-like conditions, Suffolk officials said.

As of 7:30 p.m., winds were diminishing and only the eastern front of the fire was still out of control, after the inferno burned swathes of Manorville, Ridge, Riverhead and several other communities in what is considered a single inferno, said County Executive Steve Bellone and rescue officials.

At a news conference from the Command Post at Ridge, Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone said "It is not yet under control" and that departments from Nassau and Suffolk were still "hard at work."

He said the fire is moving in a southeast direction. He said local evacuations have been called for. "There are scattered homes throughout the area that have been evacuated," he said.

He said the county would be going door to door if additional evacations were necessary. He said two residences had been completeley destroyed and one commercial building had been destroyed; 236 homes were without power.

Several hundred acres were still burning, Ridge fire officials said at the news conference.

Chief Craig Robinson of the Plainview Fire Department said nightfall is becoming a concern, as it will make the job a lot more challenging. About 50 departments were battling small blazes and darkness, he said

  5. Somers operated at a large one yesterday too.. Was about 3-5 acres, with treetops on fire too. They made a fire line through out the process, they remained o/s until about 19:30 approx. Was a job well done by all who were involved (especially the first IC before chief took over, that was a very well done job) anyways, Continental Village just got toned out- very dry land where it was reported- there is a red flag warning out and remaining out... Hope all remain safe..

  6. News 12 knows about as much as we do, we can collect as much info as they can. Only the police and possibly the FD that was O/S really knows the details on what happened, just reminding you that News 12 may not always be reliable. This was a livery cab the driver was seen pacing outside of the scene, while the passenger was trapped inside. She(the victim) was not the driver of the vehicle at the time of the crash.

  7. Anyone able to post in the shout box, im not.

. No after my hotline message I tried to post a shout about a working fire and just clicked the shout button and does nothing. Hope it's fixed soon I like that feature.. Anyways yes the speed is great today and the edit option is *always* there now instead of sometimes not, etc. Looking better and better Seth.

  8. Usually, after an upgrade, the posting levels drop as everyone learns how to use the new software. I was concerned about the posting stats because I was making sure there was no bug.

The reason for the upgrade was because the old software was at it's "end of life", meaning it is obsolete and is no longer supported. I held out as long as possible. The new software is also required to keep up with modern internet technology.

Let me ask this though....if you don't know the reason for the upgrade, how can you say it was uneccesary?

I'm sorry to hear that. I've heard from many that the site is running faster and loading faster, and my server stats seem to support that. I am still making ajustments to increase the performance.

Not happening. Sometimes, change is inevitable. Just like the firefighters who got upset that the motorized engine replaced the horses.

Exactly what I was thinking, although that point may be true on some cases, others it's not. My computers run great on the site, not a change in loading time or anything. Your points in this posts are very well said, and I am glad that it's " up to date" instead of an old, out of date, half working site, like some I have seen.

I personally like the new look, it could use some little changes, but all in all I have no complaints.

Good luck in the future with it.

  9. photo-1.jpg

The above photo I found interesting when I saw it in the ladder, it has the engine right to the right of the seat, and then a small seat "packed" in there... I have never seen that before in a ladder. Very interesting...

  10. I was invited to visit Elmsford FD the other day, thought i'd share some photos that I got, not too many.. I didn't bring one of my Nikon's, so these photos are based off of my IPhone, which can sometime take good pictures, and sometimes not...

This (larger) picture is Elmsford FD's TL 21- A 1993 Pierce Arrow.
