  2. It's NBC. Remember that awful show "Trauma" that was supposed to show how awesome EMS is? It was god awful and not even close to being accurate in any way. Therefore, I don't expect much from this show. By the way, didn't the Mayor of Chicago just privatize the ambulance service for the city? I believe a lot of Medics and EMT's were laid off or took jobs with the new private for profit company at substantial pay cuts. All the CFD ambulances are now decommissioned and sitting in a city yard. Funny how that never made the national news.

  3. It's a media feeding frenzy. They already have him convicted and plastered his face everywhere. So, even if these are false charges it will be very difficult for him to work again. It's a harsh reminder to us to remember to cover our asses. Ask for a LEO to ride in the back, call for a female crew (I've done both of these things with certain Pt's), and document document document. You never know what's going to come back and bite you in the a**. Now that this is all over the news there is a possibility of some less than honest people out there that see $$$ and may attempt to make accusations. That being said, I really hope that none of this is true. Stay safe and smart out there everyone.

  4. I didn't read anyone's replies on purpose so forgive me if I repeat what others have said. I see a 3 family balloon frame possibly occupied, doesn't appear to have much an exposure problem except maybe on the C side (cant tell what's on the rear from the picture). Looks remodeled so who knows if there are fire stops between floors, what the floor plan is like, or if anything at all is code. Possibly a stairwell on the D side, power lines present a problem, might be able to get an aerial to the roof from the AD or AB corner (either way ground ladders are a must). Kitchens in these homes are usually in the rear, but which floor? Could be as many as 4 different kitchens here including the basement. As the first due Truck I'm sure my boss would have us check the basement first and work our way up.

  6. Is someone going to have to die before anything is done about this? What if there were people hanging out of the windows or trapped inside when they arrived? This guy is a clown and should be removed from his position. I live in North Stamford and I most certainly don't feel safe with these guys "protecting" me. They should just be disbanded. A city the size of Stamford should have a fully staffed professional career department.

  7. Excellent topic! I've picked up a few things and hope this is a decent contribution.

One of my officers told me to keep up on tying knots. It's an easily forgettable skill and you don't want to be the guy fumbling around trying to tie a knot when it needs to get done immediately. I keep a 10' piece of rope with my gear and practice with gloves on and eyes closed.

  8. I see this as a sad day for unionized labor. Potentially losing union jobs to a non union shop is a severe blow to the IAEP and their efforts to unionize TC. Why wasn't the union more active in this on the national level? Who at TC is voting yes for the union now? The long term benefits fort the employees would certainly work out in their favor, but the timing and propaganda really make the union look bad.

With all that's been said, what matters most is the person on the other end of the line calling for help. I hope that the service to them will not suffer.

  9. I think the entire system nationwide has multiple problems. Volunteer or paid EMS have their own unique problems Could any of you immagine a commercial for profit company running the fire or police service? Why is EMS different? It shouldn't be. People have to work more these days just to get by, and the state comes up with new requirements for EMS providers all the time that take time and cost more. I don't have the answer, but complaining about the Volunteers doesn't help. I have had the pleasure of working with some VAC's and I applaud them. They spend a lot of their free time away from their families going to calls, training, etc..

  10. That's right. EMTs should be calling for help lifting. But why are the medics complaining? ALS means "Ain't Lifting S**t!!"

I hope your not serious. I happen to be a Medic and always do the bulk of the lifting, sometimes while carrying my gear on my back. If you think you have a problem with a Medic then speak to them directly.

It's too bad the healthcare industry is focused on treating problems and not prevention.
