  5. Ideally, yes and I agree. On the same token, volunteers are taking time away from their personal lives and families, something that's increasingly difficult to do. Add on top of the fact these facilities give nothing back to the community, yet tax their resources immensely. How's the guy who's lived in that district for 50 years and is a homeowner who's having a legit heart attack going to feel when he has to wait for a mutual aid ambulance because this one facility has called for the 5th time today for a stubbed toe because the facility nurse called in sick or is on vacation so their protocol is to call EMS instead of covering her shift. That's not fair to anyone.
  6. Is it going to be quint? Looks like there is a crosslay, some discharges, and a deck gun not mounted on the ladder. Interesting, I'd love to know more. BNechis?
  7. Happy Thanksgiving!
  8. Did I miss something, or did Bedford Village not get called to the fire in Pound Ridge last night? If not, why? They border Pound Ridge.
  9. The comments on that video at the link above at that website are hilarious.
  10. Any truth that only one vendor, Ferrara, bid on this contract? If that's true, it looks very close to a Seagrave spec, surprised they didn't bid on it.
  11. They can't even get funding to properly staff the radio room for the workload they have, how are they going to staff the Fieldcom?
  12. Saw this posted on Facebook. What are they replacing it with?
  13. They won't send volunteers to an all career department, but they will go to an all-career department and then have the volunteers cover for career staff? That's hypocrisy.
  14. If Larchmont is a combination department, why didn't they fill out the engine with a career firefighter driving and a volunteer crew, leaving the remainder of the career guys to keep Larchmont apparatus in service?
  15. Here's a photo of the structure. It was a hike to get in. Figure in the need to bring in water plus daytime manpower. http://www.lewisboroledger.com/17406/lake-street-house-fire-draws-six-fire-departments/
  16. At what temperature does an SCBA mask begin to melt? That seems dangerous.
  17. Who staffs and operates the DES METU unit?
  18. Verplank is getting a new rescue truck. Does anyone have anymore details?

  20. Who in Westchester has foam units? White Plains operated/housed the County's Foam Trailer last I knew? And does Mount Vernon still have that Airport rig they planned to use as a foam unit?

  22. I really don't see anybody "bashing" but you. What exactly are you defining as "bashing"? You're throwing irrelevant accusations around to drag this topic down, and people give you a response to those accusations and false impressions you seem to have and all you have is defensive remarks. Please reply to my question above.........How do you propose we "train and get along" if, as evidenced above, people like you don't even want to listen? I'm interested to hear what solutions you propose to the problems you perceive and accusations you make.
  23. You seem hell bent on promoting the "career vs. volunteer" rhetoric in many of the posts you make. It's almost like you feel threatened somehow by something. There was some good discussion on this thread until you decided to drag it down a path irrelevant to this topic. How are the unions working against volunteers? Is your agency, and the volunteer fire service, as flawless as you say it is? It's perfect and there is nothing to improve on? How do you propose we "train and get along"? I'm interested to hear what solutions you propose to the problems you perceive and accusations you make. .
